Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. I am continuing my celebration of Spring this week (and probably next week too). My city has an annual flower festival to celebrate Spring (Floriade). Covid largely curtailed it for the last two years but it is on again this year.
The site taken over by Floriade is a short walk from the city centre. Instead we chose to walk to it along the shores of the lake. Come walk with us - and revel in the riotous colours. Just for a change there will be lots of photos.
I think I live in a very pretty city, and I love the native critters that also call it home.
These water lilies floated on a pond near the start of Floriade. I suspect they are illuminated at night.
The kangaroo and joey statues are permanent fixtures. And much loved.
Lots of colour. There are patterns planted into each bed, but the only way you can see them is if you go up on the Ferris Wheel. So up we went.
You could see the patterns but for some reason the colours were much more vivid on the ground - so we came down again.
For garden splendour I prefer Tulip Top Gardens but am very, very glad that it isn't an either/or thing and I can see both. Floriade is packed with shops. You can buy snacks, meals, clothing, chutney, paintings and even a few garden implements. As usual I stopped on the way out and bought some fridge magnets which I am happy to post world wide. If you would like one let me know in the comments (or by email). If I don't already have your address please send that to me by email too. I only bought a few so it is a case of first in, best dressed.
I hope your week is packed with colour and vibrancy too.
I am wishing you a beautiful and relaxing spring dear! As beautiful as your photos here. I like them all. The flowers are so sharp! The White Castle Tower by the water side is very expressive. I'm wishing you all the best friend
ReplyDeleteCloudia: Thank you. I am enjoying Spring. The White Castle Tower (apt name) is our National Carillon which you will find featured in my Out of the Shadows post which you will find Here
DeleteI walked with you and I loved it. So much colour, so many things to see... Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCaterina: It is a lovely area isn't it? I always find it hard to remember just how close the city centre is.
DeleteYou're right - it was hard to even see the flowers from that height.
ReplyDeleteLots of beautiful colors.
Alex J. Cavanaugh: In other years the colours have been much more vivid from the Ferris Wheel. The day? Early in the season? I know not.
DeleteLove all the color! I noticed the fountain in the Ferris Wheel too. Does it run all the time? How high is it shooting?
ReplyDeleteMike: Lots and lots of colour. That fountain is the Captain Cook Memorial Jet. It runs from about ten to two each day (wind permitting). It shoots up to about 152 metres in the air and we are told that the water emerges at 260 kilometres an hour.
DeleteBeautiful! Thank you for sharing Floriade with us again this year. It's lovely to see the fresh spring greens and sparkling water. I particularly love the water lily "floats"!
ReplyDeleteWe're still drought-ridden here (no measurable rain for 3 months) and the fall flowers are struggling to bloom even with regular watering. Hoping our rainy season comes soon...
Diane Henders: The floats were great weren't they? It really is a lovely setting for a flower festival. Still in drought? My heart goes out to you. We have known many and they are dispiriting and deadly. I do hope you get meaningful rain soon.
DeleteThank you. Mid-October is usually the "official" start of the rainy season, so we're hanging on with hope.
DeleteDiane Henders: I so hope that your hopes are realised. Soon.
DeleteA lovely colourful array of photos. It's many a long and short years since I've been up in a ferris wheel.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the coming week, too, EC...take good care. :)
Lee: It is a colourful event. If it weren't for Floriade is would be many years since I have been up in a Ferris Wheel too. I hope you and the furry overlords have a great week.
DeleteSo lovely Sue and the colours brighten my day as we head into late autumn here. I admire your getting on board the Ferris. Last time I was on one (and I used to love them) I felt nauseous and dizzy and vowed never to get on again. And PS how do you pronounce Floriade? Is the e silent?
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: This is a baby wheel. As you know nausea is almost a constant here, but it wasn't made any worse. The e in Floriade is silent.
DeleteA lovely stroll, and I had only to scroll. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a 'golden October', Sue.
Sean Jeating: I am glad you enjoyed out stroll/scroll.
DeleteYour pictures are all so incredibly spirit-lifting, and delightful to contemplate. I love the permanent roo statues, and the ferris wheel adventure. Sending you lots of gratitude for the excursion. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: You are right. It is a spirit lifting adventure. I am very happy to take you with me.
DeleteWow what a fabulous collection of photos - the flowers are stunning... so colourful and bright.
ReplyDeleteI would love to walk along the shores of the lake - it really is beautiful. What a great day you must have had!
Alexia: When you finally get to Canberra, early Spring would be a lovely time.
DeleteWhat a beautiful collection of tulip garden photographs.
ReplyDeleteroentare: Thank you.
DeleteYou certainly live in a beautiful city and the flowers are so plentiful. What beauty to take in. I would find it hard to stay indoors. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos. \
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julia
Julia: We had a wet and grey winter, and getting out in the Spring sunshine is a treat. A little later in the year I at least will be hunkered down inside again.
DeleteI'm also glad you get to see both and post the photos of both for us to see.
ReplyDeleteMy photos will be over here.
messymimi: We are glad we saw both too. I am looking forward to seeing your selections shortly.
DeleteLinda Starr here, love the black swans and those colorful waterlily sculptures are the cat's meow.
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: We love the black swans too - though they are bolshy beasts. The waterlily blow ups are lovely aren't they?
DeleteThank you for the lovely walk. I agree, you do live in a beautiful city. I'd love to live there!
ReplyDeleteIf those water lilies do light up at night, they must be a gorgeous sight!
Many, many thanks for providing us with photos from near and far. May your week be serene and full of wonder.
River Fairchild: It is a planned city, and quite a lot of people think it is boring. I am glad - it keeps them away. I am far too lazy to go out at night to see the illuminated lilies but agree that they would be beautiful.
DeleteI hope your week is wonderful.
I love your lake and the bronze kangaroos and that galah too! It's a shame the colours got washed out by being up high, but even so, a trip on a ferris wheel is always fun. I'll pass on the magnets, my fridge is fully covered.
ReplyDeleteRiver: No one wants the magnets this year. Sigh. The lake is always a treat and I agree about the roo family and the galahs.
DeleteSend me one or two, I can make space or give them to neighbours.
DeleteRiver: Will do. I will post them towards the end of this week. I hope to only make one trip to the post office.
DeleteEC these photos are just magic, love them and thanks.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: I rescued you from spam yet again. Blogger seems to dislike you. Floriade is a wonderful festival isn't it. Smiles are the order of the day.
DeleteBeautiful Spring! I'd love it there as well! Oh yes--- I rescued her from the spam as well. Weird!
ReplyDeleteBill: I am enjoying your season too. Isn't it weird the way that blogger targets some innocent bloggers?
DeleteWhat beauty you shared with us this week, dear Sue. That seems to be a very popular event. I am in awe of all your photos. Amazing views from the top of that garden. Lots of colors and patterns to see up close, too. Thank you for taking us with you for this fun festival. BTW, you can NEVER have too many photos for me. I love them all.
ReplyDeleteBleubeard and Elizabeth: Thank you. It is a wonderful festival and attracts visitors from across Australia - though we try and go when visitor numbers are low. I suspect that you are nearly alone in thinking/saying that I can never have too many photos, but appreciate your kind words.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteThank you for this lovely colourful post. I do like that roo and joey sculpture. It is wonderful to be able to wallow in the joy of Spring blooms. Thank you for taking us along. Beautiful!
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: And wallow is what we did. The roo and joey are lovely aren't they? This year, like other years I watched as a small child hugged them.
DeleteHi EC - wonderful selections ... I'll be back to admire each pic ... and wish it was Spring here!! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I like autumn too and would happily experience yours. Thank you.
DeleteHi EC - you're welcome to swap places with me for a few months?! I agree your city looks to be stunning and full of interest: I'd love to visit sometime, probably unlikely - but always hope.
DeleteForgive me but I'm not going to others' blogs to do WFW ... probably mean of me - but way too many other things going on ... so very happy when the words are here.
Enjoy the coming of Spring before it gets too warm - looking forward to Sundays though - cheers Hilary
Hilary Melton-Butcher: I will very happily swap places with you in a few months. We will miss you at Words for Wednesday, but I hope your busyness is productive and fun.
DeleteLovely photos. It's still colourful here as autumn is kicking in. Still a few flowers knocking about and the leaves are changing too.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plastic Mancunian: Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. I do delight in the cooler days/nights and revel in the changing colours of the leaves.
DeleteLovely series of pictures, Sue. My recollection of Canberra is certainly of a beautiful city, my favourite spot being the botanical gardens which I visited several times. As for fridge magnets, one doesn't wish to be greedy, but if you have one left.............
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I am more than happy to send you a fridge magnet and you are the first one to express any interest. I am not surprised you love the Botanic Gardens which get better every year. I suspect the Arboretum would meet with your approval too.
DeleteSuch pretty flowers. Would love to see those water lillies all lite up at night. Tulips......have always been a favoriite. I don't have many left anymore. The squirrles have eaten them or tansplanted them elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteSandy: I do like tulips too. It is the cockatoos that rip them up and destroy them here - and the occasional human walking past.
DeleteOoooh!!! Look-a them colours! Life in all her glory!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been walking for a few days, this is a wonderful reminder to get out and WALK.
Thank you :-)
neena maiya (guyana gyal): Walking (slowly) is my favourite form of exercise. And there are always things to marvel at. A busy day here today, but hopefully tomorrow...
DeleteA post full of glorious colour, what a delight.
ReplyDeleteI think you were very brave to go up on the Ferris Wheel, My head and heights don't go together well at all :)
Happy October, have a good week.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. No bravery here. I don't mind heights. Claustrophobia on the other hand does bring me problems.
DeleteIt's so beautiful EC. Glad you made it through the winter and into spring. I hope your summer is not too hot.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Our winter is wimpy. And this year's was wet. Spring is lovely (though also damp). I hear you on hoping that summer is not tooo hot.
DeleteOh I do love all your photos from the events you visit! I am jealous all over again!
ReplyDeleteAnne in the kitchen: Thank you. My apparently boring city has lots of things for me to delight in.
DeleteI love that you find so many beautiful things to take pictures of and share.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: I am a beauty addict. I am very glad to hear that others enjoy the beauty I find and share.
DeleteThe kangaroo and joey sculpture is beautiful, especially poignant as I've just been listening to my youngest daughter being interviewed on ABC radio about the horrors of kangaroo killing, zoonotic disease and the heartbreaking treatment of joeys. She wrote a letter cosigned by 23 (I think) other organisations/individuals that has resulted in the RSPCA stopping their sale of kangaroo products. I'm thrilled! And your flower shots have added beauty to that too. I'm not sure if you have any fridge magnets left but a friend of mine truly deserves a random act of kindness and I'm wondering whether you'd consider sending one to her, not to me.
ReplyDeleteActually, that is a bit too cheeky to ask when you have offered it to your many awesome followers. But you've made me think that I should send her something myself, so thank you for the prompt to do that.
DeleteKim: Good for your daughter. Our kangaroo culls infuriate and dismay me. I am happy to send a magnet to your friend - and have just sent you an email asking for her details.
DeleteOH MY WORD that circular floral display is spectacular. All your images are bright and vibrant, Thanks for sharing and thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteJo: Spring is a vibrant time of the year. One that I am happy to share. Nice to see you here.
DeleteWhat a glorious celebration of color and flowers! I see why you love both events and it truly is good that you don't have to choose one over the other.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this extravaganza of beauty!
(Gini and I weathered Hurricane Ian in good shape. A lot of cleanup to do but no major damage.)
Wally: I am glad to hear that you and Gini got out of Hurricane Ian relatively lightly. So many didn't.
DeleteAren't I lucky (and greedy) that I can see both of these festivals of spring.
What a wonderful place. Those tulips are gorgeous! Love the sculptures too. So much to love in your posts. Thanks always and have a wonderful Spring!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: I am glad you enjoyed it. I like this patch of the lakeside all year round, but love the face it is given for Spring.
DeleteOh so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: We think so too, and are very glad that we got to see both Floriade and the Tulip Top Gardens.
DeleteSo many wonders. So much creativity. Your city is beautiful. I love those water lilies:) Have a joyous one. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Thank you. I like my city, though many don't. I hope your day and week is packed with joy.
DeleteWow, this is wonderful! I loved the flower show, floats and all. Such beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing this, Sue :)
ReplyDeleteDamyanti Biswas: Thank you for this reassuring comment. I often worry that I only post same old, same old...
DeleteBeautiful post and jam packed with amazing colours. ♥
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Thank you. Spring is an incredibly vibrant time of year isn't it?
DeleteYour city is beautiful and shows it with pride. Thank you for sharing these photos and I hope you are having a good week.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. I am so glad that you and Lukas are safe. And really appreciate your kind words about my city.
DeleteBuona giornata.
ReplyDeleteGiancarlo: And to you.
DeleteJust lovely! Spring flowers are my favourites - with tulips leading the way. We've got glorious autumn leaves coming in - will post a few once I get out to take pics!
ReplyDeleteJemi Fraser: Thank you. I look forward to seeing photos of your autumnal glory - another of my favourite seasons.
DeleteThe weather is sunny and bright, my kind of weather. Love everything about this show!
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: We were lucky that day. We have had a lot of grey (and damp) days since.
DeleteAren't the swans magnificent? That's nice of you to share your magnets. Everyone loves happy mail. YOU have a day inspired for dancing. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: I do love our swans - though they can be very pushy birds. I am very happy to share the magnets, and wish I could share the event.
DeleteSuch pretty flowers. I especially love tulips. Also love the photo of the swan and its reflection. Happy Spring! We're barely in autumn here.
ReplyDeleteCarol Kilgore: I hope autumn arrives for you soon. Enjoy your blog break.
DeleteDoes the ferris wheel fully stop for people to get in and out? these are the things i like to know.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day out. It's nearly the weekend again so I wont say enjoy your week, just happy thursday :)
kylie: It comes to a complete stop and getting in and out of the Ferris Wheel is individually supervised. Which is slow, but I approve mightily.
DeleteAnd it was a lovely day.
The lily statue art in the pond is just gorgeous! Oof, I got a little dizzy seeing your view from on top of the Ferris wheel!!! ☺ The colors of the flowers are stunning, so happy the festival is on this year! ☺♥
ReplyDeleteRain: The Ferris Wheel is not very high. I felt totally secure. Aren't those floral displays a treat?
DeleteThose tulips just pop. Which remind me I need to get some daffodil bulbs since they aren't breakfast fodder for the critters.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Our sulphur crested vandals are very happy to destroy daffodils. I am glad that yours escape.
DeleteWhat a lovely spring flower festival your city has Floriade, Sue! Thanks for sharing such beauty. When we flew home yesterday, I could see the vibrant gold of our aspen trees painting the landscapes below. Lucky for us that flowering plants developed during the Early Cretaceous and had some 130 million years to spread and differentiate.
ReplyDeleteFundy Blue: Aren't flowers a joy? And hooray for their spread across the world. I would love to see your golden aspens too.
DeleteDelightful photos, I love all the beautiful and colorful flowers especially the tulips. I hope you have a great weekend,
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: Thank you. It has been very wet and grey since we went to Floriade. We were lucky - though the flowers will be blooming still.
DeleteYou do live in a beautiful city. Love all the vibrant colors. Interesting the pattern wasn't as bright from up above. Looks like a lot of fun overall. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS ~Jess: I have no idea why the colours weren't as vibrant from above. They were lovely at ground level though.
DeleteIt's a delight to see photos of your spring flowers while we don sweaters up here in the north. What a fun event to get everyone outside after a couple of years of covid. You do have a beautiful city with plenty of green space for walking. Thanks for taking me along. Enjoy your beautiful October. :)
ReplyDeleteD. Wallace Peach: Welcome and thank you. It just a few short months I will be envying your need for sweaters.
DeleteYOU have a wondrous weekend. Doing anything fun?
ReplyDeleteHugs
Sandra Cox: IF the weather allows it, I hope to do rather a lot in the garden. I hope your weekend is packed with love and laughter.
DeleteStunning, simply stunning. And I really liked the kangaroo and joey statues, they look worn with love.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): Those statues are very much loved - and I am sure that a lot of their patina comes from it.
DeleteWell certainly your post is jam full packed with amazing colour. The displays of flowers beds are stunning. Love the sculptures dotted round the gardens and that water lily is amazing. I am just about to plant my spring bulbs so I have to wait another 5-6 months to see my garden display. Have a great weekend and thanks for your many comments.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Birding For Pleasure: It is a really vibrant display isn't it? Have fun planting your bulbs. I am already planning next years display.
DeleteOh, my yes, color absolutely as this weekend should prove to really be a wonderful burst of autumn colors everywhere we go. Your photos here are incredible and I followed along in awe and had to go back for one more wander about the beauty of them all. Enjoy what is left of your weekend, and into the new week. Take care.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: I am a big fan of colour which is part of the reason that autumn is like spring one of my favourite times of year. Enjoy your weekend too.
Delete
