Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. Sorry, this has been another busy and sad week (we said goodbye to Jazz yesterday) so it is more snippets from home, and specifically from the garden. Spring is muscling her way in.
There is a lot of work that needs doing in the garden, but there is also beauty. For which I am thankful.
I am going to finish with a different selection. I recently finished a novel by Jane Lindkold called Changer. It wasn't an outstanding book but this paragraph has stayed with me.
'From the first time a human slung his leg up over some cooperative equine, thus freeing himself from the need to slog along on his own two feet, the faster and farther a human has traveled, the further he has traveled from knowing the land that he traverses...'
I hope you all have a healthy and happy week, packed with things of beauty.
I'm so sorry that your Jazz is no longer with you. He had a good long life and was well loved to the bittersweet end. I'm glad he's no longer suffering from his cancer and that you have good memories of him. I'm sure he is leaving a void in you and himself's lives.
ReplyDeleteAs we start to see fall advancing in increments you also see spring advancing as well. So many beautiful flowers to grace your life. I think my favorite are those happy little clusters of yellow flowers. I forgot the name of them.
Warm hugs from Canada.
Julia
Julia: Thank you. Wattle are happy plants and at the moment the streets in my city are blazing with them.
DeleteWhat an interesting quote.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is a delight and a balm.
dinahmow: That quote struck home for me. And a big yes to the garden. Definitely solace and healing there and guilt because of the neglected work.
DeleteI am sorry you had to say goodbye to Jazz.
ReplyDeleteCaterina: Thank you. It was the right thing to do, but makes our hearts ache.
DeleteLosing a pet is no fun. I'm sad for you.
ReplyDeleteMike: Thank you.
DeleteDear EC - so sorry to read about Jazz ... my thoughts ... the garden will bring you solace. Beautiful shots ... while that quote is very pertinent - when we corralled animals in to help us grow our species.
ReplyDeleteLovely Spring flowers ... we've had some rain, not enough - but at least not a deluge here on the south coast. I'll be complaining about the rain soon enough - with thoughts for the coming week and days ... Hilary
Hilary Melton-Butcher: Thank you. That quote struck me hard when I read it. And you are right about coralling animals so we could proliferate. I am glad that you have had rain - though what we receive is somehow never the right amount.
DeleteGosh I do love that quote EC and I am so very sad about your beloved Jazzman. RIP sweet and brave feline.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: Many thanks.
DeleteAbsolutely stunning to flowers, EC, they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: They are, aren't they? And more comes out each day.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about Jazz. My condolences.
ReplyDeleteSandi: Thank you.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you on the loss of Jazz. Our animal companions leave such a huge space behind them when they leave us, but also a lot of happy memories.
Thank you for the beautiful Spring flowers to enjoy.
Best wishes (and virtual hugs)
Ellie
Ellie Foster: They take a piece of us with them when they leave don't they? And thank you too.
DeleteMuch beauty to behold and bittersweet news to digest. Hugs to you, my dear friend and sister across the seas. I share your sorrow.
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: And the tears continue to fall. Thank you so much.
DeleteWarm, sincere hugs to you, EC. I'm so very sorry...so sad.
ReplyDeleteLee: We are very sorry and very sad, but Jazz's pain is gone.
DeleteThe two Js are together now and those lovely signs of Spring will help heal the hurt (a little)
ReplyDeleteAs far as horses are concerned I’d rather keep my feet firmly planted on the ground - Shank’s pony for me!
Cathy: I wonder whether the two Js get on better now? There was intense rivalry when they shared our home. I hope they do.
DeleteI am deeply sorry to hear of your loss. One of the most difficult things we face in this world. Please know that my heart reaches out to you. With much Aloha and fondness my dear friend. Your generous friendship means a lot to me. Jazz will be missed. ❤️🙏🏽
ReplyDeleteCloudia: It is difficult, but was essential. And yes, he is/ and will be missed. Badly.
DeleteDear EC - I am so sad to hear about Jazz. As you said, our pets "take a piece of us with them when they leave" - very true words.
ReplyDeleteI know that your lovely flowers will give you some comfort.
Alexia: I know that this pain is all too familiar to you. And it is a large piece they take with them. The garden does bring some comfort and we will plant a drift of bluebells over Jazz.
DeleteThat's a lovely idea...
DeleteAlexia: We think it is a good way to remember/celebrate him.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Jazz - my condolences. Pets are such important members of the family. Letting them go is so terribly hard, but it was your final act of love for him.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your beautiful garden - I hope you find comfort there.
Diane Henders: Definitely an act of love. And yes, the garden does bring me comfort. And hopefully will bring more.
DeleteOh, so sorry to hear about Jazz. And I am trying to keep my spirits up as many around me are suffering. I am in a holding pattern, but who knows for how long? I am sending you lots of love, dear friend. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteDJan: Hugs to you dear friend. You hang in too. Please.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about Jazz. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet. They are such an important part of our family. Take care, EC.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: They are indeed part of the family. Thank you.
DeleteJazz is gone already? :( :( :(
ReplyDeleteThe pink camellias are stunning. And the golden wattle too.
River: Jazz was in pain. We had no option and he is gone and now feels none.
DeleteLook at those flowers! The crocus are lovely. All are lovely. And Jazz is happier, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: The crocus are lovely aren't they - and are popping up everywhere. Jazz is certainly more comfortable.
DeleteBeautiful Jazz, so long! We all join you soon enough. You had it pretty darn good there with EC and the guy and the garden and the birds.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I really, really hope he enjoyed his life with us. I think he did.
DeleteAll of the blooms you show here are beautiful but the first is truly striking. I am thinking of you, dear heart sister. Let the tears for The Spiky One fall where and when they may. Hugs xx
ReplyDeletejenny_o: That first bloom is a crocus. I hope they thicken up and spread. And yes, the tears for the Spikemeister continue to fall. Hugs back to you. With thanks.
DeleteHello there. I forgot to mention this morning that I’d linked a post to Sunday Selections. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteCathy: I have been and thoroughly enjoyed your joyous post.
DeleteLovely photos of your spring flowers, the wattle here is coming out just.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: I cannot convince blogger that your comments are not spam. Spring is making her presence felt here, and the wattles are everywhere.
DeleteLovely pictures--- beautiful flowers. And I hope the sadness will lessen-- and be partially replaced with smiling memories. For what it's worth, riding a horse has been in the past the best way to experience and enjoy the things around me. Hugs...
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you. Jazz was a difficult cat and under the names he was known as in this house was Spike, and Psycho Cat. Just the same he was very much loved and is very much missed. With smiles.
DeleteSorry to hear the sad news about Jazz, Sue, but it was not unexpected. Enjoy many happy memories. The quote is very true. So many people have lost all connection to the land. And that's at the root of many of our problems.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Thank you. Not unexpected but no easier for that. I knew that quote would speak to you, as it did to me.
DeleteSorry to hear about Jazz. It's terrible when you lose them, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteCheers
PM
Plastic Mancunian: Really, really terrible.
DeleteMy heart goes out to you on the loss of your beloved Jazz. Although you have mentioned in the past that he was more your husband's cat, I am sure the loss is no less felt by you. I can only offer platitudes of sympathy, but I can assure you, I know exactly how you feel, having myself lost a cat who lived nearly 21 years. Being able to immerse yourself in your beautiful garden and lovely flowers will help ease the pain of your loss.
ReplyDeleteBleubeard and Elizabeth: Thank you. Jazz had a home in both our hearts and is sorely missed.
DeleteSorry about the dear pet! Memories of cherished times will stay with you forever surely.
ReplyDeleteOh this first flower has divine beauty!
All the smiles of the nature are exquisite though.
Blessings
baili: Thank you. That first flower is a crocus and I agree it is very beautiful indeed. Short-lived, but lovely.
DeleteSo sorry to hear about the loss of Jazz, and sending lots of hugs. As always, I'm appreciative of nature's beauty that you share so wonderfully. Hope you have a great week. Please know that while I don't visit nearly as much as I should, you stay close to my heart - always. RO
ReplyDeleteRO: Thank you. It is lovely to see you here - and I hope you are well.
DeleteOh no! I am so sorry about Jazz. Hugs, hugs, hugs, Child, and lots of love.
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe of the beauty you find, the way you seek it and share it. Thank you.
This morning, whilst walking in the sunrise, I was thinking about the way we travel without seeing. This is a quote every tourist should read: "...the faster and farther a human has traveled, the further he has traveled from knowing the land that he traverses..."
neena maiya (guyana gyal): Thank you. Beauty is an addiction for me and I am so very grateful that there is so much of it about. I loved that quote and am glad to find that it speaks to others as loudly as it does to me.
DeleteSo sorry to learn about Jazz's passing, though it was not unexpected. Take care!
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: Thank you.
DeleteWhat beautiful garden pictures! And I love that paragraph, too. It really resonates!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Varadan: That paragraph really spoke to me too - finding it made the book worthwhile.
DeleteOh no I'm so sorry about Jazz. Losing a pet is like losing a family member.
ReplyDeleteI find the older I get the more I appreciate nature. Nothing beats natural beauty, in every situation.
LL Cool Joe: JUST like losing a member of the family. And a big yes to natural beauty too.
DeleteMy condolences for the loss of your precious Jazz. No matter how long we have our pets, it's never long enough.
ReplyDeleteYour spring is delightfully beautiful, and yes, we have grown too far away from the land that sustains us.
My selections (although i'm sure you know this by now) are over here.
messymimi: Never long enough indeed. You are right, I have seen your selections and thoroughly enjoyed them. Thank you.
DeleteFabulous great colours and brilliant photos/ my eyes are slowly adjusting to everything, just makes one very tired xx
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: I am glad that your eyes are adjusting. Rest up.
DeleteOh That is very sad that Jazz is gone Sue. You will miss your cat. These are lovely spring flowers and a delight to see. I have returned from London and Sweden and my garden is full of summer flowers still. Hope you are keeping well and have a great week ahead. Thanks for your comments.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Birding For Pleasure: We do miss Jazz. Badly. I am glad that your summer flowers are still in bloom and that you have returned safely from your travels.
DeleteSorry to hear about Jazz, pets have short lives with us and we become attached to them so much. They are around giving so much love and joy. Your garden is lovely as always. I like this post pixs with the light purples esp the first striped tulip? The banksias look so heavy with flowers, they are stunning
ReplyDeletekestrel: So very attached. That first flower is a crocus and the banksias are wattles - the emblem of our land.
DeleteDear E.C.! I am so sorry to hear about Jazz. Your spring looks perfect. Flowers are amazing. Have a wonderful newweek. Greetings.
ReplyDeletebread&salt: Thank you.
DeleteSo sad for you to read about Jazz. You both gave each other a lot of joy and always hard to lose a beloved family member. These beautiful flowers are a lovely tribute.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: You are so right. Difficult as he was Jazz was a much loved member of the family and is sorely missed.
DeleteThese flowers are so beautiful! I love stopping by your blog to see such beauty <3 I'm really sorry about Jazz. I wish you all the strength and love.
ReplyDeleteDamyanti Biswas: Thank you. I am a beauty addict, and try to feature it often. Even on bad/sad days and weeks.
DeleteStrength to you in this time, EC. I'm sorry about Jazz. Jazz was lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: Thank you. We were lucky to share our lives with Jazz for a time.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Jazz. My condolences.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you.
DeleteYou have been in my thoughts this past week. I am so sorry about Jazz. Heartfelt condolences.
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: Thank you.
DeleteLovely pictures
ReplyDeleteRajani Rehana: Thank you.
DeleteOh beautiful spring flowers, crocusses, white violets and ohter for me normal spring flowers, and then suddenly the explosion of yellow wattle. So beautiful! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThere will from now on be a black, cat-shaped hole on your blog where Jazz should have been.
Charlotte (MotherOwl): The wattle is exploding all over my city - and the surrounding countryside which is lovely.
DeleteAnd there is a huge cat shaped hole in our hearts at the moment.
Gini and I offer condolences on Jazz's passing. It will take time to heal such a loss.
ReplyDeleteYour selection of lovely blooms makes us quite jealous! What blast of beauty!
Wally Jones: Thank you and Gini. You are right, it will take time but like lots of other furry companions he has a permanent home in our hearts. Spring is a vibrant time of year isn't it?
DeleteGorgeous! Just coming round to say I loved your answer to the July IWSG question -- I'd love to search for the Entwives with you!
ReplyDeleteDeniz Bevan: Thank you for stopping by. I still mourn the Entwives, decades after I first read about them...
DeleteSending you {{big hugs}} for your loss {{}}
DeleteDeniz Bevan: Many thanks. The tears are still flowing.
DeleteI'm so sorry about Jazz. They are never with us long enough xo
ReplyDeletekylie: Thank you. They aren't, and leave a huge hole in our homes and our hearts when they leave.
DeleteOh EC, that is such sad news about your Jazz. I hope the beautiful spring flowers are bringing you some comfort. The quote you shared is profound.
ReplyDeleteKim: Thank you. We knew it was coming, but it didn't/doesn't diminish the pain. I am glad that the quote spoke to you too.
DeleteSpring is coming...my 'lizard genes' are longing for warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo Newbery: It is coming fast and I hope that summer (my least favourite season) is not too hot on Spring's heels.
DeleteI came back to this post, as I hadn't realised you said goodbye to Jazz while Eddie and I were away on our short break.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry.
May the wonderful memories you have see you through the coming weeks.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Many, many thanks.
