Sunday Selections #304

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme. This week?  Hopefully my tears won't short out the keyboard before I finish.  Monday was hot here.  Jewel went out briefly in the morning but was subdued and off her food when she came in again.  On Tuesday she was no better so we went to the vet.

X-rays and blood tests gave us dreadful news.  Jewel's kidneys had failed and she had a tumour on her bladder.  There was no hope and nothing we could do, so we made the dreadful (for us) decision to let her go.  And my tears have fallen in floods ever since.  Jazz misses her too.  And looks for her.  And calls her.  And cries.  Which makes me cry too.

So this week is all about Jewel.  Precious.  Beautiful.  And gone too soon.

Jewel was a rescue cat, who had already been adopted and returned once before she came to live with us.  She settled into our home and hearts quickly, and while she has left the home she remains in our hearts.

And a huge thank you to those of you who have supported me as I wept.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  Last weekend the eastern side of my very dry continent got rain.  Lots and lots and lots of rain.  Some places received too much and flooding, damage and deaths occurred.

Here we got lots too.  But not too much.  Some minor damage, though sadly one person died when his car was washed away.

The garden and I loved it.

The next day we headed down to the dam to see if they had released any water down the spillways.  And they had.

We loved the rain.  The cats loathed it.  This is Jewel, claiming a box as her own.

Sunday Selections #191

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Like River I usually run with a theme.   And this week I will be (mostly) focusing on splashes of colour.  When we were at Tulip Tops last week I was admiring the pansy and viola faces that were the underplantings for most of the tulip beds.  And as I took a photo or six I remembered that Delores likes pansy faces too...

And a clump of Spring Star Flowers (Tritelea) which are thriving in our garden.

And for something completely different, Jewel.  She loves boxes and bags, and is very skilled at getting our shopping bags out in the small hours and having a wonderful time playing...

Sunday Selections

Sunday Selections, brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, is an ongoing theme where participants post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Anyone can join in, just post your photos under the Sunday Selections title, link back to Kim, then add your name to her Linky list at Frogpondsrock.

Like River, I like to have a theme for my post and this week my photos are largely from a walk I took through the garden yesterday.

And two exceptions.  Jazz is in far more photos than Jewel, so I decided to add one of her.  The smaller portion says she has a nose like a pig, but I think he is prejudiced because (at the moment) she prefers me.

And another cockatoo, because they are a source of never ending joy.

Out of the Shadows

After my last necessarily sombre post I felt the need for some lightness, brightness, colour and laughter.

While I was attempting to make the bed this morning Jazz and Jewel were helping as only cats can.  (clicking on any of the photos will make them larger)

The garden continues to give me joy.  I know I said I wouldn't put any more photos of daffodils up, but I lied.

I love the carpet of fallen camellia petals.  Some fell naturally and some were helped on their way by king parrots like the one so skillfully concealed in the next photo.

And a little more Jazz, looking very silly, on top of the fridge.  Regrettably this is probably one of his favourite places in the house.  From there he scurries behind the kitchen cupboards.  It is disconcerting to say the least to walk past a purring cupboard.
