Sunday Selections #323

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  This week is a little bit more random.

I am sleeping abominably at the moment.  Pain is waking me often and I usually give up and get up around four.  One morning this week I trotted outside a bit before dawn to photograph the moon.  Or that was my intention anyway.

When I looked at the photo later I wondered whether it was the moon - or a UFO.  A little later the dawn was soft and gentle.

Autumn is finally here.  Hooray.  The arboreal fireworks (autumnal colour) are slow though.  So we headed down to the lake to see if it was more advanced there.

Not really.  Pretty, but not ablaze yet.  For some reason the trees which turn yellow are considerably more advanced that the red/orange/burgundy ones.

I liked the red berries though.  And the next tree which is making valiant efforts to change colour.

We stopped and admired  this golden corner on the way home.

And loved the tree outside my mother's old shopping centre.

We have been having beautiful days, and I don't think it will be long now before the trees turn.  Expect many more photos.  The lake was pretty anyway.  Very pretty.

The begonias continue to give me joy.

Some of the many bulbs we weakened and bought are in the ground.  When it is light planting will continue today.  And tomorrow.

And for those who celebrate - a Very Happy Easter.

  10. My but those begonias are striking, and the rest of your photos, so serene...as a kid, I loved the moon and regret that I see it less now. I'm sorry to hear of your pain and lack of sleep. That is an unfortunate circumstance I know all too well...I end up napping. Is there anything you find helpful?

We were visited by the remnants of Cyclone Cook this week - in the event it didn't hit our part of the country too badly, as the centre passed further east than expected. We did have several days of endless rain, however. It's a lovely warm day today, though. Strange weather!

I saw them as we whizzed by in a bus, no camera :( I need to get up into the hills for autumn colour photos.

    1. River: I love the begonia and that corner too. The corner is in the suburb I grew up in, and has always been beautiful. The manchurian pears along the lake edge will be spectacular in a week or so. And we will go and look. I hope you can get into the hills...

I hope things improve on the pain front. I have been sleeping badly too recently and it is so debilitating. Your photos are beautiful, as always. I love the multi-coloured tree - a liquidambar has the same sort of colours and reminds me of Rowntrees Fruit Gums sweets (UK readers will, I hope, know what I'm talking about, but I'm not sure whether you have these in Australia)

  32. Good luck on your autumn coming on time and normally because our spring here still has not arrived. Still the nights are cold and the days, if not still pouring, if we should see the sun, its still cold. This is not normal for an Oregon spring and probably will adversely affect Oregon agricultural products unless we see a sudden reversal. I will say the lack of warmth and missing sun have been terribly depressing. I don't know when we last hit 70 degrees where I live in Oregon, a some point last fall. I'm sorry to divert into such a rant about the dreary gray here. Perhaps I should invest in a sun lamp so as to pretend.

    1. Strayer: I like the temperatures in winter, but grey day after grey day can be depressing. Particularly for me if the grey days are lying and there is no rain. Which we always need.

  71. I'm sorry you are in pain and not sleeping well. I hope you get a chance to have a nap during the day. I've tried to take photos of the moon and they always come out like yours. Love all the colours in your photos.

  72. Your autumn colors are beautiful, and will be more and more beautiful with time.
And I like the sky and like and flowers.
I have had a long pause to write any comments.... I don't know why, maybe I have too much something to do, and I'm a little tired. I hope you are now well.
