Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I
usually run with a theme. It is hot here this weekend. My MS thrives in the heat. I loathe it. So I am hunkering down indoors and taking you back to the holiday of my life - in Antarctica. Many of you have seen these photos before. My apologies.
Have a wonderful weekend.
River Fairchild - I will gladly ogle your Antarctica photos anytime, anywhere, since sadly I don’t think I’ll ever get to that magical place. It must have been thrilling for you to experience it! I worry about what climate change is doing to destroy it now.
ReplyDeleteI’m sorry it’s heating up so fast for you. The autumn and spring seasons seem to be shrinking. Soon we’ll only have summer and winter if the trend keeps up.
Hoping you will catch a break this week with a cool down.
Give my homage to the furry ones and hugs to you always.
River Fairchild: Thank you. On all counts. We are apparently getting a bit of a break in the heat by the middle of next week. Some rain is predicted too though I won't hold my breath. I am so glad that I got to this gorgeous place and the news from Antarctica is very bad at the moment.
DeleteAntarctica is beautiful and the photos are always worth a look!
ReplyDeleteI think it's going to cool down mid week? I hope so.
Take care
kylie: I really really hope that the cooler weather eventuates. It is not yet eight and already hotter than I like. And yes, Antarctica IS beautiful. Very, very beautiful.
DeleteAlready cold here in Florida the snow made me colder. However, I have missed seeing some snow at Christmas. Love those seals and penguins so cute. I hope you have a wonderful new week.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: Cold in Florida? I didn't think that was a happening thing - but I suppose it is all relative. Enjoy your week too.
DeleteHi EC - oh I'd love to visit ... but I do not like the cold ... we're in a blustery, snowy, very wet England - varying aspects across the country. Stunning wildlife ... amazing ... and yes - do keep thinking cold ... all the best - Hilary xoxo
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: You can only visit Antarctica as a tourist in the summer. It really wasn't that cold - and amazingly beautiful. I hope you don't have to go out in your blustery weather.
DeleteI wish you could go again.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I am so glad I could go once. And hug the memories.
DeleteA vacation that you will never forget.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you gave me the opportunity to look at these magnificent images.
Caterina: I will never, ever forget it and am glad that you enjoyed my photos (there are hundreds more).
DeleteThose pictures are adorable. I hope you feel better.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you.
DeleteOh never apologize for repeats. Your ant antartica trip was amazing and I love love the pics. This was on my bucket list too along with so many other places, but like your good self, I think a lot about the places I was so privileged to see. I was never one for cruises or planned itinerary agendas so often went where the wind blew me.

WWW
Wisewebwoman: Antarctica was a long held dream for me - and it didn't disappoint. Indeed it exceeded my expectations.
DeleteWonderful, amazing icy cold sceneries
ReplyDeleteroentare: Tourists can only visit Antarctica in summer so it really wasn't that cold.
DeleteSounds like the trip of a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: It was.
DeleteI would love to have the chance to go there even once, but it's not gonna happen, so I will cherish your pictures along with many other admirers of yours. Windy and warm here today; I'll take itl
ReplyDeleteDJan: Windy and hot here today. Bleah. Thoughts of this glorious place are both heart warming and cooling though.
DeleteIf you moved to Antarctica maybe your MS would go away! Or not.
ReplyDeleteMike: I strongly suspect I would have less relapses.
DeleteHello there, EC....I hope the heat soon diminishes somewhat to allow you some peace. I'll be glad when summer is well and truly over. I certainly prefer the cooler temps. Take good care, as I know you do.
ReplyDeleteAntarctica is such a fascinating, beautiful area and your visit will never fade, I am sure.
Please give my cuddles to Batty and Odie. I hope they're doing okay. I can't believe that it will be two years this coming Wednesday since I lost my beloved Remy. I miss him and love him today as much as I did before he passed. That feeling will never diminish.
Lee: Thank you. I know what you mean about missing your beloved Remy. I know just how you feel - for him and his sister. And other cats too.
DeleteOur boys are doing well though Batty's asthma is worse in summer - another reason to wish it gone.
That place and your trip were a marvel. Your photos enable me to see what I otherwise would not, so thanks much. I am sorry that with climate change it is melting. Be well.
ReplyDeletee: The loss of Antarctica is almost unthinkable. And the Arctic too.
DeleteI am so glad that I was able to see it - and glad that you enjoyed my photos.
Your photos warmed my heart, Sue. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could send you a few degrees below zero.
Please, take good care of yourself.
The peace of the night.
Sean Jeating: Many, many thanks.
DeletePlease tell me you have airconditioning inside your home. The photos are all so beautiful, the shape of that ice in #5 and the molting penguin, all of it so beautiful. It's a little cooler here this week, below 30 for sure, around mid 20s.
ReplyDeleteRiver: We have an evaporative cooler which makes a huge difference. I did love the ice, the penguins, the birds, the seals...
DeleteYou can show these again and again! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Thank you.
DeleteMy memory is all shot to hell so you could show the same photos every week and they would always be new to me. These pictures are particularly glorious. I love the creatures. I was looking through your reading list. I am an Anne Tyler fan. A couple of your Tyler books are among the few I haven't read: French Braid and Redhead By The Side of the Road. My favorite is her masterpiece: Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant. I also love The Accidental Tourist. It's funny in its sad sweetness. I've enjoyed so many of her books.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Janie Junebug: She is always worth reading isn't she? And I do love those of hers you mentioned too. Antarctica was heaven on a stick for me.
DeleteHeaven on a stick -- what a wonderful description that is.
DeleteJanie Junebug: And it doesn't even begin to describe how good it was. I dislocated my jaw on a daily basis marvelling at the wonders outside.
DeleteWonderful to see these beautiful photos EC. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: Thank you.
DeleteI need warmth, just looking at these magnificent photographs my my skin prickle with goosebumps! The close up of the seal is brilliant - I keep going back to see that blissful expression again and again.
ReplyDeleteKim: That elephant seal was totally blissed out wasn't he, just baking on the beach. I love the member of his harem too.
DeleteI love those penguins. I did not know about MS. I send you ten times the usual brotherly hugs from the Northern Hemisphere.
ReplyDeleteBill: Many thanks. And your hugs are reciprocated.
Buen domingo amiga Sue, y cuídate mucho.
Manuel: Thank you. Sadly my MS gets worse in the heat so I prefer the cooler months. I hope you have a wonderful week.
DeleteHaha. What a way to cool off. My niece travelled there a few years ago, and took pictures, too. She loved it. But, too cold for me.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: It really wasn't all that cold. Cool but not cold. I went swimming twice - without a wet suit.
DeleteMy God! Unbelievable!
Deletegigi-hawaii: Never let a chance go by...
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your photos and I hope that seeing the ice from Antarctica has helped you to feel a little cooler. I don't really enjoy our dull grey days in the UK but when it is cold but bright with a blue sky, it is beautiful. I hope you will get some respite from the heat this week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Grey days can get me down too. Luckily our winters are mostly bright and clear - and you are right it is beautiful. It will cool down (a little) by Thursday. Fingers crossed.
DeleteJust gorgeous…even without penguins. With them…incredible!
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: How I wish I could share the sight of penguins porpoising through the ocean...
DeleteI haven't seen these before or rather, I don't remember seeing them. Looks really cold there but here we're experiencing winter here so it's mighty cold just looking. That mountain view in the first shot is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa: There was beauty everywhere I looked. It wasn't that cold either.
DeleteWhat an amazing adventure! Fantastic photos. Such a long way to go for most of us.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: It was a long way for me too. I started by flying to Argentina. I am not a good traveller but it was sooooo worth it.
DeleteThank you for sharing these lovely photographs from your trip to Antarctica.
ReplyDeleteI do hope the weather may cool down a little for you this week.
Sending good wishes across the miles.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. Hopefully by the end of the week it will be cooler.
DeleteI am sure that you have more than enough memories for a lifetime. It's a place I have always dreamed of visiting, but I doubt that I will now. Still, I have been to many beautiful and exciting places in the world, and those memories are precious too. Thanks goodness for digital cameras. We can all memorialize so much. Stay well, Sue. Hugs - David
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: You are right. I treasure those memories as I know that you do of the places you have seen. And definitely hooray for digital cameras.
DeleteLovely pinguin and adorable seal...
ReplyDeleteDecember, snow, ice in Antartica...it's remember me about my childhood memories that just can see all of them from tv (movie), because in my country just only has a 2 season, rain and dry. Greetings
Mbul Kecil: Thank you. Some parts of Australia gets snow. Most of our big country does not. A very few places get penguins too. Have a great week.
DeleteGreat photos and the trip of a lifetime. We are now in early winter, with 4 months to go until spring. I like cold better than wet heat but at my age even cold is hard to deal with.
ReplyDeleteThe Blog Fodder: Even before MS raised its ugly head I preferred winter to summer. It is easier to get warm than cool I think. You are right though - Antarctica was the trip of a lifetime.
DeleteBeautiful fhotos, I love them and would like to go there ... just a dream ... but so, so cold. I sith here shiwering just to look, and outside drizzle and grey. I'd love to send you some of my cold and rain in exchange for some heat, I can't really relax, always tensing up in the winter, giving me aches, pains and cramps from neck to toe. Well too much and too little ...
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): It really wasn't that cold. It was summer when we went. And WAS incredibly beautiful. I am so glad that I made the decision (some said it was rash) and went.
DeleteAntaktis... the dream of so many.
ReplyDeleteThese wonderful photos. No, I can't see enough of it.
Wonderful.
Great vacation and wonderful memories.
A hug for you.
Thank you very much von Viola
Barwitzki: Viola - lovely to see you here again. Antarctica was a dream come true for me, and I hug those memories tightly.
DeleteTrust me, I'm very glad to see your Antarctica photos any time you wish to use them.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: Thank you.
DeleteIt must have been the trip of a lifetime, and I hope it cools you down a little bit in your heat. Hopefully your summer won't be too hot all the time and there won't be any big wildfires. That's always my wish at the beginning of our summer. Stay well, Sue.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Thank you. Sadly there are already fires burning out of control. Rain is forecast here and I really, really hope it happens. As you know Antarctica was the trip of my lifetime. I am so glad that when opportunity knocked I went.
DeleteI’ve missed your posts so much, Elephant’s Child. You are very lucky to have taken such a journey—traveling is a gift to the soul and leaves an indelible mark. Wishing you well and hoping you continue to enjoy life to the fullest!
ReplyDeleteKaterinas Blog: What a lovely thing to say. Thank you.
DeleteI feel cold just looking at the photos- I hope it helps a teeny bit with your MS. I always forget we are opposite seasons..here it is just now dropping into the 40s and 50s at night. :)
ReplyDeleteColoring Outside the Lines: It does help (a little). How I wish we cooled down more than we do at night.
DeleteI'd like to go to Antarctica - it's a wee bit too far, sadly.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plastic Mancunian: You surprise me. It was a long way but worth it. I flew to Argentina and then went on an icebreaker for the rest of the way - which was an adventure in itself.
DeleteThese photos are incredible, thank you so much for sharing them. It is one of the places I would have loved to have visited but will be content seeing them through your camera lens. So enjoyable! I am sorry to read about your MS in this hot weather you are having. Hoping it calms down for you soon.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you. It was an incredible trip. MS is a blight but if you have to have an incurable disease there are worse ones about.
DeleteStunning and Beautiful photos, hope you are doing ok xx - ♥
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Thank you - on both counts.
DeleteI'm freezing cold now that I have seen those wonderful but rather chilly photographs. Now, where's my warm cardigan.....?
ReplyDeleteShammickite: They cool me down too- even though I know it wasn't cold there. Crisp, clean and beautiful.
DeleteYou never have to apologize for gorgeous photos like these, Sue! What a fabulous trip. I haven't given up on getting to Antarctica yet.
ReplyDeleteFundy Blue: Thank you. If you get the chance, DO IT. It really was incredibly beautiful.
DeleteIs that a walrus? It’s hilarious and adorable at the same time.
ReplyDeleteSnow is incredibly beautiful but I don’t like feeling cold. For you though, I wish the weather would as cold as you want it to be.
neena_,maiya: It is an Elephant Seal, blissed out on the beach. Sadly we won't be as cold as I would like it for months.
