Sunday Selections #826

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. Today I am going to show you different facets of last Sunday.

As is usual my day started early with a soft and gentle dawn.

The temperatures were not gentle.  It was -7C/19.4 F.  So naturally I went out to blow bubbles.

I had a wonderful time and loved seeing the shells the bubbles left behind when they finally burst.

When I finally came in I was greeted by this female King Parrot near the front door.

I came in because chilly weather is not kind to camera batteries and discovered I had been outside for an hour (and the temperatures were still firmly in the negative.  I know, I am not entirely sane.

And at the other end of the day (which was a little warmer) the sunset was spectacular so I rushed out again.

I hope you find colour and joy in your week(s) too.
Thank you for your good wishes for next week's doctor's appointment.  I am really hoping for answers and a time frame for action.

  1. Laura Eno - What a gorgeous sunset! Spectacular. And I’m so glad you got to make frozen bubbles. (Yes, you are a bit insane… but many of us are)
I envy your birds, so beautiful and abundant in your region. And big!
Crossing my fingers for positive answers and an action plan. Sending my love your way.

    1. Laura Eno: Sanity is over rated isn't it? I do love our birds and I am pretty certain that they watch us with as much interest as we watch them. An action plan and a time frame will be very welcome. Fingers crossed.

  2. In this heat and humidity I would love some frosty bubbles on my shoulders, I hope you have a great new week and all is well. Best of luck with the doctor.

    1. RasmaSandra: In the temperatures in which bubbles can be frozen you don't need them on your shoulders. And thank you.

  4. Every year I look forward to vicariously taking part in this festival of bubbles! Thank you, Sue. And I know you appreciate the cold weather.

    1. David M. Gascoigne: I do like the cold weather and bubbles are only part of the reason. We have been having some crisp, clear and beautiful mornings this week.

  5. That was a glorious sunset.
Love to see your bubbles. I haven't been able to make my own. Thinking of following this recipe this coming winter:
1 cup water, 2 tablespoons corn syrup, and 2 tablespoons dish soap. : )))
And I will need the right temperature, of course.

    1. contempladoraocidental: I just use dishwashing liquid - neat. I wonder why they don't work for you - you would certainly get the temperatures for it.

    1. roentare: They are. I am hoping (perhaps next month) for an even colder morning. In other winters I have had them last for several hours.

  11. My cousin in Mawson was telling me about the cold temperatures. But I don't think she has experimented with freezing bubbles like you have! I must remember to try this in six months time!

  13. I find I prefer the more intense colouring of sunsets over the softer dawns as I get older, maybe it has something to do with the day being over and I can lock my doors and turn the TV on.
Love the king parrot, was she waiting for food?
The fourth bubble photo, the collapsed one reminds me of a jellyfish.

    1. River: I can never decide whether I prefer dawn or dusk. I like them both. The king parrot had some apple but seemed to be interesting in just watching the mad woman with the camera.
The shells when the bubbles burst fascinate me.

  14. I'm amazed by your glorious sunrise and sunset shots. I love the subtle pink of the sunrise and the blazing orange of the sunset. Two very different sky shots.

Your bubbles turned out great. I even enjoyed seeing how the collapsed.

What a beautiful King Parrot. So good to see them flying free in your country.

Hope the doctor appointment gives you some much needed answers.

  16. Here in Bengaluru (south India) it doesn't get cold enough for snow. However, sometimes during rains we do get hailstones.
The King Parrot does look colourful as well as majestic.
Sunday Selections is a good idea.

  21. A -7ºC?. Una mica boja si estas! ;-)))
Tot i així, m'agrada veure les teves bombolles i sobretot aquesta posta de sol tan espectacular.
Els meus pensaments són amb tu.
    Aferradetes ben fortes, Sue.

  22. Dear EC
Thank you for the frost bubbles. It's always such a joy to see them and I have huge respect that you are committed to creating them at silly o'clock and at -7! That fiery sunset sky is beautiful (as is the parrot). The frost photos were very cooling and I need that at the moment, as it is far too hot for me here (although nothing compared to what Europe is suffering and what you suffer in your summer).
Best of luck with the doctor's appointment.
    Best wishes
    Ellie
