Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. Autumn is here and our trees are starting to blaze with the annual aboreal fireworks display.
I had hoped to go for a walk to show you the trees in our street/suburb. Sadly I am not up to that yet. My blood oxygen levels are better and no longer sit firmly in the dangerous range but they are still low and I tire easily. Next week I hope...
So instead I am going to show shots from our sadly neglected garden. Our sadly neglected and confused garden. The begonias that line our front veranda are an annual autumn treat.
However, the hoya which bloomed as it usually does at Christmas has decided it is time to bloom again.
The colour on this last photo is a reflection from the sunrise. Astute eyes will notice Odie checking it out from inside the house. Tomorrow week we take Batty back to the vet and are expecting/hoping that he can be released from solitary confinement and join Odie in checking out the world again.
In the garden there are also clear signs of spring. These bulbs are already emerging from the ground, months too early.
I am going to finish this post with photos of a delicate little mushroom. Commonly referred to as the Pleated Inkcap, and sometimes as the Little Japanese Umbrella, Parasola (formerly Coprinus) plicatilis is a very delicate member of the inkcap group of fungi. It occurs in short grass.
I hope you find colour and beauty in your week.
Jamie: These are beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteJamie: Thank you. In the coming weeks I hope to have different photos to share.
DeleteI love your garden, it's so pretty.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Part of the garden is pretty at the moment.. Much of it is not.
DeleteAutumn is looking omg the year has gone
ReplyDeleteJohn Going Gently: Autumn is doing more than lurking here...
DeleteThat Odie is so darn cute:) Woot. Woot for making a comeback. Wonderful news.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Odie is very cute. It is a long time since we have shared our lives with a tabby cat and I had forgotten how pretty their markings are.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI hope you will continue to improve. Make sure you are being gentle with yourself. Fingers crossed for Batty too. Your garden doesn't look neglected at all - those begonias are amazing!
I hope your week will be a kind one to you. Sending a virtual hug.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: I did do too much on the first day I started to feel better - and paid for it. I have learnt. I hope.
DeleteThank you. The begonias are set and forget plants. The front veranda seems to be an excellent spot for them to thrive.
Signs of spring in autumn?! Pretty disconcerting.
ReplyDeleteMy good thoughts are with you, Sue.
Sean Jeating: Definitely disconcerting - and thank you.
DeleteGetting a little better every day really is encouraging news, Sue.
ReplyDeleteA page of lovely flowers, to boot.
Joanne Noragon: I really, really hope that you are also getting a little better each and every day.
DeleteI'm happy to learn you're feeling better, EC...best thoughts and wishes that you continue along this path. You and Batty are going in the right direction. Keep on keeping on. Shama is nodding her head and agreeing with me. :)
ReplyDeleteMay the coming week bring with it only joyful, good things for you. Take good care.
Lee: Thank you and Shama. I have an appointment with the neurologist this week and am definitely hoping for good news.
DeleteBeautiful floral blooms indeed
ReplyDeleteroentare: They brighten the entrance to our home every year.
DeleteI love, love those photos of beautiful Begonias. Such delicate and colorful beauties. I want to plant some in the shade of my Gazebo but it's still too early in the season.
ReplyDeleteHope Batty will have pleasant news to cheer us with.
Wishing you a beautiful week. Hugs,
Julia
Julia: I really like begonias. These live permanently on the veranda and seem to be very happy there. Batty is bored in his solitary confinement - which is a good sign.
DeleteBulbs coming up now? Remarkable. It is not that warm and daylight saving has just ended, so that is an hour less daylight for plants.
ReplyDeleteThe tree looks confused with only half coloured up.
We can see you Odie.
The mushroom looks very delicate indeed, and pretty.
Andrew: Bulbs are indeed coming up now - with and through the weeds. Odie knew he was being observed and ran to the door to meet me when I was coming inside again. Isn't that mushroom a charmer?
DeleteSorry you aren't up to walking much. The photos are great. We are slipping from spring to summer already here.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: I hope to be able to walk again. Soon.
DeleteIt is so hard to hold back on doing things when one has been out of commission and then starts to feel a little better. Take it easy and keep your eye on the long game. Odie is a beautiful kitten! Does he go out in the garden at all? My cats are indoor only, and I wish sometimes I could trust them to stay close by if I let them out. But I can't :)
ReplyDeletejenny_o: New regulations in my city mean that Odie is an indoor only cat. He would we think like it outside, but it is out of bounds for him. He does spend a LOT of time watching the birds. I will try and be sensible. I wasn't a few days ago and learnt a painful lesson.
DeleteI love all of your begonias and wish I could grow some, but I have never managed any. My mum took cuttings and they thrived all over her back porch while my plants died. Anyway, I get to see yours and that is enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear you are a little better, I shall hope for a lot better soon. Fingers crossed. For Batty too.
I only noticed Odie after you pointed him out :(
River: We found a spot for the begonias that they love and they thrive there. Odie will be pleased that you missed seeing him. Fingers remain crossed for Batty - and for me. Thank you.
DeleteSome of the trees at the moment are a beautiful colour and of course all planted by humans. You begonias are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: I am enjoying the autumnal colours - so much.
DeleteYou have shown us lots of soft, pretty pink this week. I never tire of pink.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for making the most if a good day, life is for living!
Let's hope you keep getting better and can really enjoy that cute little bandit
kylie: Life is indeed for living and sadly for a little while now poor Batty (and to some extent me) have been existing. Hopefully that is about to change. It was a pink post wasn't it?
DeleteThe flowers are wonderful, but so is the news that things are working better in your lungs! Don't rush things, but I hope you're ready to get out and about normally very soon.
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you. I am trying hard not to rush things - it simply doesn't work.
DeleteYour "sadly neglected" garden looks great, Sue. The flowers will do their thing without human primping, and while all may not look as neat as you might like, its beauty is there to enjoy. Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. Fingers and toes crossed for it to continue.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I didn't show the photos of the most neglected bits - and our garden is NEVER neat. It is wonderful to be breathing more easily. Long may that last.
DeleteOh EC - I do hope tomorrow is a happy day for you and for Batty. I'm glad things are easing, though slowly. I love the flowers, as I know you do ... and perhaps Autumn will help ease things for you too. Thinking of you - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Next Monday, not today. We are really, really hoping that Batty can be set free. The garden provides me with useful exercise (when it isn't being neglected) and solace and heart balm all year. Have a great week.
DeleteNoted - re next Monday! I do so hope so. xo
DeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Fingers crossed - though the signs are good.
DeleteYour "neglected" garden looks much better than mine.
ReplyDeleteTake good care of yourself.
Hugs
Caterina: Only parts of it. Teeny, weeny parts of it.
DeleteQuite beautiful selections this Sunday.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie: Thank you.
DeleteThe sunset reflection shot is astounding, remarkable
ReplyDeleteKim: It was a sunrise rather than sunset but I was so very lucky to see and capture it.
DeleteI forgot that yesterday was Sunday in your world. I fear I'm a bit late visiting. Your begonia photos are stunning. I am in awe. I hope you feel well enough next week to take us on a walk in your neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteOdie looks attentive, but I'm sure misses Batty. I hope both you and Batty receive good news tomorrow, or is that today already (grin).
Hope you have a peaceful week, get your oxygen levels up, and are able to snuggle with BOTH Batty and Odie.
Bluebeard and Elizabeth: Today is Monday and it is next week that we hope to get good news for Batty (and for Odie who misses him). And thank you - on all counts.
DeleteI remember seeing your begonias lining your patio. These shots are so beautiful. Mine didn't last long, so I don't buy them anymore.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: Our begonias live on the veranda all year round. For some of that year they are bare pots, but they come back with a vengeance.
DeleteI sent a comment last night. Not here.
ReplyDeleteI said that your "neglected" garden looks so much better than mine.
Be well.
Caterina: Your comment had been marked as spam - I have rescued it and now you have two comments up. Thank you.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - I’m so happy to hear your breathing is getting better! Oh, to bounce back like a child again is something I often wish for. And crossing my fingers for Batty’s release.
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been crazy everywhere this year but at least you have the beauty of unexpected blooms. I’ve never thought of mushrooms being beautiful but those certainly are!
Continue taking good care of yourself and sending lots of hugs your way.
River Fairchild: Thank you for stopping by. You must still be exhausted. Moving is vile. The unexpected blooms are interesting but I wonder whether the spring blooms will bloom again later in the year. I am looking after myself - and still hoping for poor Batty.
DeleteBeautiful colours! I was ditch diving and am worn out. You take care.
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks: Thank you. You look after yourself too.
DeleteI hope this time next week you are feeling much better, EC.
ReplyDeleteThe blooms are beautiful. You brightened my day. Thank you.
Marie Smith: Isn't the blogosphere wonderful in that it allows us to enjoy multiple seasons at once?
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful, and I particularly liked the little parasol mushroom. Odie gave me a smile, too. And an even wider smile came from the news that your blood oxygen levels are finally out of the danger zone - I'm so pleased to hear that. I hope you see quicker improvement, soon!
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: Thank you. I am hoping for quicker (and sustained) improvement too - and hope to be able to go walking this week.
DeleteIsn't that tiny shroom a charmer?
Your flowers are indeed gorgeous, and I am so glad you are taking care of yourself and getting stronger by the day. And I did see Odie back there. Fingers crossed for Batty's release!
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you. Fingers remain tightly crossed for poor Batty.
DeleteYour garden may be confused- but it looks beautiful! Love all the flowers! I especially love the Pleated Inkcap. How fabulous! I hope you keep feeling better every day and that Batty can be out of confinement soon. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS ~Jess: Given how confused I often am, it is probably not surprising the garden is too. Thank you.
DeleteI love your selections, especially from your garden. You may call it sadly neglected, i call it beautiful.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: Perhaps I will show some photos next week that highlight the neglect. Or perhaps not.
DeleteThe fungi looks like a Japanese Umbrella. I like that name because it fits so well. Odie in the background photo is very cute. I thought I was reading it wrong when you said these plants show clear signs of spring. Hey wait, we're supposed to be having spring while you have the opposite. PS winter marches on here, without an end in sight.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: You were reading correctly. Our garden is very confused. We have some summer flowers out, some autumn blooms, and lots of spring shoots. That mushroom is gorgeous isn't it?
DeleteI so hope you will get back on your feet soon my friend.
ReplyDeleteI also hope Batty will get back on his feet.
Thank you for showing all those beautiful flowers and plants. I especially like that umbrella plant with the sunrise reflecting on it.
Lon Anderson: Thank you for the good wishes for Batty and me. I was so lucky to be outside at just the right time to see that mushroom bathed in a soft sunrise.
DeleteYour flowers are so beautiful. Holding a good thought for Batty.
ReplyDeleteAm praying for you and sending fond thoughts of Aloha. You have become very dear to so many of us. Bless you friend
Cloudia: Many thanks. I never realised when I first stepped into the blogosphere that I would find so many dear friends here.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. Your garden flowers are so beautiful. In our desert climate doesn't always give flowers like these.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: I suspect your desert climate brings other wonders - things I would love to see.
DeleteI hope you start to feel better soon and that Batty's test results will be good tomorrow. Your trees, flowers and mushrooms are a treat. Thank you and think of you often as I send good vibes and healing energies, to Batty too.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Battty's next appointment is next week not this. Fingers remained crossed that he gets released. And thank you - so very much.
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful and that mushroom is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteMay your oxygen levels continue to improve, take good care of yourself.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan; Thank you. I am so grateful I saw the mushroom - and had my camera with me.
DeleteI saw a little bunch of parasola in my garden in Boston early August - still very hot - and was delighted. I am trying to figure out how that fits with you seeing them along with bulbs in your garden and going into the fall and now I am going to put an ice pack on my head. Also delighted that your oxygen levels are going in the correct direction.
ReplyDeleteFrances: I hear you. It is still making both of my brain cells hurt - and hooray for more oxygen.
DeleteNosotros seguimos estando en primavera y la próxima estación que viene será la del otoño.
ReplyDeleteVENTANA DE FOTO: We have signs of three seasons at the moment. I suspect winter is not far away.
DeleteSo beautyful - and always amusing to see my houseplants blooming and thriving in the wild. Hoping for better health for you!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): I am not good with houseplants and very glad of everything that thrives outside.
DeleteThat mushroom is so beautiful, it looks just like a flower. I love the Begonias! ♥☺
ReplyDeleteRain: I think the mushroom is beautiful too - and it was made even more so with the reflected light from sunrise.
DeleteThe little pink fungi stands out beautifully! So it's Spring there too? I am used to the seasons being flipped. Our Winter is your Summer, etc., but I suppose we must converge sometimes.
ReplyDeleteSandi: Our weather is weird. Officially we are in autumn, and our seasons shouldn't be converging at all. Never the twain shall meet...
DeleteThe world is strange lately.
DeleteIt is changing.
DeleteSandi: The world and its weather is seriously weird at the moment. It is changing and not for the better.
DeleteI think everyone can tell something is seriously going on in our world. I have never seen anything like it.
DeleteSandi: Oh yes, and the changes are not on the whole for the better.
DeleteI'm loving all the vibrant colors these days, especially on trees.
ReplyDeleteTake good care, EC.
Rawknrobyn: I hope to get out later this week and photograph more of our autumn splendour.
DeleteIsn't that tree spectacular. I hope you're feeling better today than yesterday and tomorrow better than today. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: I really liked the way that tree had a foot in both summer and autumn. Here's hoping your kind wish comes true.
DeleteSuch beautiful flowers. I can imagine the lovely autumn colors you have there. We are slowly sailing toward summer and then it will be time to head two blocks to the beach to run into the waves to cool off for a while. I hope your week is going well and you feel all right. Sincere meows from my cats Freddie and Morticia to your cats.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: I hope you can enjoy your beach time soon. Is Morticia a black cat? I hope so. And thank you.
DeleteMorticia is a completely black beauty and Freddie is black and white,
DeleteRasmaSandra: They sound beautiful - and I know they are much loved.
DeleteGreat photos! I do love begonias. I wish they would winter over here, sadly, they die off as soon as the first cold rolls in.
ReplyDeleteJuli: I am glad that ours survive the winter. The tuberose begonias lose their leaves but come back each spring. And are welcomed.
DeleteWow, beautiful photos. I love the flowers.
ReplyDeleteFood Blogger: Thank you.
DeleteThose begonias are a treat for sure.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Sandra Cox: A very welcome annual treat.
DeleteVery, very glad to read that your blood levels are no longer in the danger zone.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: So am I. Very glad.
DeleteLovely creative and awesome post.. A wonderful garden full of lush colours ..
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: A garden full of lush colours - and rather a lot of weeds.
DeleteI love begonias. And these are beautiful to look at.
ReplyDeleteNas: We love them too - and have a lot of them.
DeleteI like the hoya flowers! And such colorful photos. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAuthors with Advice: The hoya flowers are lovely aren't they? I am a big fan of colour too.;
DeleteBeautiful pictures
ReplyDeleteRajani Rehana: Thank you.
DeleteBeautiful photos of stunning flowers.
ReplyDeleteKelly Steel: Welcome and thank you. I do love my garden - despite the work it is crying out for.
DeleteThe orange begonias are gorgeous. Hope today is a grand day at your house. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: There is a stunning yellow begonia too - which I failed to photograph this year.
DeleteLovely photos, thank you once again!
ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo Newbery: It is lovely to see you. How are you doing? Hugs.
DeleteI have missed seeing your lovely florals. My own fault for being absent. Apparently you have been unwell and I did not know and I am hoping you are heading toward the best of health. Praying for youl Be back soon hope!
ReplyDeleteJ C: It was lovely to see a post from you this morning - I have missed you. I am well on the way to recovery, for which I am grateful.
DeleteI hope you're better now, Child. I'm sending lots of positive vibes the way you do with your gorgeous flowers. xx
