This meme was started by Delores a long time ago. Computer issues led her to bow out for a while. The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write. Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image. What we do with those prompts is up to us: a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore... We can use some or all of the prompts.
Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog. I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants. If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.
The prompts will be here this month
Here are this week's prompts.

Have fun.
Love these gorgeous pictures.
ReplyDeletemxtodis123: Thank you.
DeleteI had an early start on this week's images. I am curious to see what others have done with them

Wisewebwoman: I am looking forward to seeing where they took you. I will be over v shortly.
DeleteThe water is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSandi: It is, isn't it?
DeleteFriends and colleagues commemorated you,
ReplyDeleteWalking with ceremony and solemnity.
On that same dark morning,
I chose to celebrate your life with a sparkling, dancing path of light across the water,
And the sun, breaking through the clouds,
and my tears.
The celebration sounds like the better of the two.
DeleteMy story is written, and will be up in a few hours.
messymimi: I look forward to reading your story. And yes, I would prefer a celebration to a commemoration too.
DeleteLovely, EC...
DeleteDry those tears from your eyes.... :)
Bob Hawke?
DeleteRiver: No. Fictional, but I cannot imagine crying for the demise of a politician.
DeleteA little bit of sunshine to dry the sadness of your tears.
DeleteThat was beautifully done Elephant's Child. A beautiful commemoration seasoned with tears.
DeleteHugs, Julia
How beautiful!
DeleteYour offering is short on words, but it's long on meaning and impact. Beautifully done! Poetic, even. You are much more talented than you believe you are.
DeleteSad but also sweet.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
Superb water, so calm.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Thank you. I really love that spot beside the lake.
DeleteI hope you are doing fine.
ReplyDeleteBlue
Blue Grumpster: Ok thank you. Off to have a medical test I loathe this morning. How is your back?
DeleteThe relentless rain that had fallen over the past two weeks finally ceased. It was as if a giant tap up above had been switched off by an invisible hand.
ReplyDeleteThe heavy, leaden clouds quickly dissipated. Glimpses of blue began to appear in the sky that hadn’t been visible for many days.
The property's dam again looked like a dam, not a dry, barren waste.
Hope reigns eternally with the most generous help of the rains.
Lee: Great use of the images. I think only those of us who know drought can appreciate just how welcome rain can be.
DeleteLee. NSW farmers are hoping it will be their turn next to experience this massive rainfall
DeleteYou did an awesome job capturing the uplifting powers of rain, especially after a drought.
DeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteonly slightly confused: Thank you. I hope they inspire you.
DeleteWhat a lovely view! I do hope all is well with you, this summer has been just crazy busy for me.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: I hope your crazy busy has been both productive and fun.
DeleteI think I need a new thinking cap....
ReplyDeleteRiver: Your existing thinking cap always comes up with the goods. Even when you think it won't/can't.
DeleteLovely photos.
ReplyDeleteWondrous water with the sun sparkling on it makes for a pretty view. How many birds would sit on the fence and do a lol...
Trust me :)
Margaret-whiteangel: The birds love that pool. We have seen ducks, gulls and swans swimming in it, and gulls and pelicans on the fence.
DeleteWhat beautiful photos of wonderful waters. The only problem is that they made my brain switch to holiday mode. Sorry, no story.
ReplyDeleteUglemor: It is me that is sorry. I have failed to inspire this week.
DeleteElephant's Child, you're always inspiring. I felt sad about not participating, and then I remembered that I still had to use the prompts from the 5th. As I'm quite busy this week, here's a really short story from The Unicorn Farm. Link
DeleteAfter the deluge he swam and he swam looking for his mate. Surely he'd find her again. Then he found he was blocked from reaching his mate by a fence in the middle of the water. He made a calling sound to her and she swam back to encourage him.
ReplyDeleteSadly he could find no way through the fence. They both tread water longing to finally join in procreation. Still there was no way through. If only the water would rise just a little more. There wasn't much hope for that as the skies had turned sunny. He started to swim back in the other direction and she couldn't believe he was giving up. All of a sudden he swam back at a fast pace and at the last minute he tossed himself into the air and landed on the other side. And the two pisces were united once again.
Pisces meaning fish I presume, i had no idea that fish were so romantic. I have a fishy story too.
DeleteAll this time I thought they were ducks, lol...I'm glad the pisces got together at long last.
DeleteLinda Starr: A lovely take on pisces triumphant.
DeleteA happy ending to a piscine romance. Thanks.
DeleteNo fence is too high when the urge to procreate is strong enough. :) Nice job.
DeleteWater-crossed lovers? I honestly thought these were humans until the end.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
Hi EC - love the idyllic float on the lake - so restful on a summer's day ... not too hot. Gorgeously relaxing, just watching the clouds change, the dapple of water ... my eyes gently close ... it's so blissful. What a way to spend an hour or two - peacefully, happily day-dreaming ...
ReplyDeleteHaving just had the most horrendous night of thunderstorms and lightning strikes (thankfully I'm fine - no floods, just a bit of electrical resetting of things!) ... going on all day apparently - we need the rain ... but this much?! Still nature cannot be controlled.
Cheers and I'll be back to read the others - Hilary
Send as much rain as possible to Southern and central NSW in Aus we need all you can spare.
DeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Love your tale, and dreaming beside the water is bliss. Exchoing Vest on the rain though.
DeletePeacefully daydreaming on the float in the water sounds like an idyllic way to spend a couple hours. (Or more...) Sounds a lot like bits of my childhood...
DeleteWhen it buckets down ... I'd happily send some of it off to other places ... we might get some extra tomorrow - I'm wishing it away!
DeleteGently floating in stillness is just so wonderful ... cheers to you all - Hilary
Words this week are replaced by a picture of a river with what looks like a net draped from bank to bank. Below is my explanation.
ReplyDeleteThe top picture is that of a net across the river ooze a tributary of the Rhine in Belgium Where a twelve-year-old boy named Russel was fishing recently and caught a strange unidentified green Coloured fish. the fish has had people worldwide flummoxed as nothing like it has been caught in the river anything like it but authorities are hoping the net may turn up another, in the meanwhile the fish is still alive and giving great wonder to scientists who have named it... yes its true.
A RUSSELLS TROUT.
This has been posted on my blog if you wish to travel, thank you.
ReplyDeleteVest: Thank you. I have travelled, and enjoyed the trip.
DeleteEC. My yarn has been lost in translation. The clue for the confused was; Brussels Sprout Belgique, oh well never mind. one smarty guessed correctly.
DeleteIsn't it amazing that we are STILL discovering new species?!
DeleteI love clouds; it's good to look up.
ReplyDeleteWe in NSW are not looking up but looking down at the parched land. no clouds are seen . just looking down in despair.
DeleteAuthor R. Mac Wheeler: I love them too. And do look up.
DeleteMy story is over at my blog...https://peppylady.blogspot.com/2019/06/wednesday-pop-up-number-forty.html
ReplyDeletepeppylady (Dora): Off to read it now.
Deletepeppy lady. I will visit your blog soon, .. Seems the recent elections in AUS have deprived bloggers of Travel allowances.
DeleteThose are pretty photos and always enjoy the fun even when I don't participate.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you.
DeleteIt came from the deep dark riverbed. Four trees hugged the shoreline staring ahead like frozen statues... fixated on a sparkling creature which silently emerged. It yawned and stretched it arms. People watched in shocked dumb fascination. The creature spoke. It Spoke!!! "Feed me now, I'm hungry!"
ReplyDeleteSpacer Guy: Love it - and hope the sparkling creature was fed.
DeleteOhh, is this horror or pure science Fiction? A sparkling creature in an intriguing tale begging to be continued.
DeleteI'm picturing the creature from the black lagoon... (from an old cheesy movie) Nice job. I hope he's vegetarian. :)
DeleteI'm so going with the second picture and without looking at anyone else's comments, here's my take:
ReplyDeleteThe dragon relaxed and allowed the hot wind to carry her along the sky. She looked down, again wondering about the tiny creatures of this alive planet where the air was tainted, but so much sweeter than her own dying world.
She drifted further along, passing water and land and water again, paying attention to the busy places where the ants came and went. Finally, she saw a large, warm area and she circled lower and lower, ready to launch again, if needed.
Her talons sank a little, but she sensed it was not so deep. Small pieces of the land blew in her eyes, but she was alone and with a deep sigh, knew this could be her home.
Mark Koopmans: I really, really like this, and as a confirmed dragon lover would welcome her.
DeleteHere there be dragons for sure. Count me in.
DeleteLet there be dragons! What an imaginative take on the picture. Well-written, too.
DeleteWhat a sweet story. I like her search for home.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
PS: Fun to see that so many were drawn to the water, but the "only" thing I saw was the huge dragon spreading her wings in the sky :)
ReplyDeleteI love creative people - we see so many things in so many ways!!
Mark Koopmans: One of the things I find most fascinating about this meme is the very different directions the prompts take participants. Thank you so much for joining us.
DeleteI want my writing to be like that first picture.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Your writing DOES sparkle.
DeleteYou put smiles on my face, EC:)
DeleteThe sparkles on the water reminded her of the diamonds she'd lost, the diamonds of her wedding train, her wedding ring, the string on her neck, nearly choking her. She closed her eyes against the sight, took a deep breath in, let it out, turned her head and opened her eyes at the blue sky above.
ReplyDeleteFinally, she glanced back at the river of sparkling blue water. The shimmer on the water was the kind she could love, she could embrace without fear. She stepped up to the dock and rang for the ferry-man. He could help her get to the other side.
Tyrean Martinson: Thank you so much for joining us. I do hope the other side treats her much more kindly.
DeleteKudos, Tyrean.
DeleteLovely. Both sad and hopeful. Well-done.
DeleteI love that this was surprising in the beginning- sad and lost compared to what I was expecting after looking at the pictures. But often a beautiful scene is being viewed by people in all different emotional states and I like that this spotlighted it. I like the hope at the end and hope the other side is better to her. :)

Diamonds upon water
ReplyDeleteBeneath in water cold
God's creation at play
Susan Kane: Those diamonds on the water are worth so much more than the supposedly precious gems.
DeleteWell done, Susan.
DeleteShort and sweet. Beautiful!
DeleteThe sunlight dances upon the water, then vanishes behind the clouds, in wait for another day.
ReplyDeleteLon Anderson: Welcome back. In wait for another day and sometimes just for another hour.
DeleteAnother short and sweet one. Beautiful. I love how the pictures seem to have encouraged so much poetic writing.
DeleteSuch beautiful photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you.
DeleteSo...I'm going to bend the rules a bit and use one of the pictures (maybe both) as a prompt for my blog two weeks from now. I'll be sure to link back to this post and to give the photo credits too.
ReplyDeleteElsie
Elsie Amata: Rules were made to be broken. I look forward to seeing where the photos take you - as I do all of your posts.
DeleteMy take is here - the fairy's reprieve , a second part to a previous story though you really don't have to read the first part to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa: I really enjoyed the fairy's reprieve. Thank you for joining us again.
DeleteIt looks like a peaceful and serene way to spend some time (looking at the scenery and writing about it too). :) I like to read what the participants come up with for the prompts.
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: We all need a bit of peace don't we? I also really, really enjoy seeing where the prompts take people.
DeleteBuen fin de semana. Un saludo desde Almería España
ReplyDeleteTrini Altea: Thank you. I hope your weekend is lovely.
