Words For Wednesday 31/5/2023

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Computer issues led her to bow out for a while.  The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.  And huge thanks to those of you who come back, sometimes time after time to cheer other contributors on.

The prompts will be here this month, but they are being provided by David M. Gascoigne. An additional prompt from Charlotte (MotherOwl) is to include May Green in your take on the prompts.

This week's prompts are:

  • Lions
  • Resources
  • Choice
  • Course
  • Systematically
  • Predator

and/or

  • Occasionally
  • Firestorm
  • Land
  • Sight
  • Reproducing
  • Humans

This is David's last week of prompts and I thank him for challenging us all. Next month the prompts will be here too, but they are being provided by Hilary Melton-Butcher

Have fun.

Sunday Selections #630

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week is again a bit of a hotch potch. Starting, as I so often do with photos at sunrise.

These trees were less than half an inch away on the horizon (if that makes sense) but were not showing any colour.
Looking in the opposite direction down the valley there was just a soft pink glow.

Next I am going to pinch an idea from River at Drifting through life and show some of our garden ornaments.

This is a solar powered mini fountain. If the day has been bright, it lights up at night until its charge is exhausted.

This is, I think, an old whale bone.  It was my father's and after he died I took it as a memento - despite the ambivalence I feel about what it is made from.

Some of you will remember that a ginger interloper used to visit - and that Jazz loathed it. The ginger family has expanded. There are now three ginger cats and this ginger and white boy.  They all visit and Batty and Odie watch them intensely.

Yesterday I had a totally unexpected and delightful treat.  Kylie, whose blog I have followed for a very long time,  was in the vicinity of my city for the weekend and suggested a blogger's meet up.  My chicken hearted self was a bit anxious, but it was lovely. Thank you Kylie.

I hope you all have a week filled with treats too.

I usually run with a theme.  This week, and I hope you will forgive me, I am indulging myself.

Starting with more skyscapes.

The watch cockie was surveying the scene with me.

The corellas were starting to come in too. Like me, they are early birds.

The last two shots are at dusk - less than five minutes apart.

I went in to town to do my usual shift at Lifeline last week.  It was a chilly day, but the skies were brilliant blue and the autumnal glory is still on display.

I completed my shift and was saying goodbye to the staff when I received a VERY pleasant surprise.  Last week was volunteer week and in recognition that I am the longest standing volunteer at my centre I was given a beautiful bunch of flowers.  I floated towards the bus stop - and as I went past the early morning centre (where I made my usual food donation on my way in) on my way home several of the homeless people there told me how beautiful my flowers were.  They were right.

The flowers above broke off when I was unwrapping them so they sit in a small vase above the sink.  And make me smile. The remaining photos give some detail from the big and beautiful bunch.

I hope you are all appreciated for who you are this week.
