Sunday Selections #667

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  This week I am taking you to Enlighten, an annual festival that was held while I was on my blog break.  The focus of the festival is on the illuminated buildings in our Parliamentary Triangle, but there are also decorations in the city itself.  Which is where we are going this week.  The decorations inside the mall were very different to those outside.

Starting inside:

As you will see the time span in the decorations represented inside and outside the mall was very different - and indeed malls would not have existed when the second features roamed the earth.  I am pretty certain that the critters were illuminated at night, but sadly I didn't see them then.  And equally sadly, they were fenced off during the day and I couldn't take any close up photos.

I hope that you find brightness in your week - and for those that celebrate it, Happy Easter.

  1. River Fairchild - I am so in love with your city! 🥰 This is fabulous. The art and imagination displayed there delight me all the time. Thank for sharing all the eye candy with the rest of us.

I hope you have an uneventful week coming up and time to rest without being poked and prodded by medical staff. Big hugs to you and scritches for the kitties.

    1. River Fairchild: Thank you. My city has a reputation for being more boring than ditch water - a rep I don't think it deserves. Minimal medical appointments this week, though they ramp up again next. Hugs to you too.

  2. Dear EC
You have so much going on in your city and it is a joy to share it with you - thank you. I particularly like the sabre-toothed tiger!
Have a good week and take care of yourself

  4. I like the first one a lot (radar dish?) Does it light up itself or are there lights shining on it?

    1. Mike: It lights up itself though of course the lights in the mall also shine on it.

  9. Canberra certainly has many sights for the people to see and appreciate. And I am sure, like me, the rest of your readers appreciate your sharing of them with us, EC. :

I hope you're feeling heaps better...and I hope that continues through the coming week...for you, and for dear Batty and Odie...my cuddles to them...and a few hugs for you! :)

  10. Wonderful creatures, all sizes and shapes and colours, love 'em! And the Interstellar Space Station too, what a lot of creativity on display. I've enjoyed having a look at Enlighten with you. I wonder if my cousin in Mawson goes to it, I'll have to ask her, we connect with Zoom every couple of weeks.

    1. Shammickite: There will be more from Enlighten next week. We go to it every year, but none of the rest of my family do. I wonder whether your cousin does. Let me know if you remember please.

  11. I am impressed by both those displays. The inside looked a bit oriental in inspiration and the outside--well, bit animal.

  12. I love the Space theme inside the mall and I can see why the dinosaurs were fenced off, I imagine children might want to climb on them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. River: I wonder whether you are right about the fencing. There didn't seem to be any fear that children might want to play on the space themed ones in the mall.

  15. Yes, I think those critters are lanterns. That must be striking at night. Very interesting to see their construction and translucence in the daylight though. So I enjoyed seeing those photos. Let me say what a pleasure it is to have you back. I certainly hope you have a beautiful autumn and feel much much better as the days move along. Thanks for your dear visit and comment which always make me smile. Aloha

  33. Terrific imagination at work with those displays!
The difference in eras inside/outside reminded me of our relationship with the Grandkids. They're all ultra modern and we're like those primitive creatures from millions of years ago.

Gini and I hope your new week is off to a great start!

    1. Wally Jones: No children and hence no grandchildren. I am definitely a dinosaur though which probably explains why those installations spoke louder to me. I hope that you and Gini are revelling in nature's bounty.
