I usually run with a theme. This week I am introducing the newest members of our family.
Batty and Odie are rescue cats. And brothers. They look very different and have different characters too. Batty is the black one and Odie the tabby. They are just over nine months old and government regulations in my city mean that they are indoor cats (unless and until we build a secure enclosure for them outside). They don't seem to mind. They play together, they sleep together, they fight together.
We didn't name them, but these are the names they know and for the moment at least they are keeping them. Perhaps Batty was named because of the size of his ears...
Less talk, more photos.
And in other news. The drift of bluebells we planted over Jazz has emerged and some of them are in bud. In years to come I hope they look like these ones elsewhere in our garden. Jazz used to roll in them (and looked really good doing so).
I hope you find joy in your weeks too.
PS: Our good friend Andrew lost his blog and twenty years worth of photographs and date this week. He has bravely started again and you will find his new blog here
PPS: And a worrying update. After I prepared this post yesterday it became obvious that Odie was unwell, and Batty off his food. So we had an emergency trip to the vet. Odie is on medication, and Batty is on 'watch and wait'. Keep your fingers crossed for us all please.
You have made my morning wonderful because you actually used the word joy my dear. Pixie came with her name too. And it seemed cruel to change it as she was used to it. This post has really touched my heart. Giving me joy. And hope. I feel much a love for you. I think I was touch most by the Blue bells. Fond Aloha dear!
ReplyDeleteCloudia: Thank you. Jazz loved bluebells and planting a drift of them over him seemed entirely appropriate. And we think of him each time we see them.
DeleteI hope Batty and Odie get well soon and enjoy their new family and blog fans. Both are very cute!
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. They are cute aren't they? Sadly they are not doing well this morning and I suspect we will be back at the vet tomorrow.
DeleteWishing you and them well
Deletee: Thank you. Batty improved and is home. Odie is at the vet.
DeleteOh gosh. I'm so pleased you've got new members of the family. I hope they are okay. And I love your floral tribute to Jazz.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sandra Cox: Thank you. And thanks for your email and your ongoing support.
DeleteFingers crossed for Batty and Odie. And for your wallet.
ReplyDeleteMike: Fingers tightly crossed. Our wallet has already taken a hit and I strongly suspect will take another tomorrow.
DeleteLove the tribune of Jazz, and I hope gets of the well Batty and Odie EC.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Thank you.
DeleteI hope Batty and Odie get well soon. They look happy (and very cute) in photos.
ReplyDeletebread&salt: They are cute and I hope they are happy.
DeleteA beautiful and fitting tribute to Jazz.
ReplyDeleteBatty and Odie are both adorable and I'm anxious to hear what the vet has to say. Hopefully they'll bounce back soon.
Hugs to you always.
River Fairchild: Jazz deserved his tribute. The vet is talking a viral infection - hopefully not one of the nastier ones. Fingers tightly crossed. And hugs gratefully received and returned.
DeleteDear EC - oh dear I do hope Batty and Odie are improving ... and will be with you for many a year. Jazz's bluebells are just lovely to see and yes Batty does suit his ears ... while Odie as you say is beautifully coloured. Take care and enjoy the littlies - cheers and sent with thoughts - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Batty does suit those ears doesn't he? I wonder whether they will look so disproportionate as he grows. Fingers crossed.
DeleteFingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteSean Jeating: As ours are.
DeleteWatching the kittens play is so soothing. What a way to relax into the weekend
ReplyDeleteroentare: We hope they are playing together again very soon.
DeletePoor kittens! Hope they are doing better. Maybe they got into something? And regulations keep them inside? Is that an Australian thing? Never heard of it. Although most cats should be indoor only as they can get run over.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: The vet suspects a virus (from their previous home). More and more councils are regulating that cats be kept inside which protects both the cats and the wildlife.
DeleteThanks for the mention. The brothers look so happy, playing together and camera posing. What a worry and fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: I am v happy to direct people to your new home - and have had a couple of enquiries today. Fingers tightly crossed.
DeleteI was delighted to see that you have two new kittens EC, but like everyone else, I have my fingers crossed that they have only a minor illness and will soon be over it. I love Odie's stripes, and his colouring really appeals to me... and Batty's ears are very smart! Hope all goes well x
ReplyDeleteOh - and the bluebells are lovely!
Alexia: Today has not been good. We will go back to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully they will have a solution. And thank you.
DeleteOh! My goodness! I do hope so very much that Batty and Odie are okay...please, please let them be okay! Cuddles from me and my two best furry mates to them.
ReplyDeleteI hope only good news comes your way this week, EC. Take care...
Lee: Thank you. We are hoping fervently too.
DeleteBatty and Odie have the most beautiful eyes, and very pretty coats. Great photos, a lovely series as are your bluebells. So sorry to read at the end that they are feeling poorly, and I hope it won't be long before they are back to good health.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: They are pretty boys aren't they? And I do hope they will soon be feeling MUCH better.
DeleteThey're adorable, and I love Batty's ears! But how awful that they're having problems already - so soon after all of Jazz's difficulties, you must be stressed to the max. A BIG 'fingers-crossed' that they'll both be better soon, and a heartfelt wish that this will be the last of their health problems for a very long time.
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: Stressed to the max covers it. Back to the vet tomorrow - and thank you.
DeleteI'm sorry that the kittens are sick. I hope that they'll get over the virus that is causing them to be sick. Will wait for some good news. I love a tabby cat.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julia
Julia: I have a weakness for black cats, but Odie is a beauty. And yes, we are hoping so much that they improve quickly.
DeleteI am so happy to welcome Batty and Odie, I think Jazz and Jewel would approve too, they know you are a good mum for cats. Sorry to read your final paragraph though, is it possible they are just adjusting to different food? I hope they both get well very soon. The bluebells are lovely, mine hardly bloomed at all and all the leaves are flattened to the ground. I will pull them all up after the summer and put them in a pot instead.
ReplyDeleteRiver: The vet thinks it is a virus. Odie has a respiratory infection. Sadly they have been with us too short a time for them to trust us to pill them. Back to the vet in the morning. Jazz would not approve of the newbies, but they are here.
DeleteThey are adorable, and I do hope they get well soon. Those ears are incredible! I am hoping we will hear good news soon about these new family members.
ReplyDeleteDJan: We hope so too.
DeleteThey are most precious, i am so glad you adopted them together to keep each other company when the humans are not around and entertain you, and share their love.
ReplyDeleteMy selections will be
Deletemessymimi: We have usually had at least two cats, and would have done after Jewel died, but Jazz made it clear he wouldn't welcome an intruder.
Deletemessymimi: As always I look forward to your selections. Sorry, I just rescued you and River from Spam.
DeleteOh, EC. I hope the new buddies are okay! They are cuties!
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Definite cuties. Fingers tightly crossed.
DeleteWhat lucky, lucky cats they are to have become part of your family. I hope they are both okay. Jazz's bluebells are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteKim: Thank you - on all counts.
DeleteThat is so upsetting about the lads and they were doing so well too. I hope the vet sorts out what's wrong and stat. Lovely pics EC, you capture their personalities. And the bluebells are glorious. Jazz is purring as his spirit rolls once more.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: Jazz would not like the new boys, but there is room in our hearts for them. I really, really hope the vet has answers and solutions when we go back tomorrow.
DeleteGreat colour combo and love the brilliant post of the pussy cats and flowers..x
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Thank you.
DeleteLike your cats particularly partial to the black one and I do hope they will be alright.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: I had to rescue you from spam. Again. I have a big weakness for black cats and always have. Batty is doing well today. Odie is not, and I will ring the vet as soon as they are open.
DeleteJust when I got all attached to Batty and Odie, I read they are both unwell and are not improving. I hope the vet figures out what is wrong with them before too long.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and fitting tribute to Jazz. You couldn't have asked for a better memorial to him.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: Batty is doing much better. Odie has at least eaten a very little (and kept it down) but we will go back to the vet today. And thank you for your kind words at our Jazz memorial.
DeleteYou really captured the essence of these cats! Love 'em!
ReplyDeleteBill: I am glad to hear it.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray that Batty and Odie are OK. They look such little characters. That's a lovely idea for Jazz's memorial. We have planted ferns and foxgloves over Scruffy.
Sending good wishes to you all.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Ferns and foxgloves sound like a lovely memorial too. I hope that both thrive.
DeleteFingers crossed, but we will be going back to the vet today.
Those cats are gorgeous, Sue, such character in those faces!
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Thank you. Although young they are already cats of character. Very different characters.
DeleteHow sweet to put the bluebells there. A nice tribute. I hope your new littles are back to 100% soon. They are surely very cute. I'm sorry to hear your friend lost his blog. Going to visit his new one to show support.
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: Thank you.
DeleteThey are adorable. Look at them, those eyes. And yes, those EARS!! hehe. I hope they’re better soon.
ReplyDeleteHow did Andrew lose his entire blog?? Oh dear!
neena maiya: They are cuties aren't they? Batty is better and we hope to be able to say the same for Odie soon.
DeleteAndrew lost his blog for contravening Google's rules - though they wont tell him where he went wrong.
Your new additions are adorable__for cats! I hope they both do well adjusting to their new home.
ReplyDeleteAnne in the kitchen: I hope that both of them can settle happily and healthily too.
DeleteBatty and Odie look so cozy there! They're lucky to have found such a home as yours. <3
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: Thank you. I know that you can't be around cats - which means that our home would be difficult for you.
DeleteThe feline siblings are too adorable! I can tell they have such interesting personalities by the way they look in the pictures :D The bluebells look lovely, BTW <3
ReplyDeleteDamyanti Biswas: They have such different personalities too, despite being brothers and brought u together.
DeleteBest wishes for the cats. Those ears on Batty are quite remarkable. Cuties, they both are.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: Thank you. Definite cuties.
DeleteOh praying for your sweet cats.
ReplyDeleteOh I feel for Andrew.. I, just a couple of months ago lost a bunch of the boys baby pictures! I was so angry with myself.
Hena Tayeb: Thank you. I feel for Andrew too and doubt I would have the courage/energy to start again. I am sorry that you lost your precious photos too.
DeleteCats and bluebells. Great combination!
ReplyDeleteOur thoughts are with you as we hope the cats improve.
Wally: Jazz did love the bluebells - and posed well in them. Thank you.
DeleteThose bluebells are adorable, and I can well imagine a black cat as a nice contrast ehere.
ReplyDeleteGood luck cats!
Charlotte (MotherOwl): We have LOTS of bluebells (and the occasional pink and white bell) in the garden. They will be doubly welcomed as they remind us of Jazz.
DeleteI love them. Are they ok? They're darling and I can't wait to watch them grow.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Batty is home with us (but missing Odie). Odie is still at the vets as they investigate further. Fingers tightly crossed. Rebuilding his trust is going to be hard, poor baby.
DeleteOh no, do they know what is wrong?
DeleteStrayer: Not yet. And now Batty is coming down with the same thing. We have an appointment for him tomorrow morning. Odie is doing a little better at the vet, but is still not right.
DeleteI'm thinking of you and sending catnip thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Sandra Cox: Thank you. Calming thoughts are needed - and appreciated.
DeleteThey are both so cute. I hope they feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: They are cuties aren't they? We hope they feel much, much better soon too.
DeleteBeautiful post, hope the kitties are ok.. x
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Thank you. They are a little better, but we are not out of the woods yet.
DeleteYikes! I hope the cuties improve rapidly - sending cuddles their way! Love the bluebells for Jazz
ReplyDeleteJemi Fraser: Thank you. The cuties are finally together again, and are improving. Fingers crossed. The bluebells for Jazz seemed right and proper - and make me glad (and sad) as they grow.
DeleteFirstly, I think the floral tribute for Jazz is lovely.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I did enjoy seeing your photographs, your new family members look so cute, however so sorry to read they have been unwell.
It is now Wednesday evening here in the UK so I am hoping that things have improved and the vet knows what is wrong. I was cheered reading your reply to Jemi Fraser :)
Sending lots of get well wishes and support to you as you go through this... not easy.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. The newbies are better than they were but still not a 100 per cent and we are waiting for the results of one more test.
DeleteGlad Odie is settling. Hope you get some sleep. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Odie is glad to be home, but regaining his trust will take time.
DeleteHugs. I know that has to be hurtful for you.
DeleteSandra Cox: I totally understand why it is. And we have the time.
DeleteGreat photos of the cats at play. Sorry to hear Odie is not well.
ReplyDeletediane b: Welcome and thank you. Both boys came down with whatever it is, though Odie was hit hardest. Hopefully they will recover quickly and completely.
DeleteI will keep my fingers crossed. They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteCaterina: They are super cute aren't they? And a little better than they were. Fingers are still crossed here.
DeleteI let out an audible "squeeee" when I saw the little ones! what mischief they will bring.
ReplyDeleteIt's rough to see them sick so I have my fingers crossed for a quick recovery.
Jazz used to go outside, are the indoor rules very new or was Jazz just not listening?
kylie: Very new regulations. In his later years Jazz went out with me to get the morning paper - and came in with me too. Batty and Odie are better than they were, but still not right. Fingers and toes tightly crossed. I will be glad when we can stop the medication battle too. For them and for me.
DeleteFingers crossed for you regarding the kitties. I agree on the ears is probably why they named him Batty.
ReplyDeleteSandy: Thank you. They are getting a little better, though we have some way to go. The ears? Perhaps. Or perhaps because some of his habits send me bat shit crazy.
DeleteHope today is a better day for all. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Thank you. Needed and appreciated.
DeleteBatty is an apt name. Hope the kitties become healthy
DeleteSue: Thank you. They are getting better. Slowly, but we are now hopeful.
DeleteOh I really hope both the kitties are okay!!! They are so sweet. I feel bad for your friend who lost his blog...good reminder to back it up weekly!!
ReplyDeleteRain: The kittens are getting better, though it will take time. Despite the warning from Andrew's disaster I have yet to back my blog. Bad me.
DeleteHi EC - glad the kitties are getting better - that's good to know ... have a peaceful week - see you tomorrow/tonight I hope! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: They are getting better which is lovely but we/they have a way to go yet.
DeleteHow wonderful that you got new kitties! They look gorgeous. Batty has amazing ears! I compliment your city's government about indoor cats - so much better for the cats, the wildlife outside and no pooping into other people's yard.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Thank you. And yes, the indoor cats rule has LOTS of positives.
