Words for Wednesday 17/8/2022

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Computer issues led her to bow out for a while.  The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

Last month's prompts were provided by Hilary Melton-Butcher for which we thank her.  This month they will again be here, and I am providing them.

This week's prompts are some typically Australian phrases/slang.  Feel free to add more, and use (or not use) these as you see fit.

  1. Pull the wool over his eyes
  2. Put a sock in it
  3. Dog's breakfast
  4. Gone walkabout
  5. Six of one, half a dozen of the other
  6. Tell him he's dreaming
Have fun.

Sunday Selections #594

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. Sorry, this has been a busy and sad week so it is more snippets from home.

Jazz does have cancer.  Palliative care is our only option.  We will keep him comfortable and happy for as long as we can and will then set him free with love and regret.  We have transdermal painkillers for him which are administered by smearing them in his ears.  They seem to work really well.  As I prepare this post he is purring and eating a little.  Both wonderful signs.

Now to the snippets.  I am still surrounded by beauty, and very grateful for it.

Early mornings continue to delight me.

The birds also bring me joy.

The blotchy young crimson rosellas in the photos above is developing his/her adult plumage.  Soon he/she will look like this, resplendent in blues and reds with no green feathers to be seen.

The rainbow lorikeets also continue to add colour to our often bare trees and wintry skies.

I hope you find colour and beauty in your week.

One day we got buckets of rain.  Most of the birds seem to be quite well weatherproofed.  This galah was not.

It was a grey day literally and metaphorically.  Himself had another appointment with his dermatologist who removed what he described as a very ugly cancer from his forehead.  I doubt he was talking about the growth's appearance.  One appointment down, several more to go.

Jazz has been having a flare up of his pancreatitis.  It wasn't responding to the medication so we got an emergency vet appointment.  They confirmed that his pancreas was acting up but also told us that he has a mass in his abdomen - strongly suspected to be cancer.  As I type we are waiting for the biopsy results.  The punk pussy (he has been shaved in a number of places) is home and very glad of it.  He is also eating well again, and does not appear to be in any pain.  Next steps will depend on the diagnosis, prognosis and how he is feeling.

There was still beauty about - for which I am thankful.

Beauty on grey days.

And there is beauty in the garden too.

Our Cootamundra wattles are bursting into bloom.

Daisies continue to flower.

There are grevilleas (much loved by many small birds and insects) coming out.

A neighbour (now deceased) gave me this Japanese Iris some years ago.  I welcome it each year and think of him.

I hope that you also find beauty, colour and balance in your week.
