Sunday Selections 375

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme. I am returning to my avian obsessed ways, with pictures of some of our feathered visitors.

I adore the bearded ravens and feel privileged that they visit us.  I treat them with respect though.
As do the other birds.

This young corella is a regular visitor.  And very, very noisy.  It is only quiet when food is being stuffed into that gaping maw.

The crimson rosellas are much quieter.  And always welcome.

We can now hand feed king parrots, cockatoos and corellas.  Which makes for some problems.  We have insufficient arms and cannot minister to their needs/wants simultaneously.

It is incredibly trusting of the corella to bury its head in the food bucket so close to the feeder and the photographer.

That whinging youngster again.  It goes on and on and on.  And on.  And is very far from musical.

I wish I had been quicker/more accurate with this photo.  The whinger was just about to be fed.

I really like the 'chevrons' under the King Parrot's tails - though you may have to embiggen the photos to see them.

The cockatoo behind the King Parrot got tired of waiting 'patiently' and marched up and menaced the King Parrot off himself's hand.  And was itself bounced by yet another cockatoo.  Pecking order isn't an empty phrase.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  For the next few weeks I am going to revert to the Home and Away theme I was using this time last year.

Starting with home, and some of my obsessions.

Shortly after dawn one morning this week.

And a more flamboyant dawn display a little while ago.

The birds who are gracing our yard.

You will notice that his crest is missing a feather or two.  I picked one up a few days ago, and here it is.

The garden continues to give me joy.  And work.

Himself is still having a wonderful time.  An assortment of photos this time, showcasing the old and the new.

I was blown away when he mentioned the 'smallest' town he had visited had in the order of 5.000,000 inhabitants.  That makes me shudder worse than furry tofu.

Like River I usually run with a theme.   One day last week we decided it was time we went to see our 'new' dam (which was completed in 2013 - where does the time go).  We failed.  We could see it in the distance but could not find our way to the viewing platform.  It was hot, so we gave up fairly quickly, but enjoyed our wander along the river and will be back later to track the platform down.  There is very, very little water in the river though.  Ankle deep.  If you have short ankles.

Loved the snake warning on the sign.  We didn't see any but they are certainly there.

And the last sunset of 2015.

A very hot cockatoo to finish with.  It sat on the feeder panting, and completely ignored the water I set out for it.  I hope it found some more to its taste quickly.  Seeing their tongue hanging out like that is very unusual.

I can't help myself.  Another photo of a corella too.  It was there shortly before the cockatoo and didn't seem in the slightest bit bothered by the heat.  Its sleek perfection is marred by the branch ruffling its headdress though...

Sunday Selections #226

Like River I usually run with a theme.  The skinny one is visiting his sister and I am having a couple of blissfully quiet and peaceful days.  Mind you, the quiet is interrupted early by visiting birds.  And I don't mind one little bit.

The corellas arrive early.

They are followed by the King Parrots, who delight in apple which we put out for them.  They also rip off the camellia buds.  And flowers.  And vandals that they are, are still more than welcome.  Adult males have the red/orange head and females the green.  Until they get their adult plumage all of them have green heads - but the males can be identified because their beaks have a pink tinge.

Despite the green head, this is a male, yet to get his adult plumage

Then the cockatoos.  This pair had a beak-off, jockeying for prime position.

Noisy, messy (spreading seed and bits of apple from Christmas to breakfast), incontinent, vandals - and so very welcome.
