Words for Wednesday

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Computer issues led her to bow out for a while.  The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

This month the prompts will be posted here.

This weeks prompts are:

  1. river
  2. dashing
  3. free
  4. shrug
  5. interest
  6. naive
And/or
  1. light
  2. wax
  3. winter
  4. bucket
  5. disillusioned
  6. super
And an image.
This beauty, which is a hand-made paper cut-out was given to the smaller portion as he left his hotel in Datong.  He invariably meets with kindness in his travels.

PS:  I am moving off topic a bit here - but it is still connected with writing.  Some of you will have read my last entry into the WEP challenge.  I won it.  Which shocked and amazed me.  And today I have a guest post up at the WEP site.  If you get the chance, please check it out  here - and consider entering the next challenge yourselves.

  2. she let her dog go and he went dashing along the river free as a bird. a little further down the river sat a man fishing she asked him if the fish were biting, he just gave a shrug. she was naive about the ways of the fisherman not realizing standing up and talking would surely scare the fish away.

    3. Ah, the joy of letting the dog run loose, spending time on the river. Yes, be quiet around the fisherman.

  5. Peter shrugged his shoulders. Bucket list? Only the seriously naive had them. He had never had any interest in planning for the future. The river of life was a turbulent, and dreamers who ignored that were in danger of being dashed against turbulent rocks. He knew. None better.
Janet sighed. It is a free world Peter, but I really don't know why you have set up a permanent camp in the winter of discontent. What has made you so disillusioned? You weren't happy alive, you aren't happy dead.
Guardian angels are supposed to see the light. Not you. Perhaps you should have opted to become a werewolf instead when the opportunity was offered. Waxing and waning would fit your natural rhythm. You could sulk when the light of the moon waned (much as you are now) and revel in super strength and energy at the full moon.
I have never heard of a guardian angel being sacked, but you may be the first...

    4. Great job! Heck, each year, some doctor has to graduate last in his class, so why should it be any different for guardian angels?

Congratulations on winning the WEP challenge! (You definitely deserved it.) (NOW do you believe you're a terrific writer?) Your guest post about being an appreciator is terrific, too.

    5. Susan: Thank you. And no, the writer label still isn't one I feel at all comfortable wearing.

  6. Hi EC....Thanks for this weeek's words...

"With a DISILLUSIONED SHRUG, RIVER headed off, DASHING out through the foyer’s revolving door without a backward glance.

The SUPER looked on with INTEREST wondering what had caused the NAIVE young man to leave in such a hurry. He then noticed a crowd had began to gather across the busy city street.

The early morning LIGHT filtered through the intricate, decorative pattern on the building’s front window, but if the weather predictions were correct unseasonal WINTER rain was due to BUCKET down within a couple of hours.

Without lifting her head, a hotel cleaner continued to rub WAX into the antique table in the front lounge, seemingly oblivious to the excitement unfolding outside.

Believing others were FREE to act whichever way they chose, the quiet, young woman knew it would never be that way for her. Even after altering her appearance, she always kept her head down, hoping not to draw attention. Her life had been different. She believed it always would be. The shadows of her past remained, taunting and haunting.

Others might be free to do whatever they felt like doing, at their own free will, but she knew the cult leaders were still searching for her - they would never give up."
