Words for Wednesday

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Computer issues led her to bow out for a while.  The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

The prompts will be here this month but are provided by Margaret Adamson, and her friend Sue Fulcher.  The prompts  will also include photographs taken by Margaret's friend Bill Dodd

Sadly Sue is unwell and Margaret is very, very busy so neither of them are likely to use their prompts this month.

Here are this week's prompts, which this week are photos taken by the talented Bill.

And/or

Have fun.

  1. Your secret is safe with me Bobby. I will never tell anyone that it was your bark (definitely worse than your bite) which smashed that window. Try as you might you just couldn’t reach that high note. It was a quackingly good party though, and the acoustics in that disused building were amazing.

    6. Perfect! I rambled on too long and wish I had done a short grouping of words like you did.

    7. @Elephant's Child: This is great. I like how you put these two images into a story. I like that you used the word 'quacking.'

      Have a lovely day.

  2. This is my 1st story from the 1st photographs.

Archie, I think it was a big mistake us coming back to see where we had first met and fall in love over 50 years ago The warehouse where we weaved the linen was such a happy place even through the work was long and tiring.

Just look at it now, windows broken, rust everywhere, and the rain pours in through the roof.

Well Mable, perhaps you are right but I just want to tell you even through this building has lost its sparkle and is now abandoned, my love remains as strong and loving as all those years ago and to me you looks as pretty today as I first clapped eyes on you when I saw you at your loom.

    1. Margaret Birding For Pleasure: This is lovely, and I do like Archie's positive attitude. And his love which is more lasting than the factory.

    2. Nothing stays exactly the same, that doesn't mean love has to grow cold. Very well said!

  3. Here goes. 2nd story, 2nd photograph

Bertie, you really will have to start eating again. You are going to be ill otherwise.

Gertrude, you don’t understand, Mr Henry meant everything to me, I miss him so much, it hurts me all over.

Would it help if you talked about it, sometimes a problem shared is a problem halved.

You see Gertrude, when no one else would have me at the pound and I heard people laughing at my pointy ears, Mr Henry took pity on me, adopted me and from that moment, I became his faithful friend. We would go everywhere together and have such adventures.

Then quite suddenly he had a heart attack and now he is gone and my life seems pointless.

But Bertie, I also am your friend and I heard my mistress Clare say recently she would love a well behaved dog to take for walks. I am sure she would love you as much as Mr Henry did.

Now if you just will sit up like a good dog and look less dejected, I will go and ask her.

    3. @Margaret Birding For Pleasure: For some reason I want to tie your first story with the second one. They seem to go together.

  4. "Don't worry Stud. It happens to everyone."

"Grrrrarfff." Stud's tears fall slowly onto blades of grass.

"We'll try again in the morning. My quacker can't wait."

Stud's demeanor shifts. Head raised, he barks in his most dogged tone, "ARRRRRFFF! AAARRRFFF!"

  8. Going away from dark humor:

"Okay, I'm sorry, Butch. It was an accident," Waddle quacked. Butch groaned, covering his face with paws. "I just didn't know your testicles were still there."

    1. My brother Don was driving the tractor down the road when he saw a field of cows and one bull. A goose had taken up residence there until his wing healed. He kept trying to dig out grains from the manure. Bull didn't like that, so he chased the goose off. After a few tries, the goose sneaked under the bull and nipped his testicles. The bull chased him a few time, with the goose repeated. Finally, the bull gave up, goose ate fine.

    2. Susan Kane: Ouch. Years back I was visiting a friend with three small boys. There were falls. There were bruises. There were tears. The father (and my partner) pretty much ignored it - until one of the boys fell on his testicles. Both men rushed to his side - with identical looks of concern.

  26. Those are both great photos to inspire writing. The first one took me back to childhood as there was a big factory in our neighborhood that always had broken windows in it. Probably due to the errant stones of teenagers walking by from the area high school, I suppose. I never understood why people thought it was okay to vandalize someone else's property, not even when I was very young.

  28. Dear EC, the second photograph reminded me of what's happening here in the United with regard to the presidential election. Some of us are holding are head high--like the duck. We seem to have an air of superiority. Perhaps of vindication. The dog would be the Republicans who grieve the results of the election. For myself, I want to find a way to get the duck quacking and the dog barking in chorus, finding the middle C that connects them. We are so in the grip of partisanship and I am a part of it. All of us need to look within ourselves for the quacking or the barking we can do in chorus. Peace.

    1. Dee: How I wish that there was a LOT more harmonising. The world over. I can totally see your take on Bill's photo and I grieve for your country (and see similarities in my own).

    2. I live in a very red, rural area. Today I saw that one of the people who had been flying several tRump flags was flying the U.S. flag upside down and I found myself quite appalled. Much though I loathe tRump and refused to ever refer to him as president I never once considered flying the flag upside down because of my dislike for that dreadful man. Although it's a peaceful form of protest, there's something that doesn't sit right with me about it.
