This
meme was started by Delores a long time ago. Computer issues led her
to bow out for a while. The meme was too much fun to let go, and now
Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a
movable feast.
Essentially
the aim is to encourage us to write. Each week we are given a choice
of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image. What we do
with those prompts is up to us: a short story, prose, a song, a poem,
or treating them with ignore... We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.
Some
of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on
their own blog. I would really like it if as many people as possible
joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants. If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.
This month I am providing the prompts.
Charlotte (MotherOwl) has selected water blue as the colour of the month. If you can include it in your story she and I will be grateful.
This week's prompts are:
- Antique
- Guide
- Celebration
- Journal
- Expressive
And/or
- A little bird told me
- Cat got your tongue?
- Every dog has his day
Hi EC - I've gone with the words:
ReplyDeleteThe antique desk was severely damaged from the watered-down ink spill … leaving a water blue stain on the desktop.
She'd been a Girl Guide and had thought that by writing expressively in her journal every day she could conjure up beautiful stories for them to remember once she'd gone …
… unfortunately she'd knocked the inkwell and glass of water over as she reached for her pen … there would be no celebration today – but the grandchildren would be pleased to have the memories.
Cheers ... Hilary
Hilary Melton-Butcher: The grandchildren will indeed be pleased to have the memories - and one or more of them may add to that water blue stain.
DeleteI enjoy the sentiment of the word use, and as a board certified klutz, I understand all too well.
DeleteClean up and try again tomorrow, those stories are worth saving.
DeleteMemories are made for grandchildren, even to be embellished a bit. That water blue stain may morph into red wine.
DeleteDavid - could well have ... ! Thanks - H
DeleteThat would be me. Knocking things over. Great job, Hils.

A little bird told me that the cat has got your tongue and you are being very quiet about the scandal in your office.
ReplyDeleteYou are usually very expressive about your opinion of your boss Meg, and upper management generally. What has led you to take Brer Rabbit as your guide and lie low and say nuffin? I would really, really like to see your work journal. Are you hoping that none of the mud will stick to you and you appear to be water blue pure? Or instead are you planning a celebration when Meg resigns (or is sacked) and you are appointed to her position as head of the Antiques section? After all, every dog has its day, and this might be your last chance for the promotion you have long thought you deserve…
Wonderful use of the words and phrases.
DeleteNicely told, you cast suspicion on Meg but are careful not to openly accuse.
DeleteYou have arranged the words in your story so well!! Your story is very good, you handle the language very well, I am sure you have read and written a lot🫖!
DeleteI will try to write my little story this weekend. Unfortunately I didn't make it last week. I hope this week I catch up and get back with a link❤️.
Katerinas Blog: Sometimes life gets in the way - but I hope you can link up with us this week.
Deletemessymimi: I saw Meg as a victim rather than a perpetrator.
DeleteMakes me glad I don't have to deal with workplace politics, backstabbing and intrigue.
DeletePhew! Well spotted! Taken from real life.
DeleteNice use of the words! And I give thanks that I work from home and don't have to deal with workplace politics, either... unless you count arguing with myself. ;-)
DeleteYou nailed the words. Well done, EC. Enjoy your weekend. Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
DeleteThat was fun!
DeleteHi EC - well done on using the phrases and words with this tale ... reminding me of office times thankfully long gone! Work journal - ugh! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I am very glad to have left those days behind too. Very, very glad.
DeleteThe second batch should produce some fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back to link and read after writing.
ReplyDeleteMy story will be over here.
Deletemessymimi: I look forward to reading your story this afternoon. Thank you.
DeleteI like the stories already here, I'll get back to the words tomorrow, I'm having a non-thinking back pain and hot water bottle day. Overworked the muscles a bit :(
ReplyDeleteRiver: Of course I look forward to your story, but I do hope that your poor back gets better. Quickly.
DeleteOur Antique
ReplyDeleteGuide made the tour a
Celebration of her town!
That night I wrote in my Journal that she was
Expressive Old lady
Cloudia: Hooray for expressive old ladies. I hope I am one.
DeleteCloudia - good take on the words ... well done and so true - thank you - Hilary
DeleteI was walking down the street along the footpath to be exact and A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME not to walk so fast, because he wanted to tell me some gossip and that I was making him tired.
ReplyDeleteI just kept going at the same pace.
The bird said to me in not a nice way, ‘CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE?’.
I didn’t answer and thought how lucky I was that EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY. Meaning I was ever so lucky that I didn’t have to listen to gossip from the bird for most of the day by being silent.
Margaret D: I had to rescue you from spam again. I really like this - and wish it was so easy to escape gossip.
DeleteHi Margaret - that's a really interesting little tale and take on life/nature - loved it ... thank you - Hilary
DeleteGreat job, Margaret. I like it!
DeleteAh, golden silence. ;-)
DeleteEC..Oh 'spam' EC it's not good when comments go in there. I'm pleased you rescued me. Re Gossip, I hate it but I also like to know what going on..lol
DeleteHilary..You are welcome, I'm new at this writing you know, but I'm getting there. 😊
David...Thank you.
Sean..silence is sure golden. 😊
I have been a GUIDE on nature walks for so long that some might consider me an ANTIQUE. If I could have you believe even part of the wisdom A LITTLE BIRD TOLD me that would be a cause for great CELEBRATION. I have kept a JOURNAL over the years, in many respects now replaced by my blog, which I hope is EXPRESSIVE enough for you all to keep reading it. EVERY DOG HAS HIS DAY. In truth I have had more than my share.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Love it. And some things mature with age. Definitely not an antique in your case, but a fine wine.
DeleteNot even subtle self-promotion. Well done, David. ;-)
DeleteThoroughly enjoyed this. Great job, David.
DeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Very beautiful story than words, I like it. The blog replaced the diary for me too!
DeleteYou have David ... that is very true ... 'antiquarian' you are not; you have not had your day yet - very true ... I'll be here reading whenever a post 'be put up' ... and/or you find yourself amongst Sue's 'Words for Wednesday' ... cheers for this Wednesday - Hilary
ReplyDeleteMore good words!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: And some wonderful (and very different) creations.
Delete– A little water blue bird told me the antique guide journal's celebration has been expressive. ... ... Hey! Cat got your tongue?
ReplyDelete– Ah, well, every dog has its day.
Sean Jeating: I would trust whatever a little water blue bird told me...
DeleteFun. Great job, Sean. Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Delete– Sue: Hopefully you're not too gullible.
Delete– Sandra: Glad I did not bore you. ;-)
Creative!
DeleteLike reading your tales everyone.
ReplyDeleteI also wrote my story and framed it with an image made with AI, the link: https://peripetiazois.blogspot.com/2024/04/blog-post_19.html Enjoy
ReplyDeleteKaterinas Blog: I have already seen your entry. You are braver than I am - I have not yet experimented with AI.
