Jazz's Adventure

Before I start: I am having a bit of a hate at blogger. When I went to create a post it wouldn't let me enter anything, just had a spinning circle going round and round as if something was loading. It looked different too. When I went back to the old editor the problem was solved but, since I am a newbie, I am unfamiliar with it. Humph. And I don't like the add picture option at all. Double humph.

Yesterday we took the car in to the crash repair place. We were told it is likely to be three or four days, so caught the bus home which is a new experience for the smaller portion. (our insurance policy doesn't give us a hire car).

When we left Jazz was playing on the front lawn. We got home a little over an hour later. No Jazz. This is unusual, because he is a cat who likes his breakfast, his mid morning snack, his lunch, his afternoon snack ...Who basically likes his food. Often. It was relatively early so we didn't worry.

Time went by. No Jazz. Jewel came in, crying. Still no Jazz. So we called. No Jazz. Shut Jewel in and I went walking and calling. No sign of him - which was good (no body) and bad. Came home. Jewel still crying. No Jazz.

The hours ticked by. Jewel still crying, running from front door to back door and back again. Which made me want to cry.

Much walking. Looking up trees. Looking down drains. Aaaaargh.

No Jazz. And then it got dark. They are always brought in loooong before then. More walking, more calling. Jewel still crying.

Just after 7.30 I went out again. To see a sad and sorry cat limping down the path. Crying, hoarsely as if he had used up his vocal chords. Brought him inside.

Jewel lifted her head and said 'oh you're back' and treated him with studious ignore. He was starving and bolted down considerable amounts of food.

He has a gouge on his nose, bites/scratches around his neck and is favouring a back leg. And purring very loudly. And of course the vet is shut AND we have no car. So we decide to give it until morning.

Jazz squeezed himself between us on the bed and purred the night away. He is still limping (but much, much less) and his other cuts seem clean. If he is not 100% tomorrow he is going to the vet (who he hates with a passion). Where is cat cam when you need it? No idea who/what he fought, but he lost. But is home, and happy to be here.

PS He woke me by smacking me in the mouth. Purring. Not only Jazz, but Spike is back.

  1. I am so glad to hear that it all turned out well in the end. Poor guy! And poor everyone, really! I had a cat who had a purr like that, like a car motor, which I just loved to be around.

  2. I hope Jazz recovers quickly!

  3. Oh, your poor cat! Hope he recovers soon.

    Lovely shots.

  4. Today I think he is doing better than I am. He is still limping a little (only when he jumps) but I am seriously stuffed. The smaller portion thought I had probably walked five or six k's calling him, but it was the stress that did my head in. And I have a training course tonight. Sigh.

  5. I'm confident that you'll both be back on the right track again in the next few days :-).

  6. "a cat who likes his breakfast, his mid morning snack, his lunch, his afternoon snack". Are you sure that isn't my Lambi in disguise? LOL!

Gosh, we fret about these little furbabies, don't we? I hope he continues to improve, though because I have a mean streak, I'd take him to the vet anyway to piss him off because he made me worry so much. I mean, why should he have all the fun?

I was having trouble with Blogger earlier as well. It would not let me comment anywhere (not even on my own blog!) and kept telling me to "Choose a profile" even though I was logged in. Idiots. L-G made me change to the new editor as he knows how resistant to change I am. But I undermine him by continuing to add photos the old way and completly ignoring the "add picture" option. He's given up on me :-)

I laughed at the bus catching being a new experience for your partner. We had to take our car to another town for a repair a couple of yeas back and we needed to get the bus home (about a 15km trip). L-G isn't used to the bus either and he got really bad travel sickness, so we were forced to get off half way home, literally in the middle of nowhere and ring a taxi. The only problem was that we had no idea where we were as we were surrounded by dark forests and had to describe the approximate bus route there so the taxi could find us. He hasn't been on the bus since :-)

  7. Child, Jazz IS neutered, right? Please say yes.

What you call a "hire car," Americans call a rental. The longer I blog , the more such differences I learn about.

  8. Snow: Jazz is neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated. And yes, the differences in our respective country's use of language is fascinating. One of the ones that always tickles my funny bone is parking on a drive way and driving on a park way. Weird. It is no wonder that English is supposedly one of the hardest to learn. And that doesn't take into account the spelling issues ...

  10. Excellent to hear Jazz is back safe. I am so tempted to try and measure the decibals of my cats purr since that recent entry of loudest purr into the guiness book of records - not that my cats come anywhere close, sigh - my cats are more dribblers than purers.

  11. This is a lovely blog. I'm glad Jazz is getting better

  12. I'd take Jazz to the vet too - for your reassurance and to give him 'the irrits' as my Grandpa used to say.

Blogger has been driving me INSANE lately. Normally I love putting in a picture or two but the spacing and html weirdness has made it impossible to use. I'd dearly like to whinge some more about it but am well aware that I've used it for six years now and it's free, so..... (biting my lip)....

  13. Thankyou one and all. Jazz is his usual self. He longer limps and his cuts are healing nicely, though he may retain a scar on his snoz. Still no car (bah humbug) so he is safe for the moment.

Anne: thankyou - feel free to drop in anytime.
Mad Cat Lady: that decibel thing was amazing - a cat which purred at whipper snipper levels! Bet the neighbours complained.

  14. "Snow: Jazz is neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated."

There is an American saying (at least, I think it's just heard in America) that might summarize Jazz's feeling about all of these things. It's "glued, screwed, and tattooed."

  15. In he summer, Poppy, our timid black cat, has a tendency to disappear for a day or two and it drives Mrs PM mad. "Where's my baby?" she will cry.

And of course, Poppy always appears with a "what have I done now?" look on her face.

    I hope Jazz has recovered.

    Cheers

    PM

  16. Snow: hadn't heard the glued, screwed and tattooed tag. Jazz aka Spike aka Sid Vicious certainly does his best to leave tattoo marks in my skin.

PM: My heart goes out to Mrs PM. I was frantic with worry. And Jazz is now fine(ish) if you discount the character flaws.

  17. Aw, cats can be such a worry when they go off and do ten rounds with the nearest bruiser moggy. Hubby's cat, Baggy, was a bugger for it and for all his worry he usually just got shown an arsehole and a look of disdain. I'm glad Jazz got back ok though.

  18. EC - so glad to hear Jazz found his way home after his "adventure" and is recovering nicely. Hope you too have recovered! But how do you know he lost the battle that left him limping and scarred? Perhaps his combatant came out of it much worse! Or so I'd like to think, for Jazz's pride's sake. And yes, Blogger has been very vexing lately for me too!

  19. poor guy, i hope he feels even better when i'm commenting three days later now!

i saw the comment on rental vs hire car above and i find it very amusing, these differences in AE vs BE, as an complete outsider i never have any problems in grasping the different words for this and that, i rarely know if they're BE or AE (well cookie - biscuit, fall-autumn, jewelry - jewellery, color - colour and such i do know:) i just use them. recently i had two people have a look at my cv translated into english and it was very entertaining to see the different approaches and comments i got from the one with the american origin compared to the one with the british origin. personally i prefer BE words and spelling in general, but i may have an american approach to expressing myself. perhaps. or i'm just me:)

blogger had some unfortunate hickups for a few days. i'm still missing my wednesday post (about lucky 13, ominous) and its comments. more info here http://buzz.blogger.com/2011/05/blogger-is-back.html

i hope your weekend will be a lovely one!

  20. Oh goodness, I know what it is like, so glad he got home okay and that in the days since you posted he in now better. One of our cats got accidently got locked in a neighbour's shed to 2 days and we were frantic, he never visited that neighbour again.

  21. While blogger was sulking and refusing to let us play it was also surreptitously munching comments.

So, thanks to Kath, PM, All Consuming and Two Tigers. Two Tigers wondered if if I was right about Jazz loosing his fight. Yup. The bully boy swagger evident when he trounces Jewel or me was gone. It is well and truly back now.

  22. Scott says he's glad Jazz came back home. Wash the wounds wif salty water and check for abscesses (always happened to our Uncle Orlando).

  23. wow jody harmon catwoman, "TRYING HARD" at gasoline prices just under 5 bucks a gallon, u really must not be having it "that hard" to be doing ALL THAT DRIVING!!!!!

  24. I tried to comment earlier, but Blogger was still not being nice. Poor you--such an awful experience when they don't come home! We also bring ours in at dinner time. On those rare occasions when someone doesn't show up to eat... I shudder. Needless to say, I'm relieved for you and so glad Jazz is back and recovering. Larry the cat (sleek and all black) has a loud, expressive siamese-like voice. I joke that the only thing worse than coming home to Larry demanding his dinner is coming home to no Larry being there demanding his dinner.

Good luck with the car! Another variety of shudder...

  25. Pia K, Kaka, librarygirl, oliverandruby, Paper Chipmunk, thank you all. Jazz is now fine. We have been playing the warm salty water trick and it doesn't (touch wood) look like there are any infections.

Anon: Huh? I have left your comment this time because it is not as offensive as the last BUT I AM NOT JODY HARMON. So perhaps you could track her down and comment on her blog. And I will delete any future comments that are meant for her.

  26. Blogger had a bit of a stroke last week, and took a long time recovering. I got grumpy with it, then I got good and angry, and then I started feeling sorry for the programmers, who, in their dashboard update messages, hinted at it being a result of human error and progressively sounded more and more quietly desperate. It seems to be behaving now, but in the process I lost an important comment that set my project back a week or two.

Poor old Jazz, and poor you -- I hate those lost cat days when your heart sinks like a stone and you start imagining worse and worse things as time goes by. I'm glad it had a happier ending than the poor little white cat had at our place!

WV = ratchary, the way a cat feels when he innocently goes rat-catching and gets beaten up instead.
