Wet and Aggressive Corella challenges Magpie

Wet and Aggressive Corella challenges Magpie

Drat and double drat.

The smaller portion and I went down to the local shops this afternoon.  I wanted some ingredients to make Rumbledethump (a wonderfully named Scottish version of Colcannon) and we thought that while we were out we could pay the car insurance which is due next week.

Shopping done, and bill paid we set off for home in a glow of achievement.  We were not out of the car park when a young man reversed out of his parking spot straight into our rear passenger door.  Humph.  Crumpled panel(s) which will also require repainting.  No-one hurt which is the important issue.

  1. I'm so sorry. I do hope he's insured, and that you got the necessary information.

  3. Thanks Snow. He certainly said he was insured. Since I am a suspicious soul I looked him up in the local phone book when we got home and there is certainly someone of that name living at the address he gave. My guess is his parents at least so we should be OK. It is still a pain though.

  4. Gah! It's so easy for this sort of stuff to happen, and a quite happy afternoon suddenly feels like the lowest day of the year. Or close. Thank Dog noone was hurt. These are small blessings. But gah! Double gah! I hope tomorrow's less disastrous.

  5. Perhaps this may signal the moment to pay your car insurance online? Or only collide with upstart whippersnappers online instead of in person... one hopes this has made the fellow a more careful driver.

  6. What a pain this will be when your car is off the road for repairs. Does your car insurance company provide you with a hire car? :-).

  7. No hire car. And no we are waiting for the insurance company to deign to tell us which repairer they want us to use. I would assume one on the other side of town. Sigh.

  8. Are you sure you can't choose your own repair shop? In the U.S., insurance companies no longer get to choose for you because shops that they choose are too prone to cut corners.

  9. Not sure at all whether we can choose the repair shop or not. It is one of the things we need to chase up when they will deign to talk to us. Grrr. And unfortunately our legislation still lets the insurance company dictate who gets the work - or at least I think it still does.

  10. I'm glad no-one was hurt.
Why do insurance companies always choose the repairer furthest from your home?
    And please, what is rumbledethump??

  11. Rumbledethump (love the name) is a Scottish dish which includes mashed potatoes, turnip, onion and cabbage and is oven baked with a smidge of cheese on the top. Just right as the weather cools and makes great leftovers. I, as usual, fiddled with the recipe and swapped the turnip for parsnip and added sweet potato, mushrooms, garlic and ginger. Yummo.
