Sunday Selections #630

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week is again a bit of a hotch potch. Starting, as I so often do with photos at sunrise.

These trees were less than half an inch away on the horizon (if that makes sense) but were not showing any colour.
Looking in the opposite direction down the valley there was just a soft pink glow.

Next I am going to pinch an idea from River at Drifting through life and show some of our garden ornaments.

This is a solar powered mini fountain. If the day has been bright, it lights up at night until its charge is exhausted.

This is, I think, an old whale bone.  It was my father's and after he died I took it as a memento - despite the ambivalence I feel about what it is made from.

Some of you will remember that a ginger interloper used to visit - and that Jazz loathed it. The ginger family has expanded. There are now three ginger cats and this ginger and white boy.  They all visit and Batty and Odie watch them intensely.

Yesterday I had a totally unexpected and delightful treat.  Kylie, whose blog I have followed for a very long time,  was in the vicinity of my city for the weekend and suggested a blogger's meet up.  My chicken hearted self was a bit anxious, but it was lovely. Thank you Kylie.

I hope you all have a week filled with treats too.

  1. River Fairchild - Your dawns have so much beautiful color!
I love seeing the garden ornaments… and any and all garden photos. You inspire me to make something out of my dirt, so thank you for that.
Jazz would be having fits about the “horde” of felines invading his domain. 😂 It’s awesome that they enjoy your space so much. Makes me wonder why their own yard is so lacking in cat ambiance.
I’m glad you got to meet someone in person who you’ve known online for so long. I confess I’d have the same feelings of trepidation so I’ll enjoy your experience vicariously and return to my blanket fort.
Scritches to Batty and Odie, and hugs to you.

    1. River Fairchild: Thank you. Jazz would indeed be having fits and no doubt flinging himself at the windows shrieking. Odie does a bit of tail lashing and Batty just watches.
Enjoy your blanket fort - and I look forward to seeing what you make of your patch of dirt. I hope to get out in ours later and clear some dirt from the overlay of weeds.
      Hugs to you too.

  2. This is just the most delightful blog post I've read and sometime. Or I should say experienced. First of all, it's always lovely to see you posted. And your morning shots really perk me up. I'm so glad we enjoy them together. I like your garden a lot. And the whale bone is a family heirloom. I think that's a different category altogether. It's pretty cool that you have visitors to your garden and that your own residents are cool with that or even entertained. I'm wishing you beautiful day as always. Aloha

    1. Cloudia: The ginger family would like to come inside. Jazz would have hated that, and Odie is not at all certain. I am glad that you enjoyed your post and that my morning shots perk you up. Sunrise is approaching here - and I am looking forward to seeing what it brings.

  6. I met up with friends of long-standing earlier in the week, too. They popped up to the mountain to see me. They were down on the Gold Coast for couple of days...they live at a beach area just south of Mackay. It was great to catch up.

I hope your week ahead treats you most kindly, EC. Cuddles to Odie and Batty...I hope they're both doing well, too. :)

    1. Lee: I am glad that you caught up with friends. I hope Shama didn't treat them as Batty and Odie did our visitor.
Batty is still sneezing but I hope he is getting better. Fortunately Odie has not caught it.

    2. No, EC...my friends and I met at a cafe. Shama stayed warmly snuggled up on the bed. I warned her I'd be out longer than I usually am, but she just kept snoring away. :)

Poor little Batty...he sure has had a rough ride...let's hope it keeps getting smoother for him.

  8. Dear EC
That's a beautiful sunrise. I particularly like your solar fountain - do the visiting birds drink from it, or do you have a birdbath? Thank you for sharing your ornaments and memories they evoke.
Take care and have a good week.
    Best wishes

    1. Ellie Foster: The currawongs occasionally drink from the solar fountain - and collect nearby snails. Other birds avoid it, but we do have a birdbath.

  9. I love your garden ornaments! I've always wanted a heron sculpture for my garden (maybe someday), and the solar powered fountain is such a great idea, too.

Are Odie and Batty as hostile toward kitty visitors as Jazz used to be?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Diane Henders: Odie lashes his tail at the intruders but doesn't shriek. Both of them watch very carefully. Where human visitors are concerned they scuttle away quickly - after Odie has had a growl.

  10. I always look forward to your pink skies, EC - a lovely selection today. I think it was a great idea to show us your garden ornaments, and especially the whale bone.

Glad to hear that Batty is improving, and that Odie has managed to evade the bug. I have just had a week of treatment for the skin on my face (pale Scottish skin which burns easily). Thankfully, the treatment is complete, so now I just have to wait for the bright red patches to disappear... :)
I hope that you are well too - and looking forward to your frosty leaves and flowers. Kia kaha

I always wanted to get some lawn ornaments but in my busyness, I always put it to later and later never came. lol... 15. Your garden ornaments are very interesting, especially the owls.
Batty and Odie probably want to give the interlopers a biffing.
It is always hard meeting people new but almost always worth the effort, as it was in your case.

    1. Andrew: The owls (and some other owls I didn't show) were gifts and I really like them. Batty and Odie are much smaller than the interlopers, and unlike them don't go outside.
It was definitely worth the anxiety to meet with Kylie.

  16. I'm a bit chicken-hearted about meet-ups too. Hopefully I can get over that once my new teeth become comfortable.

  30. The bird sculpture is so impressive! I'd have kept the whale bone too, despite the ambivalence you cite, which I would also feel. (Cumbersome sentence there!) I don't think I'd have the courage to meet up with a fellow blogger or writer in person. I know how harshly people tend to judge others on their looks, and I am very far removed from conventionally attractive.
I've created another Haiga for my aquarium project. Even as busy as I am, I insist on doing so despite knowing that poetry is anything but commercially viable. Oh well, it wouldn't be the first time I've been told I was mentally off.

Thank you. Things have been difficult here.
