Corellas Grooming

Yesterday was the smaller portion's birthday.  It was quiet, low key and much enjoyed by the man of the moment.  Towards dusk, with a glass of wine in hand we looked out the window and were rewarded with this.

Isn't it lovely?  We stood watching and both of us were wearing big smiles.  It was really lucky that the smaller portion remembered the camera.

  4. Reminds me of cats grooming each other! Happy Birthday to him. How's his beard doing?

  5. Strayer: Yes it did a bit. Though our cats have often used grooming sessions as a chance to get the other cat's guard down and go for the throat. Or the belly.
The smaller portion's beard is thriving. Drat it.

  6. Why do you have lovely birds in your back yard and all I get are turkey vultures? What do you put out there? Melons, and muffins? Do they dive bomb the cats?
You must be living near heaven. Happy B'day to your bearded smaller portion.

  7. Absolutely beautiful. What a gift.

  8. barbfroman: We put out seeds and apples. And the cockatoos are partial to tulips and daffodils in season. Drat them. And the wattle birds do dive bomb the cats (and occasionally me). Years back a magpie crapped on an overambitious cat as well (which streaked inside and hid under the bed).

Cat Drawings: It was, wasn't it? I hope you are feeling better.

  10. great video! something you certainly can't sit and watch every day! oh, and "Mmmmm.... mites" (in my best homer simpson voice).

happy belated birthday to the smaller portion!

  11. I like that moniker - Smaller Portion. :) I hope his birthday was happy.

And that was a lovely moment to observe - thank you for sharing!

  12. I went to watch it and got a warning that my system doesn't support this video. But from the comments, I think it had something to do with beautiful birds.

In any event, I am wishing the smaller portion a very happy birthday and smiling at his beard... :-)

  13. What fun! I seldom get to see any of "our birds" grooming each other like that.

  14. What a lovely birthday gift indeed! Those simple, serendipitous gifts from nature are better than anything you can get from a store (with the possible exception of a camera, with which to capture and share moments like this one!)

Is this a male and female pair? The one on the upper part of the branch looks bigger than the stretching yogini on the lower part. :-) I think they're sneaking a smooch beneath the privacy of his wing before dropping all attempts at modesty with a sweet necking session. LOL

Happy belated birthday to a fellow Capricorn! Sounds like my kind of celebration, and a perfect way to wind down the special day.

  15. Kath: It was pretty impressiv wasn't it?

daisyfae: I suspect you are right and mites were the impetus, but it looked so affectionate.

Lynn: Thank you. His birthday went off well. He is the smaller portion as a reaction to my mama who always called him my 'better half'. I am taller (disputed but true).

DJan: I am so sorry that you couldn't see it. It was a pair of corellas involved in a grooming session. Very pretty.

Ron Dudley: We don't often see it either. Lovely to watch though.

Laloofah: I don't know whether it is a male/female pair or parental groooming. Lovely to see either way. Our family is laden with Capricorns. As I type it is the birthday of one of my brothers, two nephews have had theirs, another in a week or so .....

  18. Karen: Thank you.

Relatively Retiring: I am sorry you couldn't watch the video. And thank you from all us Capricorns.

  20. Susan Kane: Thank you. I am really, really happy that people seem to have enjoyed them as much as we did. (those that could see the video anyhow).

  21. Bless you for this... I was having a fairly crappy day and not having a good time at all. Then checked in here and saw the birdies... major mental health break. Thank you.

  22. Paper Chipmunk: I am so sorry that you are having a crappy time. And equally happy that the corellas helped. They helped here too.

  23. I am starting to notice these birds outside my patio - but can't figure out how to photograph them. When I get my camera out they're gone of course.

I wait and wait but then I have to go back in. (there's SNOW outside!)

    Got any tips? LOL.

    You have some great shots!

  24. Have Myelin?: We often take the photos from inside. Which does require reasonably regular window cleaning (of a couple of panes only). And we have been feeding them for so long that they are used to us which helps too. Take thousands of photo's delete 99.8 percent.
I can't tell you how jealous I am of your snow.

  25. Happy Birthday to the smaller portion. Your videos of the birds are great. You have some real beauties out there in Australia.

  28. Hello, I'm visiting your blog for the first time. I wasn't able to view the video. (I must not have the right application.) But I scrolled through your latest postings and saw some wonderful photography. I do hope to learn the "code" that you are using for yourself and your family. And I look forward to returning to your blog to learn more.

    Peace.

  29. Hello Again,
My hand slipped when I tried to fill in the information below to leave a comment. So I'm the anonymous visiting for the first time!

    Peace.

  30. Dee Ready: Welcome. I am sorry that you couldn't view the video - a few people have not been able to. I tried to post it to U-tube and failed dismally. I am really happy that you like the photos. And videos are a rarity I promise.

  31. Happy Birthday to the smaller portion!
That is a nice combination of native birds. I see you have a feeder, I daren't put one up as we have huge flocks of galahs, sulphur-crested cockatoos, little corellas and the ubiquitous magpies multiplying like rabbits.

  32. Arija: Welcome. I will trot over and visit you later. There are quite large numbers of birds in the parks near to us (and sometimes on our lawn) but we get immense pleasure from their visits and will continue to feed them.

  33. Happy Birthday to the Smaller Portion. The photos are lovely... for me the video did not work. Old Machine here. One can watch the birds for hours.

  34. Another person who cannot access my video. Sigh. And yes, this one can and does watch the birds for hours. And hours.

  35. This will cheer you up, I can't watch them either. However, I'm so pleased you both had such a nice time on his birthday. Myself and hubby used to go out to the nature sanctuaries in the countryside and sit in the 'hides' for hours watching birds, I can't do that anymore but I do enjoy your birds and flowers. Thnaks x

I'd never heard of Corellas, and this was beautiful. Liza Bean Bitey would never leave the window sill...

  38. All Consuming. Humph. And it was/is a lovely thing.

ladyfi: Thank you from both of us.

Pearl: I am so pleased you could see it. Liza Bean Bitey would have to wait in line. Jazz n Jewel spend a fair amount of time on the windowsills.

  39. I am glad you showed us these birds grooming...I thought one fell at the end

  40. Kim @ Stuff: It merely scooted down the branch faster than we could track it. 'No corellas were harmed in the making of this film.' Promise.

  43. Laloofah: Thank you very much for my early birthday present. I opened it, and loved it.
