Sunday Selections #638

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week I am returning to my fondness for public (and semi public) art.

My city has often been described as 'a good sheep station, ruined'.  There are a number of statues of sheep about.  This small flock lives at a suburban shopping centre. They are loved by their local community and decorated for Christmas.

I was at that shopping centre to see one of my doctors.  Which is where the semi public art comes in.  One wall of the reception area is devoted to a feature wallpaper.

I find it fascinating and (with permission) have taken some detailed shots to show you why.

Isn't it a lovely addition to what is often a very boring space?

I hope you find things to intrigue you this week too.

  1. Hi EC - love the sheep, but particularly love the wallpaper - reminds me of a few artworks I've seen - but I'd love to know its origin - should you know or be able t find out. Yes - I'm finding rather a lot of intriguing things to keep me occupied, apart from normal life - cheers and with thoughts to you - Hilary

    1. The wallpaper might be based on Ernst Haeckl (1834 - 1919) ... the German scientist, philosopher and artist ??

    2. Hilary Melton-Butcher: THANK YOU. If this wallpaper isn't based on this talented man's work I will eat my hat. I love that he (and so many others) see art in nature. I have often said that nature is THE best artist - and her galleries are superb too.

  2. What a great work of "wallpaper art"! So much to look at while you're waiting for an appointment.

  10. What a wonderful idea - so much better than sitting in a waiting area with nothing but a pile of old magazines to look at! I love the zebra, the rhino, the tiger, the swimmers... so colourful and clever. The sheep will look great when Christmas and New Year come around.

I hope you are well, and that the kittens are looking after you, EC. I have had eye surgery recently, and am trying to stop myself reading too much - VERY difficult :)
Take care, and enjoy your garden: spring will be here before we know it!

    1. Alexia: I hope your eye surgery went really, really well. And yes, limited reading would be a big, big challenge.
The garden has got away from me here and I need to do a LOT of work. There are already spring flowers in bloom and a lot of weeds. Weeds that are trying to strangle other plants.
The kittens are keeping me busy.
