Sunday Selection #267

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  I am taking you back to Enlighten this week (and there will probably be another post still to come).  We went back to see performances that only took place in the second week.

I also took the opportunity to talk to people in the information centres about the rabbit sub-theme I had noticed.  The young woman at the first information booth told me that there wasn't a rabbit theme and not every building featured them.  Wrong.
And at the second I was told that yes, there were rabbits on every building, but it was just an amazing co-incidence.  Which I doubt.  So it will remain a mystery.

When we arrived we noticed that Amanda Parer's inflatable rabbits had done what rabbits do - and bred.  There were three last week, and five this.

I was amazed at how expressive their faces were.

This first one is a very, very sad rabbit.

And then we kept wandering, to track down Meduses from the Black Hole Theatre, which was described as:
'Giant illuminated jellyfish to transport us to the deep blue and the life aquatic'.

Do you wonder that Enlighten has become an annual treat and that we try and get there at least twice?
Next week.  BALLOONS!!!!

Words For Wednesday

The lovely Delores at Under the Porch Light had been running this meme for a considerable period of time, week after week.   Computer issues led her to bow out for a while and I took over.  When Delores' absence looked like being more permanent I begged and cajoled for other volunteers to share providing the prompts, and Words for Wednesday became a moveable feast.  Sadly Delores has (temporarily I hope) discontinued her blog, though we have been told that she will be back in the fullness of time.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

This month the prompts will be published here - but are provided by Margaret Adamson and her friend Sue Fulton.

This week Margaret and Sue have challenged us with the two images below.

Have fun.  I can't wait to see where these take people...

Sunday Selections #266

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Like River I usually run with a theme.   Each March my city holds an Enlighten Festival.   It started on Friday and runs for the next ten days.   Buildings in the Parliamentary Triangle are illuminated and some class acts are brought to the city.  Many events are free, and it is very, very popular.  We went (of course) and will go back again next week to see an act which wasn't on this week.  I took several hundred photos and will devote a post (or two) to them later.

I was surprised to notice that this year Enlighten seems to have a sub-theme.  The images on the illuminated buildings change every few minutes.  They are designed to reflect the buildings purpose, and often feature highlights from current (or recent exhibitions).  This year each display featured rabbits.  Often very briefly but they were there.  Why?  I know not.  It was fun though.   The rabbits are a very minor part of the display, but once I had noticed them they 'popped up' everywhere.

These were on the National Portrait Gallery.

On the far left there is a rabbit - on the walls of the National Art Gallery.

There were several of these inflatable rabbits.  They were HUGE.  I read somewhere that they are seven metres tall... The exhibt, titled 'Intrude' by Amanda Parer, is apparently an illustration of the contradictory nature of rabbits.  Part of our childhoods, innocent, cute and fluffy.  Introduced into a foreign landscape they wreaked havoc...

The pink rabbits adorned Old Parliament House.

More of Amanda Parer's big bunnies.

This bunny was appeared briefly on the walls at Questacon.

The National Library too had its bunnies.  And I did think of Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit when I saw these.

Not only do we have Enlighten on at the moment, in less than two weeks the Balloon Spectacular will start.  Woo Hoo.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  In March of each year my city has a balloon festival.  I look forward to it every year and this week was looking at some old photos.  These are taken in 2008, when we took a breakfast cruise on the lake to see the balloons go up.  It was a treat - but I prefer to be closer to the balloons so we haven't done it since.

Just the same, here are some photos from that morning.  Autumn was MUCH more advanced than it is this year.

And I am also returning to the garden.  With a very different photo from the usual ones I take.

I was hanging out some washing one morning this week and looking down at the very dry garden bed under the clothes line when I spotted...

A LEAF DEMON!!!  And a close-up (neither the leaf nor the photo have been amended).  I hope its intentions are benign...

Last month Jacqueline at Randomosity tested our mettle.  She tricked us and retired Randomosity and can now be found here at Cranky Bar.
This month it is my turn.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts.

Sunday Selections #264

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme. This week I planned to show you the purple pavlova I made for my nephew's partner's 40th birthday party (goodness that makes me feel old).  However, while the pavlova was enjoyed by those who partook, the photos were an epic fail.  It looked grey rather than purple. Which it wasn't.  The interior was a deep, deep purple, the cream was marbled with red and blue and it was decorated with blueberries, raspberries and sugar stars.  In a completely over the top way it looked ok.   Sigh.

So I am reverting ar the eleventh hour to more common obsessions; a stylish corella and a sunset.

First the bird.

Then the sky.  Two consecutive days.
