Words For Wednesday

The lovely Delores at Under the Porch Light has been running this meme for a considerable period of time, week after week - even through the A to Z challenge.  Sadly she is having issues with her computer freezing on her (much as my brain does when faced with some of her words).  She has asked that someone take over on a temporary basis and I have stuck my hand up.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...
Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

This weeks prompts:
Call
Leg
Loving
Calculator
Hydrant
Want

And/or
Bag
Bruise
Scarf
Resolute
Float
Change

  1. It'll be Saturday before I can use the words in a post (regarding my London trip) EC. First thoughts are that I'll use the second batch, we'll see!

  4. She tossed her bag and scarf over the side of the bridge, to see if they would float; thinking, illogically, it might somehow numb her deeply bruised heart or give her hope.
Still, resolute, she stood... facing change in silence.

  5. I got a call that my loving Aunt had broken her leg, I really wanted to be there for her so I took out my calculator to see if I could afford to fly to see her when all of a sudden the hydrant in front of my home starting spurting water sky high so I ran outside to see what had happened.

  7. Here's my effort for today -

It was a close "call", but the little French bull dog was a smart "calculator" of distance. Lifting his short "leg", he didn't miss the fire engine-red "hydrant". For the "want" of another description he was a sharp shooter, never missing his mark! From his cocky turn of head it was obvious he was "loving" the look of admiration from the little lady Scotch terrier that strutted by as if on cue.

His owner stood by waiting somewhat impatiently. The light autumn breeze caused her silk "scarf" to "float" gently over her shoulder. The scarf hid the "bruise" on her neck. Clasping her overnight "bag" she was "resolute" in the crucial decision she’d made. It was time for a "change".

  9. Hi Sue Here's goes again with my 2 stories this week

My neighbour is away on holiday at present and I am in charge of looking after their dog. I am really LOVING the opportunity of taking her dog, Crackers for a walk every day. He is still quite young, very boisterous and loves long walks. I try to vary his walks so I study maps and I put the distances into my CALCULATOR so that I make sure, for me, I do not walk to far because I have a sore LEG. Very often, we walk through a caravan park to get to a beach and always he stops to lift his LEG at a fire HYDRANT before I give him the freedom of being off the lead and running after the ball I throw for him. I walk, he runs and never seems to tire out however when I feel my leg has had enough and I WANT to return home, he comes immediately when I CALL his name and just hope there is no one else around to hear such a stupid name for a dog!

It was a beautiful starry night as I walked round the deck on the Ocean Liner and as it got a little cooler I wrapped my SCARF round my shoulders. I took my camera out of its BAG and photographed the glorious sunset. I was very happy that I had made the decision to treat myself and have a complete CHANGE away from my busy business world. Suddenly and without warning, there was an enormous explosion and I was propelled overboard, along with half the ship and passengers. Flying debris kept coming through the air and I was hit on the head with a large piece of wood and it really painful and I knew there would be a huge BRUISE later. I had the presence of mind and the RESOLUTE to grab the wood just as it was about to FLOAT out of my grasp. There was pandemonium everywhere but I could see that the crew had managed to launch several lifeboats and one was heading for me. I think I must have passed out, probably due to the knock on my head because the next thing I remember was that I was in a warm bed in a small hospital.

  15. These 2 stories have been submitted by Margaret Adamson's friend Sue Fulcher from Northern Ireland.

No! don't bother to CALL, don't pick up the phone, just don't you worry about me at all!

I sat on the couch with my poor damaged, bruised LEG cradled on 2 cushions feeling really sorry for myself. Here I was in America, my friends out enjoying themselves and me stuck in the hotel.

It was the holiday of a lifetime. I was getting married and this was my last fling before domestic bliss settled like a blanket round my shoulders.
Weeks with a CALCULATOR, much scrimping and scraping made it possible. Four girls out on the razzle and LOVING it. Slightly tipsy, well perhaps a tad more than slightly, after all what else would you WANT on your final fling. No one, but no one pointed out the HYDRANT and I swear the thing jumped straight in to my path.

Well, I hit the ground in a huddle of pain and embarrassment. Legs all akimbo, bunny ears and 'getting married' sign hanging like ornaments after a hurricane. Blood everywhere and people telling me not to move, something might be broken. An ambulance suddenly appeared and despite my sobbing protests I was whisked off. More forms and 'yes, I did have insurance' Presumably the leg and I, broken or not would have been rudely ejected onto the sidewalk if insurance hadn't been forthcoming..

And so here I am, back in the hotel. Sitting on the couch, feeling sorry for myself, wondering what my so called friends are up to. But NO don't bother to pick up the phone, just don't you worry about me I'M FINE!!!!!!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I got nearer the house my steps slowed, my heart thumped and the dread mounted. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, held my BAG in front of me like a shield. A defence against what lay beyond the door. I put the key in the lock, it took several attempts but finally I turned it and pushed the door open......silence. Perhaps he was out, perhaps it was ok.

'Where the bloody hell have you been, I've been waiting for my fags. I told you 15 minutes, you've been gone 20! Where have you been? who have you been with?

Time slowed down and fist heading towards my stomach seemed to FLOAT towards me but not slow enough to let me move. Even so, that would have made him more angry and be worse for me. Better to stand and take it. I picked myself up and looking at him as he upended my bag, it's contents a riot of broken shopping on the floor. He grabbed his cigarettes, glared at me, shook his fist and shambled off into the smoke filled lounge, slamming the door behind him.

I looked in the mirror hanging in the hall, a worn out old woman looked back at me, a brightly coloured scarf pulled tight to hide the brightly coloured BRUISE, a reminder of the last time I hadn't got back on time. This old woman was only 32. It was so unfair but I was so scared. Scared to stay, scared to leave. He hadn't always been like this, or had he. I could no longer remember. My life had become filled with pain, disapproval and threat. I picked up the spilled, broken shopping and went into the kitchen. In a way he was right. I was 5 minutes late and yes, there was someone else. Someone who listened to me, didn't judge and softly held my hand as I cried my sadness out. I walked back down the hall, looked once more at the old woman in the mirror and saw with a certain amount of pride and satisfaction a stronger face looking back at me.

' Time for a CHANGE', my friend had said. I took another deep and RESOLUTE breath, opened the door, stepped out of my old life and into my new one. He wouldn't notice I'd gone until he wanted his tea and I would be long gone by then.

I left everything behind, everything, turned my face to the sun and walked away.

  16. I was out walking with my LOVING husband when I desperately had to pee. I lifted my LEG to a fire HYDRANT like I had seen our dog do 100 times. I fell!! My husband was fooling around with his CALCULATOR & wasn't aware of my fall until I screamed. "What do you WANT me to do?" he asked. I gave him the only logical answer I could, under the circumstances, "CALL 911 & lie about what happened!!"

  19. Came just on time to play. I gave a call to the doctor because I hurt my leg during a village raid. My doctor is a loving friend of dragons and of gold too. His bills are only according to the size of my wallet, I mean, my treasure. That's why he always need to use a calculator when he charges me. As part of his safety equipment, he has his own hydrant in his office. People wonder about it, as they don't know there is a dragon among his clients.

  21. Okay, here's mine, using both lists.
What a change, as if I were floating, but not, just loving this fast pace, a trot, so to speak when my scarf abruptly blows across my face. Still I conveniently miss running into a hydrant yet bruise my leg anyway when I take a call informing me that I've left my grocery bag at the office, and all I really want is to do is study my new calculator.

  23. The surf was up and the sun was warm. I was on my first vacation in years. N. Carolina! Oh my. And that water, I wanted to be out in it. So out into the ocean I went. I was in heaven.

The shark was hungry and wanted nothing more than to bag some fat tourist for lunch. Ah, that one, there, wearing a bright scarf out floating on the water. What an idiot. Like a beacon! Ha.

The shark changed direction quickly. He was resolute, determined as he made his final approach. First, he'd take the arm, hanging off that paddle board. Oh, he could taste it. There'd be no fight from this blob of flesh.

Oh gawd. A shark. Ok, control your breathing. And...and, what do I do? I know.

The shark's mouth opened over the arm. But suddenly, out of nowhere, came the other fist, delivering a bruising blow directly into his left eye. Wtf? This can't happen to me. I'm the master of the sea, not that ridiculous badly garbed fleshy animal. What if this gets out?

The shark raced off one direction, the tourist in the other.
