And it was brought to me by the lovely River .
I have chosen balloons (the big ones) because I love them to bits and because a balloon festival has just finished here. When I can I love to go and watch them being inflated and taking off, even if I am not flying. But this year I missed out - given his druthers the smaller portion sleeps until noon and the balloons are inflated at 6.30am. And this week has been cloudy every morning so I didn't have the heart to drag him out of bed for a maybe.
I was given not one but two balloon rides for a significant birthday a few years ago. They were truly lovely and I was super grateful that two sets of people dear to me thought I would love it. They were right. I think that ballooning is one of the few things which are actually as good as they look on television and/or movies. And because I suspect that I could no longer clamber into the basket they are memories to add to the cherished pile.

How did you know that one of my Things To Do Before I Die is to go for a hot air balloon ride? I think it just moved a few places up on the list! Maybe I need to hint at it a little more brazenly to my loved ones? Thanks for this post.
ReplyDeleteThose are awesome aerial photos of our Parliment Houses in Canberra and the surrounding landscape. Fantastic rainbow coloured balloon in the second photo :-).
ReplyDeleteTwo Tigers: It is an amazing experience. I went up with someone who was afraid of heights and very shortly into the flight he was elbowing people in the ribs to get a better vantage spot and view.
ReplyDeleteWindsmoke: Thank you - Canberra in one of its better seasons.
Great images! Love the 2nd one, looking into the balloon, all those great colours... but they're all good and the last one is lovely, looking down onto those autumn colours...
ReplyDeleteLove looking at them (glorious!)...from the ground and in pictures. Your basket mate aside, I could not imagine ever doing that! (I feel agitated just looking at rooftop views on TV. Literally.)
ReplyDeleteThis was a truly uplifting post!
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely! I've always wondered if it was as good as it looks, but I have a suspicion that it would be extremely chilly up there, and I don't like the thought of being underdressed and forced to stay there till my muscles seized up and my bones froze.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! Let's hope the shakes were indeed excitement!
Oh Wow, that looks like it would be heaps of fun. My Mum went on a balloon ride near Alice springs and she raved and raved about it,also a friend of mine who is a basket weaver has a dream of going to France and learning how to weave a balloon basket.
ReplyDeletethanks heaps for joining in :)c
Glorious pics and post! I admire those who go up, agree it looks magical, but the prospect of a wobbly basket and that flame above my head freak me right out!
ReplyDeleteI have just discovered this link into a remarkable woman's life and want to say - you were made for blogging, Elephant Child. And that photo of the inside of a balloon - glorious! Looking forward to much more... whinging, recipes, cats, books, adventuring, gardening... LIFE.
