Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. We did get to the Museum in our busy week but the PC is behaving badly so I will save those photos for a while. Instead I am sharing some of the autumnal colour in our neighbourhood. It has not only been surprisingly warm (until the last couple of days) it has also been very, very dry. The yellow colours have suffered. They are not as bright as usual and tend to go brown and fall very quickly.
I am finishing with a Tree Dahlia. Despite a couple of cold days we have not yet had a frost, so they are coming into triumphant bloom.
I do enjoy Aboreal Fireworks. They are definitely a decided plus to living somewhere which gets Autumn.

Aw fall has arrived down under. I guess I better start worrying about Christmas. Just joking. We are starting to heat up here.
ReplyDeletedonna baker: Christmas? Wash your mouth out. We are, finally, getting a little cool weather though that is not true of all of Australia.
DeleteWow! I'm first to comment. Makes me so happy, EC. If this is poor color for your part of the world, then please don't forget to show me how much more lovely it can get. Just delightful, and I LOVE your pretty tree dahlia at the last. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you. Ordinarily the gold blazes from every corner. This year this blaze has been quick and soon extinguished. I was very happy that the tree dahlia bloomed before frost cuts them down. The ones in the back yard haven't yet, so I am hoping.
DeleteThe Autumn colors took me by surprise, but of course you are on the other side of the planet...and upside down! :-)
ReplyDeleteNow I have that Men At Work song stuck in my head.
Sandi: No, no, no. It is you who are upside down. Isn't it? And there are worse ear-worms than Men At Work.
DeleteI'M upside down?? Aaaaaaa! 😱
DeleteSandi: Somedays I think the whole world is upside down.
DeleteBeautiful autumn colours, I love them.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: So do we.
DeleteArborial fireworks! Perfect description of autumn.
ReplyDeleteI suspect comments will bung-up your emails even further...
dinahmow: Thank you. And no, the server is simply refusing to release some comments to me - yours included.
DeleteSome of those colours wouldn’t be out of place here in Ontario. The fall colours are such a spectacle here that people come from all over the world to witness it.
ReplyDeleteDavid Gascoigne: I have heard about your autumnal displays - and would LOVE to see them.
DeleteBeautiful fall colours. For now... I will be enjoying spring colours. Finally!
ReplyDeleteCaterina: I am glad that spring has finally reached you. Enjoy it.
DeleteLovely autumn color.. But I agree Catarina, we will enjoy now spring color after white winter in the other side of the world.
ReplyDeleteWish you happy next week.
orvokki: Your spring looks beautiful, but I am happy to welcome autumn. A busy week ahead but I hope productive. I hope yours is lovely.
DeleteI love autumn colors and you have a gorgeous selection - actually, you have wondrous colors in your garden no matter the season! Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: It is a beautiful time of year. The garden at home looks at its best in Autumn and Spring. We won't talk about the sweaty season.
DeleteThird last is a weeping birch? Brilliant tree dahlia photo.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: The third last is (I think) a weeping peach in the neighbours yard. The cockatoos descend on it. Thank you re the tree dahlia shot.
DeleteYou go autumn, we cheer spring. I wish it were warmer here, though.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I would gladly send some warmth your way. In exchange for rain.
Delete"The falling leaves drift by my window
ReplyDeleteThe falling leaves of red and gold..."
There is beauty in every season....and you have captured the beauty of autumn.
I hope the coming week treats you well, EC....cuddles to Jazz. :)
Lee: We will have an influx of tradies this week. And next. Poor Jazz will NOT be happy. And I will no doubt pay for his misery.
DeleteAha! So that is why Jazz is eyeing off the closets...looking for a safe place to hide for the duration. :)
DeleteLee: I am already feeling guilty, even before the work starts. Though he got a preview on Friday when our new gutters were delivered. Not a happy chappy.
DeleteJust so wild to think of autumn when we are basically hitting summer right now.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: Summer? You are welcome to it.
DeleteHi EC, I enjoyed this tribute to autumn. I am also revelling in it, especially after the long hot summer.
ReplyDeletecatmint: It is so very welcome isn't it? And poor Perth is still sweltering in temperatures in the 30s.
DeleteAutumn is such an incredible time of year. The foliage is almost shameful in their glory.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: Shameful? That is a perspective I have never considered. Triumph and glorious is closer to the mark. Going out in a blaze of glory.
DeleteGorgeous colours, and the Tree Dahlia is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteOur autumn has been too warm to bring out the colours of the leaves to any great extent!
Tradies? Sounds interesting...
Alexia: Our autumn has been largely warm and dry too. Only in the last few days have we had cooler weather and we are yet to have our first frost.
DeleteThe Tradies will be replacing our guttering and down pipes. A job which has been postponed for too long. After that the roof will be restored. Expensive and necessary.
As our trees are turning green, yours are beginning those fabulous fall colors. I've always been fascinated by the difference in the seasons from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeletemxtodis123: I really like being able to enjoy two seasons at once.
DeleteYour Tree Dahlia is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSounds like it's time to do the rain dance.
Enjoy your weekend.
Sandra Cox: Some parts of Australia got more rain than they wanted/needed over the last few days. And we got our usual very small incontinent pigeon dribble.
DeleteVery colorful.
ReplyDeleteJamie Ghione: It is. Lots (most?) of our native trees are evergreens but it is lovely to see the deciduous display.
DeleteYou find such beauty in your neighborhood! Fall leafs are so colorful but I know we need the rain.
ReplyDeleteKim Standard: Thank you. I am a beauty addict and don't have to look far. Some rain would be more than welcome though.
DeleteI LOVE your autumn colours! :D
ReplyDeleteWe don't have much tree colouring here, the warm weather carried on too long. Leaves are going straight to brown on many trees.
River: The warm weather has muted our colours too, but I am very grateful for what we have. Sadly my tree dahlia was snapped off by the wind last night. I am lucky that it bloomed - and hope the ones in the back yard do before frost kills them.
DeleteThat tree dahlia is stunning!
ReplyDeletekylie: It was. Sadly a wind storm last night snapped it off. Better luck next year. And fingers crossed for the ones in the back yard.
DeleteI saw my first and only tree dahlia in the Big Sur region of California. Even my botanist trained sister in law didn't know what it was but I found my answer on your blog. Fall colors..pretty but to me it means encroaching winter
ReplyDeleteSue in Italia/In the Land of Cancer: I remember that you found out about tree dahlias here. Our winter is much milder than yours and I love it.
DeleteAll those lovely Fall colors make me smile and they are so amazing. Hope you're doing well! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteRO: They are lovely aren't they? I am busy, busy, busy but ok. How about you?
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI discovered the word Xylophilia this April - I think we are both xylophiles. The close-up of the first leaf is my favourite - beyond gorgeous!
Nilanjana Bose: Definitely a xylophile. A confirmed tree hugger from way back. I was fascinated at the range of colours in the liquid amber leaf - and love its shape too.
DeleteI love all of your colors--just stunning. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. It is such a vivid time of year. Hugs gratefully received and reciprocated.
DeleteSo pretty! We get very little color of this type in the autumn, although we have our fall blooms.
ReplyDeleteThank you for identifying the tree for me that’s on my blog. My knowledge of plants is generally limited to “tree”, “bush”, “grass”, “flower of some kind”, and “probably a weed.”
messymimi: My knowledge of plants is not what it should be either. We have a silk tree in the yard which is how I knew.
DeleteI’m with you on the autumn fireworks EC. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: I am. I hope you are revelling in Spring.
DeleteSuch a riot of colour! Wonderful photos as always. Hope you're well. J would have loved these shots.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn McBride: Thank you. J loved the natural world didn't she? And I still miss her. You, knowing her so much better, must miss her more.
DeleteIt’s interesting that your weather is opposite ours. The path to our barn is as lush as a terrarium.
ReplyDeleteRick Watson: I like being able to enjoy two seasons simultaneously. Lush? A rarity here.
DeleteHello dear EC!
ReplyDeleteLove all photos of the autumn colour in your neighbourhood!
Wishing you a lovely Sunday.
Hugs to you!
sonia a. mascaro: Thank you. It is a very pretty time of year.
DeleteThe photo of your cat in the garden is adorable!
ReplyDeletesonia a. mascaro: They both loved waltzing through the daffodils. Jewel is gone and Jazz doesn't go into the garden much without her.
DeleteThank you so much for your lovely gifts of nature, it's still a bit tacky around here, sadly. Spring has arrived, not all my tulips survived (that really breaks my heart) they were gifts from a dear friend who on every visit she dug them right up from her garden and sent me home with them. She's watching from above I know. Still we make do with what we have and thank goodness we have another day before us right! Enjoy your week and take good care.
ReplyDeleteKaren S.: I have some plants like that, and they are very, very special. I am so sorry that some of your tulips didn't reappear. Hugs.
DeleteI love autumn’s colors but I am more of a spring person - this year especially.
ReplyDeleteStarting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe: I like all of the seasons. Except summer. I hope your spring is lovely.
DeleteJust nicely into Spring here but Autumn is definitely my favourite time of the year.
ReplyDeleteonly slightly confused: It is such a vibrant, vivid time of year isn't it?
DeleteJust getting happy with it being spring, so you fall pictures make me cold...cause after fall comes the dreaded winter. Though, the fall colors are very pretty. I liked fall better when I was younger, I find Spring and Summer are to my liking as I age. Bones hurt less when it's warm, lol.
ReplyDeletesandy: I hear you, but my bones ache in the heat. So summer is not my friend.
DeleteBeautiful colours of autumn.
ReplyDeleteMerle..............
Merlesworld: Thank you. I really like this time of year, and my city does it well.
DeleteGorgeous colours of autumn you have captured.
ReplyDeleteMargaret-whiteangel: Thank you. Your state should get some lovely colours too.
DeleteI love the glorious colours of autumn, and the cooler weather. I wonder what it would be like to have only two seasons, spring and fall?
ReplyDeleteThose leaves are striking!
jenny_o: When heat is not your friend the cooler weather AND the colours seem like a big bonus don't they? Our winters are milder than yours and I like them too.
DeleteIt is lovely that even you live in a hot country a lot of the time you still manage to have the seasons. The colours are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson: Not all of Australia has four seasons. I am very grateful to live in a part which does.
DeleteEC, you get the most comments! What can I add to what everyone has said. Yes, beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteBill: I am very lucky aren't I? And the comments frequently make the post.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI love the autumn colours - really beautiful. I really hope you get some rain soon.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. I hope for rain too, but selfishly not for the next few days - our gutters are being replaced.
DeleteIt's lovely to see so many colorful trees
ReplyDeleteSmall Kucing: It is isn't it? I do love trees.
Deletelook at all the beautiful fall colors, wonderful
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: Isn't it? A joy.
DeleteBeautiful to see leaves in different colors:)
ReplyDeleteWeekend-Windup: I think so too.
DeleteWell we had a lot of sun yesterday, but now it will drop back into the 70's and 60's for the week again. While we are sputtering into summer, you are doing so into winter. But your colors are still hanging on and look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: We had a teeny-weeny frost this morning. And it seems that the cool nights at least are here for a while. Yay.
DeleteI do love fall colors. So pretty! And that tree dahlia is spectacular! I want one! No sure it would grow up here though. Here in Maine it's spring and the leaves are finally coming out and things are greening up :)
ReplyDeletemshatch: If dahlias grow in your climate I suspect tree dahlias will too. I am always amazed that they can grown from the ground to over ten feet tall in a single season before being cut down by the frost.
DeleteFirst of all, you take the BEST photographs. Secondly, I kind of cringed when I saw the fall colors ONLY because winter follows. Enjoy the beauty of fall.
ReplyDeleteTeresa
T.Powell Coltrin: I like winter - which gives me another reason to celebrate autumn.
DeleteBad PC. Bad.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of course are as lovely as always:)
Have a fun, productive Monday.
Sandra Cox: The PC is still misbehaving. Sigh. Monday was busy, and today will be too. Productive business though.
DeleteYour autumn is spectacular! Those reds and oranges are amazing.
ReplyDeletecleemckenzie: Thank you. I love this time of year. Crisp, clean and lovely.
DeleteAutumn is my favourite season! Lovely muted autumn tones in your shots.
ReplyDeleteLady Fi: Thank you. It is one of my favourite seasons too. And an autumn dawn is a lovely thing.
DeleteDear Sue, you have such a way with coining words and phrases like "Aboreal Fireworks" for the changing colors of Fall. You do this often! It's a gift I think. One I don't have and one I appreciate in others. Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee: Thank you. I have a deep and abiding love of words.
DeleteThose close-up leaf pictures are my favorites in this batch - a beautiful mix of colors.
ReplyDeleteHave a relaxing week, EC.
Rawknrobyn: Thank you. Relaxing week? Hysterical laughter. It is very, very busy but so far productive.
DeleteHi EC - gosh I am 'way late' ... but love the photos you've given us - just glad it is coming into early Summer here ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: You are welcome whenever you come by. And never too late. Enjoy your early summer.
DeleteWhat a riot of colour in all your photos. Every season has it's good points, but nothing beats the changing colours in autumn.
ReplyDeleteLL Cool Joe: It is a lovely time of year isn't it? Really lovely - and I am revelling in the cooler temperatures too.
DeleteI do love the colours of autumn, the brilliant reds and yellows are like paint pots thrown randomly around the suburbs.
ReplyDeleteMy tree dahlias are blooming, too!
Jayne: Ours bloomed in the nick of time. It was snapped in a wind-storm over the weekend and this morning we had our first frost. I still have hopes for the more sheltered ones in the back yard. Hopes, but not high hopes.
DeleteYes the trees near us are not putting on such a good show this year... the cooler weather is nice after the heat of summer but really I prefer moderate temperatures any time of year. I'd love to grow a tree dahlia one day.
ReplyDeleteAnna: If I am not mistaken you get less frost than we do and might have more consistent success with tree dahlias.
DeleteYou've got some great leaf shots here, EC.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Thank you.
DeleteLovely colors and textures.
ReplyDeleteAuthor R. Mac Wheeler: We live in a beautiful world.
DeleteThe colours of the trees are lovely. So strange to think that you are experiencing autumn in the southern half of the world while we in the north are desperate for spring! But good news.... the grass is now green and the trees are starting to show baby leaves, somewhat later than usual. And there's a skunk digging up grubs in the grass just outside my back window!
ReplyDeleteShammickite: I have been hanging out for cooler weather and some parts of Australia still are. I have also been hanging out for rain, and some places have had too much. I would really, really like some global weather moderation.
DeleteEnjoy the cooler temperatures and the beautiful change of colours!! It's so weir thinking, you are in Autumn right now! LOL! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMagic Love Crow: I am loving the cooler weather. Others in the household (Jazz) are not.
Deleteweir is suppose to be weird! LOL!
ReplyDeleteMagic Love Crow: How nice to know that other people suffer from finger dyslexia.
DeleteAutumn is one of my favorite seasons. So many gorgeous colors. The earth is very showy for both of us right now- just the opposite ends of the spectrum. Lots of gorgeous changes happening right in front of our eyes. :) Enjoy! Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS ~Jess: Nature's palette is spectacular isn't it? As are her galleries.
DeleteSuch lovely fall colors. While your leaves are falling our lilacs are in full bloom.
ReplyDeleteRasma Raisters: In the fullness of time I hope our lilacs thrive too. There is beauty in every season.
DeleteSuch wonderful Autumn (Fall) colours.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Autumn is one of my favourite times of year. Such a vibrant and stunning display.
DeleteI love autumn, too. So amazing that our seasons are opposite. I always love to see your photos of the changing seasons like that.
ReplyDeleteLynn: As we swelter in the sweaty season I have so often been grateful for cooling images from your side of the world. The opposite seasons are something which pleases me mightily.
Delete
