This meme was started by Delores a long time ago. When she left us briefly we realised that the meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast. I am very, very sad (and angry) to write that a troll has led Delores to leave us again. She will be missed and I hope her meme continues.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write. Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image. What we do with those prompts is up to us: a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore... We can use some or all of the prompts.
Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog. I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants. If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.
The prompts will be here this month (Margaret Adamson and her friends were to provide them, but she is travelling so we have swopped).
This week's prompts are images:

Have fun.
I can see tribal warriors beating the drums at night, awakening the beast...
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: But who will put the beast to rest again?
DeleteGood one, both of you!
DeleteMoon and Lion dance are always imbedded in my creativity somewhere 😉. Best wishes everyone good luck
ReplyDeleteCloudia: I really wish you would let your creativity out to play...
DeleteGood afternoon, it's still Tuesday here, my day off, and what a pleasant surprise to see two images for this week! They are intriguing and I'm in the writing mood so I'm going to be back with my post! Enjoy your day.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: It is definitely Wednesday morning here. Enjoy your day off, and I am really, really looking forward to seeing where these images take you.
DeleteSomething different! Something fun!
ReplyDeletenothoughtsnoprayersnonothing: Oh good. Fun is the aim.
DeleteAs the sun set at the beach fair, the two employees of Rick's Famous Mobile Tortilla Makers looked at each other.
ReplyDelete"Did you bring the flour?" said the lad, his legs spread, ready to show off his mad skills to the growing crowd.
"Oh, crap. I thought you had the flour," said the lass, taking a step back, "Do you think there's any in the van?"
"I don't know, but if there's not, it's going to be a long night."
Six hours later, as the two former employees of Rick's Famous Mobile Tortilla Makers looked up at the red moon, the lass turned to the lad.
"So, what are you going to do tomorrow morning? I'm going to try that restaurant over there by the parking lot. I saw a 'Help Wanted' sign. Wanna come with me?"
He smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, why not. It'd be nice to see how fresh tortillas are actually made."
"First of all you need, like, flour..."
He smiled.
"Yeah, yeah. Minor details. Hey, listen, if we both get this job, wanna go out sometime, like for dinner or something - and no one has to wear anything yellow?"
She smiled back.
"Sure, but let's skip Mexican - at least for our first date."
Mark Koopmans: Love it. And would happily eat Mexican on any date.
DeleteAnyone can make a mistake. Nice story!
DeleteLovely story and I'm up for Mexican - any time.

Amusing. So what exactly did they do for six hours before they got fired?
DeleteHave a lovely day.
Let me think on this one for a while. Seems a little more difficult than doing it with words, but maybe I just need to apply myself a little more.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Take all the time you need. I struggle with images often too - not being a terribly visual person. I am really looking forward to seeing where the prompts take you though.
DeleteI have tried three times, Sue, but what I come up with is pretty lame. I think I will pass on this one.
DeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Thank you (so much) for the attempt. I am sorry it didn't work out for you, and hope next week's prompts suit you better.
DeleteDrum harder
ReplyDeleteDrum faster.
Drum louder.
Keep drumming.
Our very lives depend on it.
If you stop, the moon will turn red,
Wink out,
And this world will end.
Drum on. And on.
Something does, indeed, keep us from winking out. Fascinating idea that it might include drums.
DeleteEven if we just give a little rat-a-tat-tat, it will keep the beat going. We should not underestimate the power of a small voice.
DeleteDrum until we drop. Yay I say.

Very evocative, EC. Thumbs up.
DeleteMy immediate reaction? Wow, what a cool methaphor for the beating heart within us. Nicely done, if that's what you meant, and if not, I'm sticking with my gut instincts :)
DeleteNot quite sure how to interpret this but I hope this never happens.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
This is very powerful EC!! Love it!
DeleteThis is a fun challenge that I wish I was ready for.
ReplyDeleteI'm entertained by Mark's fun contribution, though.
Take care, EC.
Rawknrobyn: I was entertained by Mark too. And have no yellow clothing...
DeleteShucks, and why thank you both mightily.
DeleteMy post will be up soon, and a rather poor contribution but it's all i could come up with. None of my characters wanted to claim the pictures and talk to me.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: I look forward to reading it. I am sorry that your characters weren't talking to you, and certain that you are underestimating your contribution.
Deletemessymimi: I was right. You were underestimating yourself. Again.
DeleteA red moon? I've never seen one in real life. I do love drums though. I'm sure something will come to me.
ReplyDeleteRiver: That red moon was the start of the lunar eclipse. It was lovely, but also foreboding (if that makes sense). I look forward to seeing where the drummer takes you.
DeleteRiver: I really, really loved your story this week.
Delete"I see the moon and the moon sees me. God bless the moon and God bless me" The verse was one I learned when I was very young. I guess it cemented the notion that I had a special relationship with it.Sometimes when l would look at the sky it felt like it is there solely for my pleasure. It has been a constant in various forms for as long as I can remember, mostly friendly but occasionally foreboding, especially when I was young and learned the tales of werewolves and vampires. In my mind even those lunar beings that scared the bejesus out of me were for me to fear all by myself. And then I grew up and was forced to leave planet me and to remember its loveliness is universal for everyone to enjoy. As for the creatures of the night? I will happily give those to someone else, but I am wondering__does the blood moon increase their activity? 13 year old me would be certain it does.
ReplyDeleteAnne in the kitchen: What a lovely verse. It is not one I have heard before.
DeleteAnd of course a blood moon (or an eclipse which this image shows the beginnings of) has dire portents. Your thirteen year old self would be joined by many, many others in that belief.
My Granny used to sing this song too (In Danish translation), I had forgotten it till now. Thanks for reminding me. And I like your story. The Moon is special to a lot of people, I think.
DeleteI remember that from my childhood and something something, sitting under the willow or apple tree was part of it too.
DeleteLovely take.

VERY nice, Anne.
DeleteThis is lovely. Exactly what I think I was sort of like at that age. Imagination is great but kind of scary if you can imagine werewolves and vampires.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
this is amazing and fun thing to do here dear EC
ReplyDeleteMoon seems to be friend from childhood ,chasing me everywhere
peeking though branches and smiling
waving from the kitchen window
and singing lore from the bedroom window
i look at him each time and can't resist smiling back ,that is all i can do from here :)
hugs!
baili: I love this. I have always seen the moon as a friend too - and still do.
DeleteGrandmother Moon, I talk to her all the time. Love this.

Love this!
DeleteIt's always so amazing to see pictures of moons, and conjure up images of wonderful good witches on broomsticks. (lol) Hope your day is going well! Sending some hugs your way! RO
ReplyDeleteRO: Thank you. Do you know witches didn't even occur to me? A busy day here (I am heading out shortly). I hope yours is great. Hugs to you too.
DeleteAgree, I was thinking of witches too!
DeleteMmmm..a fascinating approach. The drums, costumes, moon, immediately provide a natural rhythm for a ballad. 🤗
ReplyDeletelostinimaginaryworlds: Dare we hope you will write and share that ballad?
Deletehttps://nothoughtsnoprayersnonothing.blogspot.com/2019/10/words-for-wednesday-moonglow.html
ReplyDeleteMy moon is glowing.
nothoughtsnoprayersnonothing: I LOVE your use of the prompts.
DeleteHere is my take:
ReplyDelete---------------------------------------------------------------
The gathering of the costumes and paraphernalia took forever it seemed. Far longer than the actual performance on the night of the harvest moon.
The drums beating steadily, like a heartbeat, the beautiful raft with the lantern flickering, waiting, the embroidered cushions placed so carefully.
Elder Paridon was carried carefully to the raft, his bearers up to their knees in water. His robe caught the golden light from above as they laid him gently on the cushions and then released the tether of the anchoring rope.
The drums increased their rhythm. Palidon sat regally, embraced by the pillows around him.
They waved continually as he drifted off to the deeper water.
And he waved back, smiling.

Wisewebwoman: Yet another very different and very talented take. I first thought that the raft was a pyre (and am still not certain). I will take this image with me in my travels today and think some more. Thank you.
Delete@Wisewebwoman:Yeah, I'm also thinking the Elder was on a one-way trip to somewhere, but he was at peace with it. Very thought-provoking and well-written :)
Delete@Wisewebwoman: Maybe he's going to a land for retired kings and queens. I'm not sure if this is an eternal farewell or just a goodbye to a short voyage maybe.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
@Wisewebwoman- What a great piece! It has me thinking and wondering- so that is always a good sign. :) I am curious about what happens next! Thanks for sharing.

Mine is posted here: Room 122
ReplyDeleteCindi Summerlin: I have read your intriguing piece - and hope that others do too.
DeleteSome around this alien galaxy something was closing in on me,
ReplyDeleteTribal warriors beating drums so I had to flee,
I was filled with fear,
as one of these trained killers aimed and threw a spear,
I fell cos like it was game over but hey, lets be merry and have beer!
Spacer Guy: Smiling. The event at which I photographed the drummer had LOTS of beer. Thank you for joining us.
Delete@Spacer Guy: This is kind of charming. Forget the chaos and have a beer.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
The moon is so beautiful to look at!☺
ReplyDeletenatalia20041989: It is. I spent a very happy hour that morning (very early) photographing that splendour.
DeleteDrum and moon, beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Thank you.
DeleteSuch fascinating takes on these two images. I adore the photo of the moon. It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: Thank you. I took that photo well before dawn during the lunar eclipse and I thought it was beautiful too.
DeleteRed tide on the moon
ReplyDeleteDon't eat the celestial crabs
For the duration!
Bea: Love it. Fortunately for those with a taste for celestial crabs the red tide didn't last long at all.
Delete:D
Deletelaurie: I am glad. Very glad.
ReplyDeleteFotografie molto belle, quella della luna e fantastica.
ReplyDeleteBuona giornata.
Giancarlo: Thank you. Aren't digital cameras wonderful? And a pleasant day and night to you too.
DeleteThe red moon hung heavy in the sky. A perfect backdrop for The Purge.
ReplyDeleteElsie
I just watched the show last night. :)
Elsie Amata: The Purge? That is a new one for me. Off to ask Captain Google.
DeleteHi EC ... I'll be back to read ...
ReplyDeleteThey’d found this bolt of cloth in one of the tiny independent shops near Garema Place … an excellent haberdashery collection – just right for the costumes she’d been asked to run up for February’s Canberra’s Multicultural Festival.
Ideal - the drummers had wanted bright coloured aboriginal-style outfits … so they’d look right for the artistic community and tourists they’d be playing for.
The colours were bright and magical … the setting sun blended into the brightness of the yellow, the fiery sparks of orange and pink hues in their top, while the harem pants allowed that full movement required by the group as they performed.
I was able to capture that moment perfectly … as the setting sun sparked towards its rougeness – fortunately my Words for Wednesday group let me use my photo for their prompt this week. (?!?!)
Cheers Hilary
Woot! Woot!
DeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I am super, super impressed at the way you incorporated my city into thise prompts. And can so see that drummer (he of the most excellent back and butt) rocking the Multi-Cultural festival.
DeleteThanks ... I couldn't think what to write - but seeing they were Aussies ... I could guess a bit and with a bit of searching the post easily came to light - then realised it was one of your photos! I suspect age must have caught up with me ... !!?? Cheers H
DeleteDrums beat until sunset
ReplyDeleteDrummers leave
Red moon rise overhead.
Well done, Susan! It certainly brings a picture to the mind.
DeleteSusan Kane: Simple and elegant.
DeleteLate as ever but here's on take on the prompts - The thief's number one rule
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa: There is no time limit - and I am looking forward to reading your post.
DeleteI'm running late, too...
ReplyDeleteOh! No! Not again! It only seems like yesterday...last night!
It just can’t be full moon again! No! No!
My heart is beating like a millions drums!
I’m not going to make a fool of myself again. I can’t!
I’m locking myself inside, and tossing away the keys.
No more will I go out and howl at the moon...never again!
I made a promise to the local cops. They told me it was the last time they would warn me. Next time they wouldn’t be so lenient!
Lee: Go out and howl. And snarl at the cops when they come round. Some days we NEED to howl. Loudly.
DeleteHowling at the moon
ReplyDeleteThick fur sprouting
Werewolf fangs hunger...
Lol
Have a wonderful weekend!😊😊
Much love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ygraine: I hope your fangs find the food they need - and that your weekend is also wonderful. Huge hugs.
DeleteWell, I love the pictures. I don't know if I will have time to write, but will make an effort later. I don't know how you manage to come see me when you have so many to follow, but I really appreciate hearing from you. Believe it or not I am making tentative plans to come to Australia in a year (have to same my pennies). I will be coming over with my son and Daughter-in-law if all works out. I sure hope we will be able to meet. You are an awesome, bright person ... :)
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From the Sol
Andrea @ From The Sol: I would love to see you when you get to Oz. When you have a date and an itinary talk to me. Please. I hope that you do find the time to think about these images, but am glad to see you come by. Always.
DeleteHow fun ❤
ReplyDeleteKinga K.: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteGood morning! I finally have a day off and put this together and posted it to my blog just now! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
