Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. I am still struggling (humidity rather than heat) and this post is more snippets from home.
Most of our dawns are galah coloured.
The early birds were corellas rather than galahs, and they were not looking for worms but hunting for seed. Which of course I provided.
A little while ago I showed you a shot of our front veranda, which is usually a cool haven. At the moment it is a cool and colourful haven as the begonias put on their display.
And yes, it is a haven for the spider too. I admired the web and left it be.
I hope you find a haven this week too. Our school holidays are about to finish. If my recalcitrant body allows it we have an excursion in mind. Watch this space...
Wonderful images, Sue. There is a whole air of tranquility about it all. I hope that your recalcitrant body springs into action for you and that you are able to carry through with your plans. Hugs from Ontario. David
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Thank you. I value tranquility. It is early here and the street is quiet. Fingers crossed my body will play nicely.
DeleteHi EC - just delightful to see ... very rose-coloured and stunning ... the skies are amazing ... while the verandah and garden look amazing ... Spring into Autumn for you I suppose - but I'd love to see them in our Spring early summer too ... As David so clearly knows - tranquility ... it is a quite delightful post ... thank you - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: February is often our hottest month. We will see, but yes, I will welcome autumn. As I do our colourful skies and the avian visitors.
DeleteLove the colorful sky shots.
ReplyDeleteMike: So did I. It is a grey morning here today. No colour in the sky, but the birds and the garden continue to blaze.
DeleteBeautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThe birds are amazing. We don't have any like that here.
Can't wait to see the excursion photos. Go someplace fabulous! 😊
Sandi: Thank you. We hope to go on our excursion later this week, but it might be next...
DeleteHi EC! Love those birds... they even match the color of the sky in your first shots. And your veranda is beautiful. I would have left the spider web be too!
ReplyDeleteRian: Lots of our dawns are galah coloured. Which I love. I am endlessly impressed and awed at spider architecture.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteThe galahs echo the dawn colours beautifully. your front veranda looks stunning with all the lovely colour.
Have a colourful week!
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. I do enjoy the front veranda - and so do the birds.
DeleteThe galahs are such a gentle looking bird, colors are lovely.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will switch from corellas to galahs. I will think about it.
Susan Kane: I am sure there is room in your heart for corellas AND galahs. The galahs can be cheeky charmers. They are not always gentle, but always beautiful.
DeleteGood morning! What a delight to see your lovely birds and blossoms, oh to be out of winter even for just this post! Breathtaking and enjoyable, and as for spider webs well that's one good thing about winter, (oh sure there are a couple more good things about winter) but those webs are not a problem in my world at the cold frozen moment! Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: We have spiders all year round. Which is fine by me. I thoroughly enjoyed your wintry post this morning, and hope that you continue to see its beauty. And that you can stay warm.
DeleteYour flowers are so beautiful, and I love the corella silhouetted against the sunrise!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you last night - I was reading the Prime Time Crime trilogy by Morgana Best. It's set in Australia, and it was fun to read about all the sights and sounds that you describe in your blog. (The protagonist has grumpy cats that scratch her, too, so it REALLY made me think of you.) ;-)
Unknown: Thank you. Australia is a big and varied country. I will have to investigate that trilogy and its author. Jazz hasn't scratched me for hours this morning... Not since two am.
DeleteArgh! Sorry, I didn't mean to be "Unknown". That's what I get for rebooting my computer. ;-)
DeleteI enjoyed the Prime Time Crime trilogy. It felt a bit slow to me in places, but it was probably an appropriate pace for a cozy mystery. I'm used to reading (and writing) at a faster pace, so sometimes it's nice to slow down. ;-) I just picked up the first in another series of her cozies, so I'm looking forward to some more enjoyable downtime.
Diane Henders: Thanks for clearing up that mystery. I am currently reading (slowly) a book about women lighthouse keepers. Not an easy life, but fascinating. I will be sad (but wiser) when this slow read is finished.
DeleteBeautiful the sky images, they are special.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Thank you. I never, ever tire of skyscapes.
DeleteLove the Corellas (little vandals) in silhouette against the dawn sky -- gorgeous! And my mom would have oohed and aahed over your Begonias. She had several varieties in the yard. Unfortunately, when she was no longer able to care for them, they withered under my watchful eye and lack of green thumb.
ReplyDeletemusicalsciencedoggies: I really liked the posing corellas too. The begonias are set and forget plants here. They receive no special care and come back each year.
DeleteMuch of the East Coast has seen some firey skies recently.I think it's probably due to left-overs from Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai's eruption. Beautiful for those of us who rise in time to see it!Your readers are glad!
ReplyDeletedinahmow: You could be right. A very gentle effect here if you are.
DeleteGood morning, EC. My maggies went missing for a little while but they are back again, loudly and regularly letting me know. And, I don't mind at all. It's great to have them back.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a good week ahead...and are able to do the excursion you have in mind to do. Take care...cuddles to Jazz. :)
Lee: I am glad that your maggies are back. They are an iconic bird that I love. Fingers crossed for our excursion.
DeleteThe galahs are indeed beautiful and I had to laugh at the corellas staking out their claim so early in the morning, greedy guts that they are!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your surroundings and will never tire of the skies, the plants, trees, flowers... everything you offer up.
I hope the humidity lessens for you. The roos and whatever else you discover are out there waiting for you. Take care and hugs always. Give my homage to Captain Spike.
River Fairchild: Lots of the birds arrive shortly before first light, knowing that they will be welcomed. I appreciated the very photogenic corellas even more than usual that morning.
DeleteI hope the humidity lessens (and isn't replaced by heat). Captain Slasher and I thank you.
Gorgeous birds, skys and flowers in such lovely pink hues!
ReplyDeleteAnne in the kitchen: Early morning is one of my most favourite times.
DeleteI love the color combination of blue, gold and black in the photos. Just amazing photos and thank for sharing your sky, birds, and beautiful begonias with us. I love begonias and I plant a few in large pots in my gazebo but I never save the bulb and buy new one every year. Do you keep your begonia bulbs in pots year round in your mild climate?
ReplyDeleteToday, it's been a big snow storm day with high wind and very cold.Snow is drifting everywhere. Your summery subjects are sweet balm for my eyes.
I hope that your body will be obedient tomorrow and cooperate.
Hugs,
Julia
Julia: Our much milder climate means that I can leave the begonias in pots all year round. Yesterday I noticed that one has escaped into the garden bed below. Fine. I hope it comes back next year (and blooms this year).
DeleteI do hope you can stay warm and safe and that the storm doesn't bring damage with it.
Your veranda is beautiful. Do you have some reclining chairs out there to relax and enjoy your flowers and birds? I love that photo of two birds against the sunrise. That's poster worthy!
ReplyDeleteStrayer: There are a couple of chairs on the veranda but the one I use most often is a bench. I can sit there in deep shade - and it is where we are able to hand feed some of the visiting birds. I was chuffed with the corella photos too.
DeleteThe begonias certainly are beautiful, the web too. I like the Corella silhouettes against the fiery skies.
ReplyDeleteRiver: I am a lucky woman aren't I?
DeleteThe photos of the silhouetted corellas are great.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: It was a gift - and one I was happy to take advantage of.
DeleteI love your beautiful dawn pictures, and the lovely birds as well. Begonias are some of my favorite flowers, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: I hope your back is settling. I really like the begonias - but I am too fickle to have favourite flowers.
DeleteThe galah-coloured dawn skies are so beautiful, and I love the vivid ones too, with the dark silhouettes of the corellas - early birds, indeed, just like you, EC!
ReplyDeleteI am extremely envious of your stunning begonias, too, and the cool veranda which they obviously thrive in.
I hope you are able to carry out your plans for an excursion - looking forward to lots of photos!
Take care of yourself, EC...
Alexia: Thank you. I am indeed an early bird (and often beat the feathered variety). Which is fine. Our veranda is home to a number of plants. The begonias, the hoyas, the cactus, the clivea, some orchids and a couple of potted maple trees. All of them are happy there - and we are happy to have found their perfect spot.
DeleteThis is such a gorgeous collection of photos and you know how those birds around there always really impress me, they are so beautiful! I sure hope you are feeling well enough for your excursion. I can't wait to see where we'll be visiting!
ReplyDeleteMartha: What a lovely thing to say. I really, really hope that this excursion comes off. Covid and my body have prevented several outings.
DeleteYour flowers are always a delight to see. The sky photos are beautiful as well. Hope the humidity lets up soon. Take care and have a wonderful week my friend.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: Thank you. I do worry about posting same old, same old Sunday Selections and am grateful for the kindness of my visitors. You have a wonderful week too.
DeleteYou seem to have a continual corella morning.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: We often have corella days. They are with us early and come back at the end of the day too.
DeleteThose are all delightful. Dawn is magic, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteMy selections will be over here.
meddymimi: The very best kind of magic. I look forward to your selections.
DeleteThese photos are special!! Some are spectacular!!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Caterina: Thank you.
DeleteSo much beauty! Love seeing the skies and garden shots. Hope you have a week in which you feel great! :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS ~Jess: And thank you too. I hope your week is packed with fun.
DeleteMuch beautiful skies to wake up to Sue and like you I love the peaceful Galah bird. Sorry you are struggling with the humidity. That is what get me when I am in Cairns. An adventure? How exciting. I am about to have one with my daughter, this week I fly to Tenerife to have a holiday with her. I hope you have a lovely week ahead.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Birding For Pleasure: Cairns heat and humidity is awful isn't it? My adventure is much smaller and tamer than yours, but I hope we both have a wonderful time.
DeleteWhen I see your gorgeous pictures the sunset skies and the colorful flowers I am getting depressed when I look out of my window ! It's all grey and foggy, cold and humid !
ReplyDeleteGattina: I am sorry. I certainly didn't want to depress you. Brighter days will come again. Soon I hope.
DeleteSuch lovely pictures, EC, and your veranda looks delightful. Terry and I are always seeking the shade here in Honolulu. The Hawaiian sun is dazzling. I would dearly love to visit Australia. Thank you for sharing your beautiful corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteFundy Blue: Thank you. I am sure that I would be joining you in seeking out the shade, and hope that you and Terry are having a marvellous, restorative trip. I hope you can visit us here some day.
DeleteThey are beautiful. I've never seen one in person. Beautiful skies and beautiful flowers. Even a beautiful spider web. A lovely post.
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you. You so often share beauties from you side of the world, which I wouldn't see without you.
DeleteThose galah are beautiful. Their pink breasts and grey wings make them not just lovely, but colorful, too.
ReplyDeleteYou have some glorious sunrises. It is amazing how beautiful they are and many of them feel like flames in the sky. The ones where you also capture the birds are especially precious.
Your begonias are amazing. I suspect they do very well in this humidity that has you feeling sluggish and poor. They certainly bring beauty to your veranda. I hope you feel better soon and the humidity drops a bit.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: Thank you. We see the galahs often, but they always make me smile. They often arrive early, and are equally often among the last birds at the feeder in the evening. The begonias are thriving this year. You may be right about them enjoying the humidity. Much of the garden (and particularly the weeds) has had a lovely summer.
DeleteWhat I would give to be able to hang out in your garden at sunrise! Gorgeous...Wishing you a sweet week ahead.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. I would be very happy to share the garden with you - at any time of day.
DeleteJust WOW! I love it all. Thank ypou for showing off these wonders.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): Thank you. I am so glad that you enjoyed these shots. It is not yet dawn, and I am wondering what dawn will look like today.
DeleteYesterday I had a lovely Zoom conversation with my cousin who lives in Mawson. She told me she was going to the lake with a friend to see the kangaroos.... I wonder if you have ever been there at the same time????
ReplyDeleteLove the galahs, so colourful!
Shammickite: I love hearing that other people also need a roo fix. And yes, I also wonder whether we have been there at the same time...
DeleteI loooove your verandah! What a haven.
ReplyDeleteI love the soft pink colour which is often called "orchid" and it has just now occurred to me that "galah" would be appropriate! Pretty, pretty things
kylie: Galah pink sums up most dawns here - and is a colour I love.
DeleteBeautiful post. xx
ReplyDeleteSorry been MIA, been so hot here and the lights in my craft haven send the heat even more making it hard to craft.... air con has broken down too....xx
If you are on facebook I invite you to join my new craft/sharing group

aussie aNNie: I am sorry that you have been beset by heat related woes. Not on FB, but wish you well.
DeleteA lovely post.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing the birds and your skies have been so beautiful. It never ceases to amaze me the beauty that nature can provide.
Here's hoping you are able to get your excursion arranged.
Enjoy the last day of January.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. Nature is my go to artist and never disappoints. I am still hoping to go on our excursion towards the end of this week (next week will be BUSY).
Deletei enjoy the photos
ReplyDeletedawns are very cutie
and the flowers so colorful..
i like the gradation of the afternoon sky. Have a nice day ^^
Gustyanita Pratiwi: Thank you. You have a wonderful day too.
DeleteI love the idea of galahs and colourful skies going together. It reminds me of the first time I saw a flock of them at dawn, like an animated sunrise, truly magnificent. Let's hope the humidity skedaddles soon, I'm not good with it either.
ReplyDeleteKim: Don't you think that galah colours and dawn go together beautifully? We don't usually see them in flocks, but half a dozen at a time is common. And welcome.
DeleteI'd be stoked with half a dozen at a time here, I get a pair when they feel like visiting. And, yes, I definitely agree about galahs and dawn.
DeleteKim: Galahs obviously find the nation's capital to their liking. Sometimes we see quite big flocks - which delights me.
DeleteBeautiful dawns EC, so well captured particularly with those birds. And your begonias are a delight. Curious about your plans, and I'm sure the planning is part of the pleasure.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: Thank you. I do hope that my/our plans come off - though they won't become imperative for a few weeks yet.
DeleteI just love those exotic birds, something I never see in Hawaii. And what a nice veranda with all those beautiful flowers!
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: I am more than sure that I would consider some of the birds near you exotic. The veranda is very colourful at the moment isn't it?
DeleteYour porch is looking lovely.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous birds and beautiful sunrise photos.
Hena Tayeb: Thank you. The veranda is cluttered and crowded, but it is looking bright and beautiful this month.
DeleteAll those beautiful flowers!! I am pea-green with envy. The sky pictures are fantastic. Have never seen birds colored like that, what a great photo.
ReplyDeleteSandy: I suffer from bird envy from your side of the world. Often. I am glad that you enjoyed our veranda in bloom - and that you marvelled at the skies too.
DeleteThose galah skies are beautifully soft looking, just like their namesakes. Your begonias are stunning, and that spider web is a work of art. I'm glad you let it be. Fingers and toes crossed that you get out for your excursion. Hope the humidity falls off soon. That's the part of our summers that bothers me most as well. Have a good week, dear friend.
ReplyDeletejenny_o: Grey skies this morning, with the barest hint of galah pink. Fog. Humidity. And hungry birds. If we are going to take that excursion it will need to be this week. Next week is getting crowded with a mix of tasks.
DeleteThank you dear friend. Take care of yourself.
I love the pink coloring on those birds, they are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are gorgeous.
Mary Kirkland: Thank you. Galahs are really pretty birds aren't they?
DeleteThose are many gentle skies, but my goodness the deep tangerine ones are incredible. You've got such a lovely view.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping the humidity lets up for you soon.
John Wiswell: I, like much of the rest of the world, have been spending more time at home - and grateful for the view from here. Humidity still high today. With luck it will ease towards the end of the week.
DeleteSo much peace and beauty in your photos! I love that you left the spider web as is...hope you're having a pleasant week.
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: Of course I let the spider be. There was a smaller web near the front door that I tried to photograph this morning. I haven't yet looked at the shots on the big screen and do hope they came out. Still sticky here and the dratted disease is thriving.
DeleteYour begonias are incredible...and I'll take some of your humidity with those brilliant skies. The skies are stunning but we are frozen and on our way to another epic snow storm on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteDonna: Thank you. If I could swap our weather I would do so. In a heartbeat. Stay warm and safe.
DeleteSo nice pink parrots. And really love the photos where are big birds against the beautiful sunset.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week.
orvokki: Thank you. I do really like our birds. And am a sucker for skyscapes.
DeleteDear EC, that is one big spiderweb; the kind that Spider Man could get entangled in!
ReplyDeleteI will try to visit some of the bloggers you mention here and in your most recent posting. I do a miserable job of following blogs, mostly became of pure laziness. I hope that in the six weeks I've been absent from the blogging world, your health has been good. I'm becoming so aware that not reading blogs for even a week, I can miss out on what is happening with friends far and wide--like you. Somehow, I need to take myself by the scruff of the neck, shake myself out, and find a routine that will enable me to keep in touch. The memoir on which I'm working--sporadically--constantly niggles at my mind and I sit and think and write in my mind. But--that is, I think, an excuse for not blogging. I so hope that I can get in the groove again! Peace. And please take care.
Dee: The web wasn't all that big - and was a master of architecture. Please don't be so hard on yourself. You have your own health issues, and your memoir deserves priority over visiting blogs.
DeleteHugs.
Your photo essay is perfect with the color of the birds blending with the sunrise colors as you move on. I love sunrise shots but seldom see a sunrise. However, I was fully awake at dawn this past weekend when we had three inches of snow and the skies were very gray. No pretty colors on that day. I hope you feel better and the humidity lessens. I, too, suffer in high humidity but must have a humidifier going in my bedroom in winter when the heat is blasting into the air. Take care and keep sharing life in your interesting place.
ReplyDeleteGlenda Beall: The idea of having a humidifier going in the bedroom gives me the shudders. However, if you need it, you need it. I see virtually every dawn, which is a facet of my peculiar sleeping habits. There is no virtue in it, but I am grateful for the beauty. Stay warm, stay safe.
DeleteOMCod, Sue. Your gardens are so extensive. The birds beautiful. The sunrises breathtaking. You have your own piece of heaven.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: Thank you. I am so grateful for the beauty that surrounds me.
DeleteAlways enjoy your Sunday Selections. The birds, flowers and skies are gorgeous, and I enjoyed the spider's web too. They are marvelous little engineers :) Looking forward to hearing where you go to on your trip. Happy travels!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you. Our outing is a day trip only, but I do hope that it comes off. And a big yes, to spiders as architects and engineers.
DeleteIncredible sky and birds ❤
ReplyDeleteKinga K.: Thank you. I am a lucky woman.
DeleteYour posts are always filled with such incredible colours! It's always a peaceful stop for me!
ReplyDeleteJemi Fraser: What a lovely thing to say. Thank you.
DeleteI love that your dawns are always galah colored:)
ReplyDeleteHugs
Sandra Cox: The skies are grey this morning, but the feathered galahs are here. Bliss.
DeleteAhh! I love seeing summer here. Tomorrow will be gray and cold with a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Yuk. But I have my secret weapon against the blahs by coming here :)
ReplyDeleteCarol Kilgore: I turn to photos from your side of the world when the heat gets too much for me. I hope that you stay warm, comfortable, and blah free.
DeleteWhat a beautiful dans photos! Colors are beautiful. Flowers are always beautiful and elegance. Thanks for the beautiful flower photos. Happy February.
ReplyDeleteCorrect words: What a beautiful dawns photos!
Deletebread&salt: Not a problem. I understood what you meant, and struggle with proofreading myself. I do love dawn and frequently head out with my camera at or just before first light.
DeleteYour birds and sunsets are beautiful. We've had some gorgeous displays here as well, the calms before the storms so to speak.
ReplyDeleteCourse, currently all our flowers are now buried in 3 feet of snow. :(
Juli: I hope your storms are not too ferocious. Stay warm, stay safe.
DeleteThe bird silhouetted against the dawn sky is fabulous. I love spider webs too.
ReplyDeleteKalpana: Seeing the corellas silhouetted against that dramatic dawn was a delight.
DeleteWe get the pastel pinks and blues in the sky of a morning, but I don't remember any of those rich oranges and reds here.
ReplyDeleteYOU take care of your wonderful self and have a splendid day, my friend.
Sandra Cox: That vivid morning was a rarity here too. Very rare, and a delight. Thank you - and take care of yourself too.
DeleteBeautiful pink birds. And your porch looks like a little corner of haven!
ReplyDeleteDrat!.....heaven.
ReplyDeletemolly: The galahs are lovely aren't they? And the veranda IS my haven, and as close to heaven as I will get.
DeleteThe birds are so beautiful and pink. 💕
ReplyDelete-Quinley
Quinley: Thank you. We really like them too.
DeleteYour dawns are spectacular and so are the birds. The galahs in the first picture are beautiful! I wouldn't mind a visit from them as well... Gorgeous begonias! Your front veranda does indeed look like a cool haven. Do you spend a lot of time there in the summer? I'm thinking a comfortable chair, a cool drink and a good book (and perhaps a cat).
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Thank you. I do spend time on the front veranda in summer. Usually without the cat, because the birds like the front veranda too. Sitting on that pink bench we can often hand feed some of them (though not the galahs).
Manuel: Thank you. The corellas just added to that beautiful dawn didn't they? And how lovely to learn that you also have begonias. Huge thanks for commenting on C.Lee.McKenzie's post too.
DeleteYour begonias are beautiful. We get them here too but the flowers are puny and nothing like you brilliant blooms. I am envious. I think I love the galah best of all the Aus birds, the pink with their white and grey is a wonderful combination. Your skies are just as pink as the galah! The corella silhouettes at dawn is perfect.
ReplyDeletekestrel: Our begonias have thrived this year. The blooms are bigger than I have seen them and more come out each day. I decorated one of our homes in galah colours (soft grey carpets and soft pink walls). It made me happy to come home.
DeleteWhat vibrant splashes of color, Sue. Thank you for sharing them with us. It is always such a joy to visit your posts.
ReplyDeleteDamyanti Biswas: What a lovely thing to say. Thank you.
DeleteWow, now that you point it out, yes, galahs do look like sunrise.
ReplyDeletehahaha because I'm the grand fool on the internet...I flipped between photos 8 & 9, back and forth, so it looked like stop motion, bird's head moving up and down. :-D
neena maiya (guyana gyal): How I wish you could have seen the corellas moving in real life. It was a huge treat.
DeleteI really enjoyed these pics. Not only that they are gorgeous but they bring so much calm and peace! Loved the spider web...he's one happy spider with all those beautiful flowers :)
ReplyDeleteCristina: Thank you so much. I hope the spider (and his relatives) are happy.
DeleteIt is a shame the hospital was torn down. We are tearing down every possible tree here to build and it's driving me crazy. Huge lots for the last few years. We'll have no trees soon and I don't understand it. Actually, I do ($$$), but I don't support it. The bird pictures you took against that gorgeous sky backdrop are stunners.
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: I always mourn trees that are pulled down, particularly for increased building. We NEED trees. And thank you.
Delete
