The Cat Pack.

If the cats and I are inside they keep a very close eye on what I am doing.  I am, for example, unable to go to the toilet without a black paw or two snaking under the door.  If I shut the door in their face the complaints are loud and long.

Similarly if I am in the garden they are very attentive.  Jewel in particular loves me planting bulbs.  She comes along behind me, digging them up and snorting the fertiliser I plant with them.  Crack cocaine for cats.  She has also been known to dig the bulb out and position her dainty black behind over the hole.

Despite being both black, they are very different.  Jewel is probably about a year older than Jazz and is half his size.  This very short video shows Jewel with her most favourite toy - an acorn shell.

Limp falls on the carpet are a relatively new trick.  The idea is for one of us to give them a belly rub.  Typically they position themselves so that one person cannot rub both bellies at once.  If Jazz feels he is missing out he attacks Jewel.  Or me.

There was never any chance that Jazz was going to fit into this box but he amused himself (and us) trying for well over half an hour.

Jazz has a fit if someone tries to put him in a bag.  Jewel climbs in of her own accord.  Both black, very different, much loved.  And shamefully indulged.

  1. Hey! We had a box like that! Our Secretary gave it to the bin man!
And we say there is no shame in indulging cats.No sir!

    1. Jazz's box has gone to the recycling truck as well. No fair - Jewel gets to keep her acorns AND her bags.

    1. Teresa, I am so sorry you couldn't see Jewel's clever little leap. Some day I will get the hang of posting videos so that all can see them.

  4. Jewell has such a lovely pounce form. Larry and Lila, both black, are similarly completely different in build and personality. Lila is (or was, before old age) a round cat with a thick stocky tail and is much smaller than Larry. Larry is long and lanky, including his tail, which is long and slim. Their personalities are also nothing alike. I can't imagine them flopping down next to each other like that! She'd hiss and he'd just be looking to see if she had any food to steal.

    Black cats are the finest.

  5. O Jewel! Hamper G and I have had a lovely morning laugh at the way she stands up to pounce . . . How graceful.
The way they follow you about sounds like my daughter. Except for the fertiliser bit :-/
    Beautiful silky cats.

    1. bugerlugs63: It was such a wonderful pounce. Nothing, nothing, and wham. Glad to give you and Hamper G a morning smile. I am so glad that your daughter isn't into snorting fertiliser - it gives Jewel really rotten breath.

  6. So great! I love the way cats studiously ignore a toy until they simply can't resist it any more... then, THE LEAP!!!
Jazz and Jewel are beautiful cats. I have just been lying on the couch watching "Frozen Planet", with Sophie draped across my shoulders, purring like an expensive and well-maintained engine. Thanks for sharing these lovely creatures.

    1. Alexia: Who would be without them. And the purring of a cat is such a magical sound. Years back I went to an adventure at the local zoo and was able to pat a cheetah. They purr too. Very loudly.

  9. Adorable clip! Milly the dog does the same thing with pistacchio shells on the balcony as the hard surface makes them scitter about....

    1. Kath: I would like to see the pistacchio toss. The acorn toss can go on all over the house. She often picks it up and trots into the bathroom where it makes most satisfactory noises.

  10. They look so much like my cats, but mine aren't as playful anymore. They all, however, flop beautifully. Wouldn't it be fun to make a black cat alphabet with their flop positions? I'm tempted, although I might get a few scratches out of it.

Thanks for the chance to adore your pusses.

    1. I can't see either of these babies stopping playing anytime soon. And the little black bitch that stayed with us until she was 21 was still not above a bit of playing right to the end.
Jewel is lazier, and I think will stop playing sooner.

  16. Thank you so much for the video! My favorite bit is the casual look over the shoulder before the pause-and-pounce! This made me laugh out loud. I've always thought that if one day my television dies, I can just watch my kitty playing for three hours every night and probably have a higher level of entertainment!

  18. love the 'limp' cat pics -- almost like an attempt at 'cat calligraphy'. are they trying to send messages? well, other than a direct request for a belly rub...

    1. daisyfae: I think the message was the demand for the belly rub. Request is a tad too polite.
