Small Steps in the Right Direction

This week has been on the challenging side.

Liaising with the car insurance people has been difficult and frustrating.

The body is behaving badly because I made it do too much.  The mind is following the body's example and is stiff, mostly non functional and sore.

However, today a number of positives emerged.

The car is going in for a quote tomorrow, at a smash repairer quite close to us.  The insurance company has heard of the repairer and has not yet raised any objections.  A win.

Tomorrow our heating and hot water systems and the evaporative  cooler are being serviced before winter bites.  All by the same company.  Who is offering a special deal.  Another win.

I was on call for Lifeline last night, and the phone was still ringing just before 1 am.  Without waking himself she says with no small degree of jealousy.  All things I could handle, so another win.  And the counsellors I spoke to (I was wearing my supervisor hat) sounded better at the end of each call.  More winning - on a roll here.

And we have planted 100 Scented Mixed Jonquils - near paths, windows and doorways so we get maximum benefit.  Yes I fell over, but I merely lay on the path and kept planting.  I refuse to give in.  And got up when we had finished and rewarded myself with a cup of chai.  The bulbs are just starting to shoot so they need to go in fairly quickly now, but it does look within the realms of possibility.  Just.

And last years bulbs are also shooting.  Promising.  Tomorrow I hope to get at least another 100 in, and ideally closer to 200.  We will see.

All digits crossed.

  1. You are on a fantastic roll so keep going but don't over do it. When all the bulbs start blooming you'll be very pleased with yourself and that your effort wasn't in vain, well done :-).

  3. Thanks Windsmoke, Cloudia. I will have forgotten the pain by the time things bloom. I hope.

  4. If you lie down before you start planting there's much less chance of falling over. Just roll from spot to spot...

  5. "The insurance company has heard of the repairer and has not yet raised any objections."

Which leaves me still wondering if they have the legal right to tell you where to take your car. Congratulations on all those wins!

  6. Oh my--I'm so out of it, I'd read the original post where you'd mentioned the crunched car, but it hadn't registered what you'd said. Oh dear. Just went back and reread that. Glad you weren't hurt! It's good to be positive. I'm so glad you are having some wins. And I also shake a metaphorical fist (or finger?) at the payback you are having from trying to do more. I know it's frustrating.

  7. River: I may just take your suggestion. And if the men from the funny farm come by, I will tell them 'River told me to'.
Snowbrush: Not at all certain about the legalities, but so far they are allowing us to use the repairer of choice. Yay.
Paper Chipmunk: I think it is first a fist I shake, and then the finger that I raise. And bad words I say (or would if I knew any). Frustrating doesn't begin to cover it.

  8. I like that you refer to dealing with the insurance company as "liaising" - very polite of you. I think that Dante needs to add a tenth circle in Hell for insurance companies and their cronies. :-)

Great to see some positives come out of it all, despite the physical struggles. Especially those bulbs - come September, the smell of jonquills wafting through the house will be wonderful.

  9. I love how you use the flowers as a symbol of your struggle but also your hope. You're very inspiring, EC dear!

  10. Thanks a lot Kath. I don't feel inspiring at all, but it is lovely to hear that others don't see me as I see me. And as a bye the bye, another 100 bulbs (mixed rainbow daffs) in and more weeding done today. An explosion of colour to come.
