Or, you could have knocked over my substantial self with a feather.
You may have noticed two new buttons on my side bar. Last week, at a point where I was tired and crabby and the smaller portion was behaving like a toad, I received an email which moved me to tears.
The email came from the talented and lovely Kim of, among many other things, Sunday Selections fame. She told me that she had nominated this blog for the Best Australian Blogs of 2012 Competition. Oh. Do you mean that? And other incredulous phrases.
She did mean it. So I have joined up, and with the other 1023 entrants my blog will be considered for the title. Winners and finalists (and I have no expectations here) will receive writing courses (on line or face to face) at the Sydney Writers' Centre in Milsons Point.
Pretty amazing isn't it?
Oh, and I am told that, for those who are infinitely more comfortable with social media than I am, #bestblogs2012 is the competition twitter hash tag. Voting for the People's Choice category finishes on Thursday 9 May at 5.00pm.

ReplyDeleteKaren: Thank you.
DeleteThis is exciting! I just voted for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYou just got my vote as well! I assume Californians are allowed a say. And with all your followers and commenters you are surprised to discover someone thinks your blog writing is worthy of a prize? You are interesting. And a very good writer.
ReplyDeleteRed faced, head down, shuffling feet. Thank you.
DeleteDone did vote for ya! (If Californians are allowed to vote I would hope use in Nevada can too!) What a neat prize to win, education. However, I already enjoy your writing style.
ReplyDeleteDahn Starr: Everyone can vote. And I am grateful for yours. Thank you.
DeleteThat was much more pleasant than my country's general election will be. :D Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAustan: Thank you. Wouldn't anything, including root canal therapy and pap smears be more fun than a general election?
DeleteGood for you. Congratulations..I am only a little way in to getting to "know" you and your blog - but I love your story telling ability..Good Luck!!
ReplyDeleteOne Too Many: Thank you so much.
Deletei havent been here in an age and i have missed the gut wrenching lows of recent weeks but how nice to have a high, being the nomination!

Deletewell deserved nomination.. best wishes in the comp. hope it's not like the archibald..... lol
ReplyDeleteLydia La La: Hopefully nothing like the archibald - possibly more like the bald archies.
DeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Thank you.
DeleteYou got my vote!
ReplyDeleteTeresa: Thank you too.
DeleteYou got a big fat and slightly damp vote from western Oregon, here. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteMurr Brewster: Thank you. I am sure that a big fat slightly damp vote should count for double. At least.
DeleteWhat a wonderful thing to be nominated! My vote has gone in for you :)
ReplyDeleteWell now, of course I'm going to have to go and vote for you.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely of Kim to nominate you!
River: It was so nice of Kim. I was and am super grateful. And thank you for your vote.
DeleteDone. And what a super bit of news for you. Well-deserved. Peace...
ReplyDeleteLinda: Thank you.
DeleteGood for you. I just voted for you.
ReplyDeletemybabyjohn/Delores: Thank you.
DeleteI voted for you... too.
ReplyDeleteChristine: Thank you .... too.
DeleteWow - Congratulations! I will go vote for you right now. I certainly think you deserve it. Please don't forget us little people when you become famous. ;)
ReplyDeleteJenn June: Thank you. Just being nominated is honour enough. I would be more than flabberghasted if it went any further. And would be very foolish to forget all the wonderful people I have met here in the blogosphere.
DeleteWell done my lovely, I will certainly vote as I throughly enjoy reading your blog. You are an amazing women with tales to tell and hope to share, you often bring a smile to my face, and an occasional tear. Well done xxx
ReplyDeleteKakka: I could say much the same of you. You just keep on keeping on, despite difficulties and pain. Thank you.
DeleteI just went through the whole thing and voted for you. There are a LOT of blogs in Australia, it seems. I had to go through all the pages to get to the end where I could hit the "done" button, but you're worth it! :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you. When I got an email from the Sydney Writer's Centre they told me that there were 1024 other entrants. As you say, a lot. Thank you for spending the time to go through.
DeleteAh, Australia. Whenever I think of Australia, the name Alice Springs to mind and where was 'Mel born'? Sorry, that was silly and probably all you 'Canberra'.
ReplyDeleteFrom the short time I've had the pleasure of reading your excellent blog, I reckon you should have a darned good chance. I'm off to vote for you, my friend.
With respect and kind wishes from a confused Canadian living in England, Gary :)
klahanie: Groans at your puns. Thank you.
DeleteCongratulations! It does not surprise me that you have been nominated. Your blog is one that I must see frequently! Will try the media thing and see if I can cast a vote.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: It certainly surprised me to learn I had been nominated. I hadn't even heard of the competition. Thank you for your kind words.
DeleteOK I voted . . . but I'm not sure if it registered as I just read in another comment that they went through to the end to click "done" . . . I didn't do that. I'll go back and try again, and if it registers twice so be it.
ReplyDeleteVery well deserved
bugerlugs63: If at first you don't succeed .... More seriously? Thank you.
DeleteThe very best of luck, I am keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteFriko: I think that just being nominated is enough - but thank you for your good wishes.
DeleteThat's lovely! Voted! Shame i can't vote more than once! Congratulations! Well deserved recognition!
ReplyDeletedaisyfae: Thank you. Are you sure you can't vote more than once?
DeleteThat's an absurd number of blogs to consider. You're the only one in the list that I read (that I can see, hope I'm not offending any friends), so of course you got my vote. Hopefully your besties will beat their besties.
ReplyDeleteMs Duck: I don't even know how many 'judges' they have. They are going to be tired puppies in any event.
DeleteI see my comment was swallowed up by Blogger mucking me about. So here it is again; I have voted. I am completely biased. You deserve a prize for something, and to be fair, your blog is certainly good enough for one anyway. I hope it's as sunny where you are today as it is here.
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: It is very frustrating when Blogger develops a hissy fit. Which it is doing all too often at the moment. Thank you for your bias. And yes, we had a lovely, lovely day. Warm and not too hot. So I played in the garden.
Delete*grins*
ReplyDeleteKim: Thanks. Lots.
