Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some
photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. I found myself distraught and overwrought this week. Largely self-induced, but unpleasant. And the fact that it was self-induced made it worse. Sometimes I am the queen of slow learners.
So, as I usually do, I turned to nature for solace.
And when himself got up we went down to the lake. He has recently invested in a pushbike and headed off along the cycle-paths and I wandered down to the water.
Where I spent a very happy hour.
I smiled at this magpie having a bath - and you will see more of it later.
The damp magpie flew into a nearby tree and did some energetic and acrobatic grooming.
I loved the between the legs view.
It was finally satisfied and started to sing. The magpies warble is a quintessentially Australian sound, and I love it. You can hear a short version here.

This
meme was started by Delores a long time ago. Week after week she
provided us with challenging prompts. Computer issues led her to bow

and cajoled for other volunteers to share providing the prompts, and

Wednesday became a movable feast. Delores discontinued her blog for a while, but she has returned, and we are grateful..
Essentially the aim is to encourage us
to write. Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be
words, phrases, music or an image. What we do with those prompts is up
to us: a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with

Some of us put our creation in
comments on the post, and others post on their own blog. I would really
like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme. If
you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other
participants, can come along and applaud.
This month the prompts I will be providing the prompts here. The prompts will be here next month too, but will be provided by Margaret Adamson and her friend Sue Fulton. Her prompts will include photographs taken by her friend Bill.
As
always, I am hunting for more people to challenge us. Delores has
volunteered, and I have an extra month of prompts from Margaret et al,
but would like more. If you are able to play please let me know in the
comments (including which month would suit you best).
This week's prompts are:
- Apple
- Balcony
- Catastrophe
- Deep
- Evil
And/or
- Fly
- Ghastly
- Heart
- Illuminate
- Jest
Have fun.

Like River I usually run with a theme. This week I am returning (you will be shocked and surprised to hear) to my avian obsession. And this week I am focusing on noisy birds.
Starting with a new visitor to us. Noisy miners. They are from the honeyeater family, native to Australia and apparently endemic to a lot of eastern Australia. They too have discovered the joys of green apples and are becoming regular visitors. I think they are pretty. They can be 'talkative' too, but we have many, many noisier (and less musical) birds. This is their call.
Then to a long-billed corella, a bird I often feature. Or to be more accurate, to a young long-billed corella. This one visits often and we know it is here because if whinges constantly. Loudly. This is call of the little corella which is very similar to that of the long-billed, and the youngsters 'feed me, feed me' complaints are worse. They go on and on and on. And on. A few years ago we saw an adult firmly rap a complaining youngster on the top of its head. It shut up. And inside, we cheered.
The youngster can fly, and can feed itself. It does both. However if there is an adult around it prefers to chase after it and complain. As you can see it isn't precisely 'undernourished'. If you look at the third picture in the series you can see it beside a much slimmer adult.
Noisy, incontinent, destructive vandals. And we welcome them.
