This meme was started by Delores a long time ago. Computer issues led her to bow out for a while. The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write. Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image. What we do with those prompts is up to us: a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore... We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.
Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog. I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants. If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud. And huge thanks to those of you who come back, sometimes time after time to cheer other contributors on.
Huge thanks to Hilary Melton-Butcher for providing the prompts last month. The prompts will be here again this month and are provided by Charlotte (MotherOwl).
An additional prompt from Charlotte (MotherOwl) is her colour of the month to use (or not) in your take on the prompts. The colour for July is"Writing Pleasure Purple"

This week's prompts are:
- Ferry
- Determined
- Box
- Convey
- Paste
- First
And/or
- Family
- Astonish
- Obtain
- Avoid
- Magnificent
Have fun.
The news from yesterday's specialist appointment was not good. I will be absent for a while (hopefully from next week) for surgery and treatment. I will schedule the posts for the rest of the month and they will still appear.
Dear EC - good luck ... I'll be thinking of you - and wishing you the very best. I'm sure they'll take care of you ... sent with hot hugs from the northern hemisphere - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteNo one really knows how much she resents being FERRIED to the hospital one more time. Even her FAMILY is not fully aware of how utterly DETERMINED she is to CONVEY a false sense of wellbeing, dealing with matters far less serious than is the truth. She AVOIDS burdening her blogging friends, those bound by ties of friendship, love and affection, some of them there since the FIRST days of Blogspot before copy and PASTE was a useful tool. Always one to think outside the BOX, Sue ASTONISHES everyone with her MAGNIFICENT spirit and in the process OBTAINS the heartfelt good wishes of her extended world. The FIRST priority is to take care of the business at hand. Then it’s onwards and upwards. We are all there with you, Sue, our own precious, dear friend. If you feel buffeted, fear not. It is just the waves of love from around the world bumping into you. There are more to come.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne and Hilary Melton-Butcher: Thank you both so very much.
DeleteDavid, thank you for this, I always find it hard to express such sentiments. Wishing all the best for Sue too.
DeleteA beautiful post expressing gratitude and affection for Sue. We join you in your good wishes for her. Thank you for speaking so eloquently on behalf of us.
DeleteMay all be well.
DeleteWell said and sentiments shared!
DeletePerfect use of the words David, and I'm sure all of us will endorse your thoughts here for Sue ... I definitely do - congratulations ... so thoughtful - and I know she'll appreciate it. Cheers for now - Hilary
ReplyDeleteSorry, quick and dirty today. My mind is in other places.
ReplyDeleteLucy loved ferry trips. She found the water calming and serene and was determined to take every opportunity to go on them. The winter trips could be chilly but she refused to stay inside in the box like cabin and stood (well rugged up) on the deck watching the trees glide by. Yes she knew it was the ferry moving but it was such a smooth ride it conveyed the impression that the trees were gliding. Beautiful things, with their bare branches filigreed against the sky.
Sometimes she thought that she should print her myriad photos and paste them into a scrapbook.
She decided against it. First and foremost who would be interested? Her family wouldn’t. There was nothing to astonish anyone though the gentle serenity was lovely. She had also decided to declutter – which was another reason to avoid collecting/compiling, obtaining more things. In any event the magnificent images were all in her rich memory banks. Age could not weary them not the years condemn…
This is a lovely story, don't disparage it!
DeleteIt has often been said that the best pictures are within one’s mind and I am quite convinced that it is true. We’ll done, Sue.
DeleteYes - just what I needed at this time ... my memory holds many things - which others won't much be interested in ... I do hope you can come out 'clean and easier' in due time - relax as best you can ... with those memories. with thoughts - Hilary
DeleteA beautiful story that reminded me of my river cruises and lost-to-me scrapbooks of my trips.
DeleteThank you for still hosting this. I have all fingers and what else can be crossed for you and a good result from the treatment.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your news wasn't good. Sending you positive thoughts for a good outcome from your surgery and treatment.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on my story and praying for you always.
ReplyDeleteMy story will be over here.
DeleteExcellent story Mimi ... well done - cheers Hilary
DeleteThank you, Hilary!

ReplyDeleteThoughts ,prayers ,good wishes and good luck. Thank you for this blog.
An amazing performance and beautiful tribute.
DeleteI hope to get chance to play. Also sending positive vibes your way.
ReplyDeleteOh EC, so sorry to read the not so good news. There is light at the end, stay strong, be strong and we all wait your return. Take care, love and best wishes.
ReplyDeleteI’ll have to sail on the FERRY to Melbourne because I’m DETERMINED to take the FIRST BOX that has become available to CONVEY my message to the company I’m dealing with. One can’t PASTE a photo in an email of the box because you just can’t see inside it unless I pull everything out! That is so hard because the content in the box are may large items.
That to me is stupid when the company will pay my fare, meals, accommodation and transport.
Hi Margaret - yes conveying what we want to say, or others to see can be frustrating: so good they'll pay your fare etc. Well done - cheers Hilary
DeleteIf they're doing the paying, I say enjoy the trip!
DeleteI agree with MessyMimi! If someone else is footing the bill, enjoy the holiday!
DeleteChipmunk here again. I didn’t want you to think I’m ignoring you. I got your last message, but your ISP is apparently not letting my reply through… ? At least that’s the error message I got. Says I’m blocked. Alas. Sending love, at any rate. (Don’t sweat over this! Seriously. You’ve got enough to deal with! I seem able to receive from you, but not the other way around.) xxoo
ReplyDeleteHi EC - we'll all be thinking of you and wishing you the very best ... here's mine ....
ReplyDelete"The family were astonished their Papa had suggested a holiday for them … he'd been so determined to finish his latest novel, but what they didn't know … was that a place had become available on the Writing for Pleasure Ferry … and it was here that he'd previously met the magnificent, voluptuous blonde with purple highlights who ran the place.
They packed the cars to convey all the necessities for a holiday and a writing retreat … boxes and boxes of things – no doubt many superfluous … but at least they were all going on a summer holiday … well all but Papa, who was going to work, yet he happily avoided that sort of thing.
His agent had obtained from his publishers the promise of new deal if he could finish this next book.
For now … he'd enjoy his salmon paste sandwiches the family had left him, while he plotted on with his scribbling, before the possible treat ahead of time with the curvaceous blonde … he hoped his luck would be in!
Fun words Charlotte, thank you - cheers everyone - Hilary
Papa is planning his own entertainment, isn't he. Excellent use of the words.
DeleteVery entertaining ferry apparently for all who are going. Nice use of the prompts!
DeleteI hope the blonde lives up to expectations!
ReplyDeleteFor him yes, for me no!! Thanks ...
DeleteSending prayers and good wishes for your surgery. Hoping you will have a speedy and complete recovery.
ReplyDeleteCon mis mejores deseos, amiga Sue, de que esa intervención quirúrgica vaya todo bien, te envÃo desde Sevilla un cordial saludo y muchos ánimos.
ReplyDeleteUff! Obviously I got hit by the same bug like Chipmunk:

Thinking of you and your upcoming surgery. Sending huggs and love your way too.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Sending prayers and positive vibes your way!
ReplyDeleteHow about all in one sentence:
The first ferry to convey the box across the channel was filled with paste, and we determined it wouldn't be a sticky endeavor.
Nicely done! Quite succinct.
Deletewell done!
From Google Translate:
DeleteThe reunited family returns to the grandfather. The wheelchair had to be transported in a car and it had to be decided which person in the car had the best conditions to do so.
His son Andrés had just bought a car with a good trunk.
He arrived on the determined day and in addition to the wheelchair he also had to load the suitcase with his clothes and other belongings.
He also carried a box with photos where he kept the photos of his children since they were small. He also carried the toiletry bag with the brush and toothpaste, a sponge for the bathroom and a bottle of cologne to give off a good aroma.
The first to go up was the grandfather and then his two sons.
They looked for the best exit that would take them to the place of residence and they did it early to avoid some traffic jams.
It didn't take long to arrive at a spacious residence with large gardens around it. There he passed the examination of a doctor who gave his consent to his entry. He didn't have any disease that was contagious, only the passing of the years affected the mobility of his legs.
Everyone left and the poor grandfather was left alone with his wheelchair walking around the garden. It was a magnificent spring day with an intense aroma of orange blossom. He looked back and sitting on a bench, there was an old woman with white hair who was crying for her sorrows and he approached her to console her and this was the beginning of a great friendship.
End of story.
Ventana De Foto,
DeleteI enjoyed your story. It's true, so many older people are sad when they have to leave the life and home they've loved and go to a place for care. I hope the man and lady become good friends.
Me gustó tu historia.
A very wonderful story, altho sad, I do hope that grandfather and the woman can find comfort in their new friendship.
DeleteOh no- I hope your surgery goes well. Thinking good thoughts and sending prayers.
ReplyDeleteSue - all my emails to you have bounced back. Just putting this on your blog to let you know.
