Sunday Selections #821

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. Parts of Australia have been having buckets of rain recently.  Flooding rain.  We are in drought and need rain.  Naturally we haven't received any of the buckets.  Every day last week rain was forecast.  Until Thursday we had received none.  On Thursday and Friday we received a little.  And I rejoiced.  And revelled in the beauty.

Grey days, but I thought there was a lot of beauty in it too.
I loved the plants bejewelled with water droplets and thought that the colours of the rain washed foliage popped.  The scent of the rain washed air was lovely too.

 There were visiting birds too.

The birds seemed totally unphased by the rain.
As an aside why oh why are weather predictions accurate to within a degree on temperature and so far off the mark where rainfall is concerned.

As I said we had rain predicted every day last week and it fell on two day.  On those two days we had much less (about half) the predicted falls.

I am going to finish with a Batty shot.  He is jealous of all the attention Odie got after my last post and assured me (and you) that he is just as beautiful.  And he does have lovely eyes.

Sunday Selections #229

Like River I usually run with a theme. We have been promised rain and promised rain.  And the weather boffins have lied like pigs in mud.  This week it finally arrived.  In three days we got more rain than we have received in the last three months combined.  With apologies to those in the US who have had much more than they want or need, I loved it, the garden loved it, the skinny one liked it and the cats loathed it.

However, by the first sunny day the smaller portion had gone stir crazy.  So we went out, to the nearby Googong Dam to watch it run over the spillway.  As is usual many photos follow.

We had some trouble getting access to a spot where we could see the spillway.  The roads had been flooded and were blocked off.

At the top the water looked serene.

Then we found a friendly ranger who told us where we could find walking trails to a lookout.  The trails were uneven, and heavy going but we are both really pleased we made the effort.  The water coming over the spillway looked great - and sounded incredible.

You don't say...

And watching the water spill into the Queanbeyan River below the dam was lovely too.

The further away from the spillway the quieter and calmer the water became.  It was still moving suprisingly fast though.
