Sunday Selections #305

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  I am pretty certain that grief is grey.  So this week I have been looking for colour.  And have found it.

An eastern rosella which visited.

In the garden.

 And in the sky.

The last is reflections of the sunset in the windows along our veranda.

  2. Oh, EC ... these are all so beautiful. I hope they were indeed a balm for your grief.

The second shot of the twin trees in that series, with the navy and purple and pink - that one gave me goosebumps, actual goosebumps. Thank you for sharing these.

  11. The second rozella photo is great. You have had some interesting skies of late.

    1. Andrew: Like many small birds, the rosellas move quickly and are difficult to capture with a camera. We have had some great skies. I would like some rain to go with the cloud though.

  12. It looks as if you have it all. Your Christmas cactus is right on time, and the blue and amethyst sky are beyond price.

    1. Joanne Noragon: The Christmas cactus may even have peaked a little early, but while weeding this morning I noticed that the night-flowering cactus has buds.

    1. donna baker: The king parrots delight in tearing camellias apart, but the rosellas are more restrained. This one was enjoying apple. And they also eat seed.

  17. Do you have budgies where you live? I saw a video the other day and it showed thousands and thousands of them in a flock. I didn't know they lived that way.

The Eastern Rosella is a very pretty bird. I'm jealous of your zygo cactus, I was never able to have one flower for me, and they didn't live long either. Under or over watering, I'll never know.

    1. River: This isn't a zygote cactus. It is a succulent of sorts and thrives on neglect. Would you like a cutting? I have them in hanging pots and they get hot, they get dry, they get frosted on - and still flower.

      Delete
    2. I would love a cutting, unless it is illegal to send one across the border. I might get lucky and have it grow and flower. I have a hook attached to the outside of the back porch, it was there when I moved in and I could put a hanging basket there.
