Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week it is murals. Again. My city seems to have adopted them with a vengeance. All of these were outside a building which is being renovated. I much prefer the splashes of colour and whimsy to the bare boards which are often associated with shopfront renovations. I assume these are temporary, but thoroughly enjoyed them.
The dark lines on the panda and the next shots were shadows from a nearby tree.
I like that the colour overflows onto the pavement too.
And a nearby monolithic sculpture.
I hope your week(s) are bright and colourful.
Australia seems to be in the forefront of using murals as a part of urban landscapes and I think that many cities have done a great job with it. It enlivens otherwise dull cityscapes.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: It is nice to be at the forefront (if we are) of something positive for a change. I look forward to seeing new additions and agree that it brightens otherwise dull cityscapes (and my mood).
DeleteI enjoyed these murals as well.
ReplyDeleteCaterina: I am glad.
DeleteI wish all communities would do this! Colorful splashes everywhere to bring a smile to your face. Love the pavement as well. At least that's permanent.
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: I hope the pavement is permanent. It depends I suppose on what paint they used - but this little corner DID put an early morning smile on my face.
DeleteMy favoutite mural is a turtle
ReplyDeleteGosia: I liked a lot of them including the turtle and the platypus, and welcomed them all.
DeleteMore examples of talent on display. Unfortunately, I have known of my own to display (not without embarrassment, anyway)!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, EC. Cuddles to Jazz, your furry mate. :)
Lee: You are a stranger to the truth. I have seen some of your art work.
DeleteJazz is not well at the moment. We had a trip to the vet yesterday and he felt so poorly he behaved well. He is a smidge better, but has a way to go.
I hope you and your overlords have a great week.
Such great murals. They brighten the city.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: They do. I actually prefer them to the shop windows, and will be happy if the restoration takes a while.
DeleteI’d definitely prefer these murals to bare boarding. They are actually quite interesting. Does someone paint them or do they come ready made and get put up without any particular order.
ReplyDeleteFriko: I know not, but haven't seen any duplicates which leads me to suggest that they aren't ready made.
DeleteNo argument about the bare boarding versus mural thing.
These are brilliant, EC. It must really lift one's spirits to have so much colour and vitality on walls which would be otherwise be blank and dull (or graffiti-covered).
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Jazz is not his usual self - I hope he is back to normal soon. Sammy had a visit to the vet recently too; she was not eating, or playing, or talking (most unlike her). When the vet took her temperature it was extremely high, but antibiotics did the trick and restored her normal bossy personality.
I hope you have a colourful and comfortable week.
Alexia: Thank you. Jazz is decidedly not himself. After his visit to the vet yesterday (and an anti-nausea shot) he picked up a bit. And even ate miniscule amounts. Today both eating and drinking are too hard. And the vet is shut. I have just managed to coax him to drink a little water and eat minute amounts of food but am worried.
DeleteOh dear that doesn't sound good. I would be worried too - fingers crossed that he improves soon.
DeleteAlexia: I will be ringing the vet as soon as they open tomorrow.
DeleteHow is Jazz today, EC?
DeleteAlexia: At the vet. The blood tests were inconclusive. Now x-rays and perhaps an ultrasound. I HATE waiting.
DeleteWhat a worry for you. I do hope that the news is positive x
DeleteAlexia: Jazz is still at the vet, and on a drip. Things are looking a little better today and we are waiting for a call after they run more tests this afternoon.
DeletePoor fellow - glad things are looking a little better.
DeleteAlexia: Thank you. The punk pussy (rather a lot of shaved areas) is home. He is eating a little and drinking a little. A follow up trip to the vet is scheduled for later in the week.
DeleteI love the murals and they are so colorful. It kind of reflects the mood of the city. Lively and fun, never boring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this lovely are form with us.
Hugs, Julia
Julia: Thank you. I really hope the murals continue - and grow.
DeleteOops, Thanks for sharing this lovely art form with us.
ReplyDeleteJulia
Julia: Not a problem. I often cringe at the typos I make - and knew what you meant.
DeleteMade me smile this Sunday morning. What a friendly looking platypus and the blue haired woman is rather shocking, in a good way.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: Smiles are always welcome. I rather like those two myself.
DeleteIt's a wonderful idea to use murals this way. Now if only they could do something about the ugly orange construction barrels on the highways. (Yes, i know, that would cause accidents, but i do get tired of looking at the ugly barrels and cones and signs.)
ReplyDeleteMy pictures simply delve into my archives again this week.
messymimi: I would like to see more murals - and look forward to delving into your archives a little later.
DeleteI simply adore all those murals. The faces are incredible. I hope they are permanent, but even if they aren't, you have made them immortal with your pictures. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: I doubt that they will be permanent, but really enjoyed coming across them. And how interesting to think that my blog may give them a longer life.
DeleteVery groovy! The panda's gold tooth made me chuckle.
ReplyDeleteBea: He is obviously an urban panda.
DeleteThe more I looked at it, the monolithic sculpture looks like a shiny silver pig.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I can see that. Except that he is a concrete pig.
DeleteSuch bright colored murals.
ReplyDeleteJamie Ghione: Much better than a boarded up construction site.
DeleteThe panda looks like he or she is smiling but those teeth are slightly disturbing. I like the turtle, that's my fav.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I like some more than others, but really liked that they were there.
Deleteall those colors are so joyful to see
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: I thought so too.
DeleteThe murals are far preferable to the bare and somewhat grubby boards gracing parts of Adelaide recently.
ReplyDeleteRiver: In the past we have had those ugly boards, but I have noticed the murals in two town centres concealing renovation work. A great idea I think.
DeleteThe Platypus and Panda appear to be very happy!!
ReplyDeleteBill: The turtle has a smile too.
DeleteWow,those murals are surely great pices of art, simply stunning☺
ReplyDeletenatalia20041989: Aren't they fun?
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI wish our cities would embrace murals as much as yours have done - they do so much to brighten up an urban environment. We all need some colour in our lives!
Thank you for sharing.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: We do indeed all need colour. I am so grateful that my city seems to have recognised that.
DeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteR's Rue: I thought so too.
DeleteWhat brilliant talent! It would be such fun to be able to paint like that, unfortunately painting a door is the extent of my skill
ReplyDeleteKim: I have no artistic talent at all - something I mourn. I am however, grateful to be an appreciator.
DeleteThese are beautiful. I love that they can turn a drab space into something interesting.
ReplyDeleteRick Watson: Not only drab spaces, but frequently ugly ones too. I am a firm believer in our NEED for beauty.
DeleteThese are utterly amazing and beautiful! Husby sits on the Arts Board in our city, trying vainly to get our town fathers to do the same thing. "Come on! Just one wall? Can we have at least one?!" Sigh.
ReplyDeleteDiane Stringham Tolley: Good luck to your Husby. They really do brighten spaces - and moods.
DeleteI adore murals, it gives so many the chance to express themselves and so publicly too. They lift the spirits and give a reason to stop and give thoughtful evaluation.
ReplyDeleteThank you!

Wisewebwoman: Conservatively speaking I agree with you about 10000 per cent.
DeleteGood morning, I enjoy having the weekend off from work so I can catch your Sunday post actually on my Sunday. You have delighted us again with your photos, from #3 crazy-live hair I call it to the cute animals with their own expressions (possibly my favorite). Enjoy your new week ahead and take care!
ReplyDelete21 Wits: I am so glad that you were able to drop in, and humbled that you did so on your rare day off.
DeleteWandbilder voller Farbe und verschiedene Motive.
ReplyDeleteNoke
Noke: I was fascinated by the very wide range - in quite a small space.
DeleteOh my gosh. These are grand.
ReplyDeleteYou have a fabulous day.
Sandra Cox: Thank you. And to you.
DeleteI love how creative people are. My hubby and our daughter can draw and paint wonderfully but not me.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: It isn't a talent I can claim either. I am constantly amazed at what people can create.
DeleteBrilliant murals - in both senses of the word! I LOVE the person with blue hair in the shape of musical notes; very inspired. You are lucky indeed to have these supersized works of art to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to read about Jazz. Something our cats find palatable if they're feeling unwell is canned tuna or salmon juice, just a little at a time. And sometimes a bit of the fish, mashed in its juice. Our vet has also recommended sardines but we haven't had any luck with those. I hope the vet can find out what is going on tomorrow. Hugs, EC.
jenny_o: Thank you. I really enjoy coming across these splashes of coloure.
DeleteJazz is no better today. Food is still anethema, and even more scary, so is water. I will ring the Vet when they open shortly.
These are done by some very creative people. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: How I would love to have the creative gene (and the required discipline). I agree, these are amazing.
DeleteDude, if we could get murals of this quality in my city, I'd let them do my house for free.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: I would LOVE to see suburban houses decorated this way.
DeleteHi EC,
ReplyDeleteSome fab murals there.
:o)
Cheers
PM
Plastic Mancunian: There are, aren't there?
DeleteI think that might be a ninja turtle in that mural.
ReplyDeletePowdered Toast Man: You could well be right.
DeleteLove the murals. They add interesting elements to a city.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: They do, and much needed colour too.
DeleteI wish I could talk to the people who come up with these amazing murals to find out how they came up with the amazing ideas and how long it took to actually paint. Quite fascinating and so lovely. Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteRO: I am always awed by artists. Whatever their genres. Hugs received and reciprocated.
Deleteohhhhhhhhh
ReplyDeletelove that color.
You know me...
Author R. Mac Wheeler: Of course.
DeleteWOW...such breathtaking murals! These really are masterpieces, aren't they?!
ReplyDeleteReally wish we had such beauty dotted around our town...all we have here are people's initials!
Have a super day!😊😊
Love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ygraine: I really like the way they brighten an otherwise dull corner. And the mood lift they provide.
DeleteI hope your day (and week) is wonderful.
Oh wow.. these are all fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: I am so glad you liked them as much as I did.
DeleteYour city really is against grafitti - in the best possible way. Kudos to those who gave permission and especially those who gave paint, time and skills to help benefit the community in such a cool way!
ReplyDeleteMark Koopmans: We really don't have a big graffiti problem, and it is even less likely on and around murals. Such an effective (and lovely) solution.
DeleteDear EC, I enjoyed all the murals, but especially, the one of the woman with purple hair. The items that made up her hair made me think that possibly they represented the thoughts that skitter across our brains in moments and nanoseconds! Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee: I really like that one too, and would be happy for it to remain (sadly unlikely). And yes, there are a LOT of thoughts scurrying round in my crowded head.
DeleteBeautiful splashes of color for sure! Definitely more appealing than what is normally put up during renovations. So many different styles too. Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS ~Jess: It is such a simple thing and makes so much difference. I hope the whole city takes this idea on board, particularly for long renovation jobs.
DeleteFabulously vibrant colours!
ReplyDeleteLady Fi: Aren't they? A decided improvement.
DeleteOoh. I love the color on the pavement. Very creative.
ReplyDeleteSandra: My colour, whimsy and beauty obsessed self loves it all.
DeleteSuch culture.
ReplyDeleteSuch ART!
Thank you for sharing, dearest! xx
My Inner Chick: Lovely to see you out and about in the blogosphere - and many thanks.
DeleteI wish all renovations were so considerate. So nice how they not only block the eyesores but adorn the buildings.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed these. Thanks so much.
Unknown: Welcome and thank you. I hope this idea takes off.
DeleteLove murals
ReplyDeleteSue in Italia/in the Land Of Cancer: So do I.
DeleteI like the idea of decorating the hoardings that cover the construction sites. So much nicer than the tatty old plywood boards. I love seeing colour everywhere, even if it is temporary.
ReplyDeleteShammickite: I am in complete and utter agreement with you.
DeleteThese really are good, and there is a lot of detail in them … in fact I've scrolled up and down quite a few times trying not to miss anything. The colours are great and how lovely to see these, and not just places boarded up.
ReplyDeleteA very nice Sunday Selection.
Hope your week is going well, and that Jazz is now improving?
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. I suspect every time I go past this area (while the renovations are under way) I will see things I have missed.
DeleteJazz is home again, and a little better but we aren't out of the woods yet.
Some really awesome work of art just love those vibrant and bright colors.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: Such a simple and wonderful idea.
DeleteStunning works of art.
ReplyDeleteRomance Reader: I am so grateful to whoever had the bright idea that murals would be better than boarding up the building.
DeleteFabulous series, love those shadow shots.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you. I was initially a bit peeved that I couldn't get those shots without the shadow - but I warmed to them.
DeleteLove, Love, Love, EC!!!! Thanks for making my day! Brilliant!! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMagic Love Crow: I think that everyone who saw them smiled. I hope so anyway. Hugs received and reciprocated.
ReplyDeleteHi EC - they're amazing ... I saw similar ones in Victoria, on Vancouver Island ... and as you say they brighten up the bare boards. Love the porpoise or is it a platypus winking at us ... and also the idea of moving the mural onto the pavement. Bet they amuse people and make everyone more cheerful ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeletePS I'm going to see what the writing says ... ah I see an older black and white one with a child on the Corilla's back ... looking to keep us all free, particularly creatures of the earth - hugs on their way ...
Hilary Melton-Butcher: They are a heap of fun, and I love the message in the black and white one.
DeleteIt was a platypus, a rare and wonderful critter, winking at passersby.
Those murals are beautiful! It's sad to think that they might only be temporary when such talent and effort went into them. Maybe they'll be relocated...? :-)
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: I would like it if they are relocated, but doubt that it will happen. On the other hand, renovations here are often very slow, and the chances are good that we will have them to enjoy for a long time.
Delete
