Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week is again a bit same old, same old.
The possum has come back to visit us again (and is still staying out of our roof space). The apple he is eating is one we put out for the birds (but we don't begrudge him enjoying it). People with apple trees in the area will probably be happier if he is eating with us...
Then to Odie. The poor kittens were very sick for quite a while, and Odie was the sicker of the two. They finally seem to have picked up (and moved away from the one step forward, two steps back dance). Odie is enjoying playing in a shopping bag here.
Batty was fast asleep at the time. I had forgotten how noisy kittens can be as they 'thunder' through the house.
I am finishing with something completely different. Our roadside mowing is way, way behind. And this week as I gazed at the dandelions I realised I would never have seen the golden carpet if our local council was up to date.
I hope you find beauty in your week too.
He is enjoying the apple.
ReplyDeleteGlad the kittens are getting better.
Caterina: He made short work of the apple - and we are also glad that Battie and Odie seem to have turned the corner.
DeleteOh, he looks like a cute little bat mouse! Or possum! 😂
ReplyDeleteSandi: Too big for a mouse (or bat mouse). Definitely a possum.
DeleteWhat a joy for you to finally hear the thunder of kitten feet! I'm so glad Odie and Batty are finally feeling better. (And Odie is adorable.)
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: It is very good to hear that very loud thunder. Odie thanks you.
DeleteCute pics, EC. But your 'possum' looks different from our possum... and so happy that the kittens are doing better.
ReplyDeleteRian: Our possums (like so many Australian animals) is different to those found elsewhere. It is wonderful that the final lot of antibiotics worked for the kittens.
DeleteThat is great news about Odie and Batty, EC. The dear little pets are so lucky you came into their lives. Enjoy every moment you have with them....and cuddles from me to them.
ReplyDeleteI hope the coming week is kind to you all...take good care.
Lee: Thank you. I hope this week is much better for you and Shama.
DeleteI'm so glad that Odie and Batty are finally progressing! Yay! Please bestow scritches on them for me please.
ReplyDeleteI'd think those flowers would be good for the bees and butterflies. Too bad they normally mow them down.
Your possum is safe as long as nobody tells the birds that he's eating their food. ;)
Take good care of yourself in the coming week! Not too long before your sweaty season starts up.
River Fairchild: Thank you. On all counts. Our sweaty season is generally well and truly here by now, but seems to be delayed. I am not missing it at all.
DeleteI think that roadside mowing should stop altogether. Those ribbons of greenspace provide habitat for all manner of creatures, and goodness knows we have eliminated so much. I am glad to see that the possum is still paying you a visit and that the kittens finally seem to be on the mend. It has been a good week in your house.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: As you might remember my city has a lot of green space (though the current government is diminishing it). I take your point though. Some mowing needs to be done for road safety purposes (sometimes the grass is over four feet high, but we do need to maintain our greenspace).
DeleteLove the serenity in your life that every frame is so peaceful to look at
ReplyDeleteroentare: What a nice thing to say. Thank you. I am a collector of serenity and beauty.
DeleteYes! Cats can thunder about! Even pixie gets the bug from time to time. So glad they're feeling better. Holiday blessings, my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteOh and I enjoyed seeing the possum!
DeleteCloudia: Jazz was an occasional thunderer as well. It is indeed lovely to see/hear. And thank you.
DeleteHi EC - lovely to see the possum ... maybe he'll stay around if there are apples out there for his pleasure; dandelions ... so wonderful in a flower meadow - I feel as David does ... they shouldn't be mown ... or maybe a strip left of uncut ...
ReplyDeleteMore importantly - so glad the kitties are slowly picking up - good for them ... take care and cheers - Hilary
Hilary Melton-Butcher: I am in favour of a less manicured city too. And very glad that the kittens are thriving at the moment and that the possum continues to visit.
DeletePossum: 'I can.'
ReplyDeleteCats as cats can.
And you and Himself? Hopefully well as well.
Dandelion in German is called 'Löwenzahn' (liontooth). It can't bite mowers, though.
Sean Jeating. I did know about liontooth. While mowers do bite them so do the sulphur crested vandals when they find them in our 'lawn'.
DeleteDo brush tails get into roofs? You would ceiling thumping as well as cat made floor thumping. In our last house we started putting apples out for possums until cats learnt of the nightly possum visits. The result was not pretty, so we stopped interfering with the nature of the universe.
ReplyDeleteUnmown grass seems to be an Australia wide problem and like you, I have noticed a lot of grasses in bloom.
Andrew: They can and do get into the roof space. As my last Sunday Selections detailed sometimes with awful results. I 'think' our roof is secure. I hope so.
DeleteSo very glad to hear the kitties are well enough to play! Those determined eyes make me realize how much they are little feline monsters. And I love the pretty dandelions and the sweet possum. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: Hooray for the warm fuzzies. And yes, they can be monsters. Happy, healthy monsters.
DeleteThe news on the Batty and Odie front is wonderful. The fact they are playing is great news.
ReplyDeleteNice that the possum is eating your apple. I hope it doesn't cause damage to your hone as a thank you! Your possum is much different and cuter than ours in the states.
I know people who put all kinds of dandelion killer on their lawns. They probably hate me because I encourage the dandelions., I think the parking areas are fabulous.
I further you two are finally also on the mend. Please stay safe and cool (because I am FREEZING here ), dear EC.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth. Thank you. So far the possum hasn't caused any damage which is lovely. And it is even more lovely that the kittens are much better.
DeleteI try and avoid poison. It is a totally indiscriminate killer and takes out things that were not targeted - and their deaths are often nasty.
It looks like all is well with the kitties and it puts a smile on my face. The bush possum is enjoying the apple and the bees are enjoying the dandelions and all seems to be well in your with nature in your world. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julia
Julia: I am so very glad to see nature thriving.
DeleteSo glad to see and hear that the kittens are finally doing better - a lot better, hopefully. They were so lucky to have you to look after them, EC.
ReplyDeleteOur son and 5 year old granddaughter arrive from Barcelona on Wednesday, so we are pretty excited! They will be here for a month (daughter-in-law is staying with her aged parents in Italy, as they are both very frail).
I hope you all have a pleasant and enjoyable Christmas and New year, that the weather isn't too exhausting, and that you are feeling better after your dose of Covid. Kia kaha!
Oh - and I agree with David!
DeleteAlexia: How wonderful for you. It has been way too long since you have seen your son and granddaughter. Seeing them will ensure that your holiday season is totally enjoyable.
DeleteThank you - and I don't disagree with David either. Though I do like to be able to see across the road at intersections.
Oh the possum! Priceless! Love the photos! They must be a nuisance for the apple orchards though.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Thank you. Possums can be a nuisance for vegetable growers and for all those with fruit trees.
DeleteThe past couple of years I've seen all kinds of roadside flowers I typically don't see because of budget cuts.
ReplyDeleteMike: I see dandelions often - but not in this sort of profusion.
DeleteYou take me back to my township days. Ohio township law said the first mowing must be before June 20th, the last before (I think) October 20. Don't get between our super and his tractor when mowing was mandated.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Our winters are milder than yours. Mowing continues all year round - except when it is too wet. Which has often been the case over the last few months.
DeleteThat's a happy critter, enjoying his snack.
ReplyDeleteOdie is a cutie-bug, i'm glad he's doing better.
Isn't it nice to see the wildflowers sometimes!
Forgot to add, my selections will be over here.
Deletemessymimi: Thank you. And hooray for happy critters (and cutie-bugs). I look forward to your Selections each and every week.
DeleteI'm so happy to see Odie playing! And to hear two cats thundering through the house must be a delight after all the past weeks. The golden dandelions are pretty and will soon be replaced by fluffy white seed heads. possums!! Don't get me started. Noisy little so and so's.
ReplyDeleteRiver: We ARE happy to hear the thunder of the kittens. Those fluffy white seed heads will spread the seeds far and wide.
DeleteI love these, especially the animals. so glad the kittens and you are better.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. How are you and Lukas doing?
DeleteI'm tired but okay and Lukas is not wanting his pills, so having to get creative with his treats
Deletee: I hear you on the tired front - and good luck with Lukas's pills. It can be a definite challenge.
DeleteI've been missing a couple of pets we had when we first moved into our present home-- a dog and a cat. I'd give a lot to have them in my computer room tonight.
ReplyDeleteBill: I feel for you. It is the animals (not including himself) which make a house a home for me.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased to hear the kittens are improving - it has been a horrible time for you all. I miss not having a cat here, even though our visitor cat is still visiting and making himself at home, it's not the same. In the UK, the councils are only cutting the very edge off the roadside, so we see more wild flowers and there is more area for wildlife. It is lovely to see. The possum photos are fascinating too.
All good wishes for a happy and healthy week
Ellie
Ellie Foster: It is wonderful to see the kittens feeling well enough to do kitten things. Just mowing the edges would work - though our council is well behind even on that.
DeleteI have never seen a possum. Very cool!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the cats. I know how worrisome they can be. I am glad they are moving along, if a step back.
Jenn Jilks: Our possums are nocturnal and we very rarely see them either. I am so very pleased that the kittens are finally in recovery mode.
DeleteThe dandelion is such a pretty flower. I'm so sorry everybody think it's a weed. I like your psooum too, much nicer that the four-legged menaces eating our apples (Rats! - we live in the countryside, people - and we - have horses, chicken, apple trees and so on - I put up traps, and the communal rat-catcher does the same, mine are the best).
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): I agree with you about dandelions, and am really enjoying the golden carpet. We have rats too, but the possum is MUCH bigger than they are. I believe our possum catchers have a full time job capturing and relocating possums that have moved into homes.
DeleteOdie, es exactamente igual que un gatito callejero, que frecuenta mi calle.
ReplyDeleteVENTANA DE FOTO: If Odie had not been rescued he would have been a street cat too. A street cat with a hungry and limited future.
DeleteJoyful post..i like your possum.
ReplyDeleteashok: Thank you - we like the possum too.
DeleteBatty and Odie have really been through the mill, as have their humans. I'm so glad they are so much better and honestly, could they be more cute?
ReplyDeletekylie: They have been through the mill. Which ground them and us very small. And yes, Odie is super cute (as is Batty.
DeleteHello, what a pretty closing photo, such a beautiful day. So happy to hear the kitties are better, and yes they are just an incredible source of joy, as it's been a few years now but each of my children had their own kitty and of course the neighbor Tom Cat would always happen by and we were blessed with kittens every single time! Enjoy your week and that incredible weather as we are in a deep freeze for a bit it seems. Take care hugs to the kitties!
ReplyDelete21 Wits: We are much cooler than usual for the time of the year - for which I am grateful. I suspect others are not. Stay warm, stay safe, and thank you.
DeleteOdie is so darn cute! So happy he is better. The possum is cute too, way cuter than our possums here.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: A cuteness overload? Which is a nice change from Plague Central that had been ruling here.
DeleteSo glad you all are getting well, even the kittens. The dandelions are so pretty and makes me long for spring. What a cute possum and yes, he is much cuter than the ones we have here in NC or Georgia.
ReplyDeleteGlenda C. Beall: Thank you. We are indeed getting better - which is lovely. Our summer has been gentle so far, but I suspect that soon I will be wishing it away.
DeleteThe beauty and cuteness of animals, that's what you are showing us here.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: I see beauty (and often cuteness) in animals too.
DeleteThe cold and dreariness here, those dandelions are such a beautiful sight.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: We are in summer here - though the temperatures are much cooler than usual. I hope you can stay warm.
DeleteSince I am no longer raising chickens, I do not have as many intruders on the place, stealing the eggs and sometimes killing my chickens. Happy Holidays to you and yours. See you next year.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie: Our possums would not steal your eggs or your chickens. The cats might given half a chance. Happy holidays to you too.
DeleteAw, that kitty.
ReplyDeleteLove to you, EC. Enjoy all the beauties in and outside of your wonderful self.
Rawknrobyn: Thank you. I am a beauty addict and find some of it to revel in every day.
Deleteoooooh that possum is adorable. I once saw one in a park, one night, in Oz. It came down to stare at me and my friend. I melted!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great news about kitties <3
Let the dandelions grow, I say. :-)
neena maiya (guyana gyal): Possums are super cute aren't they? Outside. They make my heart melt too.
DeleteOh that possum is too cute. I'm glad Odie was feeling well enough to play. The flowers are quite pretty.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you. We are thrilled that Odie feels well enough to play too - even at 2am.
DeleteI think the possum looks cute and so does Odie.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see him play.
I liked seeing the dandelions, a very nice carpet of yellow.
Have a good week ahead.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you so much. I hope your week ahead is not too busy - and a heap of fun.
DeleteI did find beauty in my week and I found it right here visiting you. You put so much thought into each and every post you do. My eyes are no longer working to allow me to see your photos and I have a program that reads your post to me so in my minds eye I can envision each and every image. I’ve missed visiting with you, take care my friend❤️
ReplyDeleteLorie mck: It is truly lovely to see you here, despite your eyes. I have missed you. Thank you and thank you.
DeleteYay to the kitties feeling 💕 better. Apples 🍎 are a yummy 😋 treat for everyone, and 😊 Thanks for your kindness and always thinking of others. Many hugs, always 🤗 RO
ReplyDeleteRO: I really appreciate your visits, even when you have stopped blogging. For the moment I hope. Thank you, your hugs are gratefully received - and reciprocated.
DeleteOpossums live all over the US too, but they're in a different suborder than yours, so they look a bit different.
ReplyDeleteRoadsides often aren't mowed here until various flowers have bloomed.
I hope Odie and Batty continue to prosper.
Snowbrush: Our possums and your opossums are indeed different beasts. Our roadside grasses have reached four and five feet tall over our very wet spring.
DeleteOdie and Batty are continuing to do pretty well at the moment - which is lovely.
Wonderful photos, Enjoyed this, I had a opposum, who can visiting at night and I named Harvey. Unfortunately, I have not seen him in ages.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: Thank you. I hope Harvey has just moved on and is still thriving somewhere.
DeleteHooray for lazy local council workers! You found a real vein of gold as a result!
ReplyDeleteGood news that the cats seem to be doing better. Sure hope that continues.
Gini and I are healthy again and have been trying to make up for lost time by exploring every day. This week, however, we're busy preparing for a large family Christmas Day Dinner. Lots of work but totally worth it.
We hope you feel well and we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Wally Jones: The carpet of gold is a delight isn't it?
DeleteI am glad that you and Gini have recovered your health and unsurprised that you are exploring again. I hope your Christmas Gathering is packed with love and laughter.
kestrel here. I am glad they did not cut down the dandelions, blast of gold by the road. The possum is enjoying his little treasure, I hope he gets more apples. I read that possums ply dead when they are really scared. Your possum was probably too hungry to be scared. Glad to hear Odie is on the road to recovery, has lovely stripes
ReplyDeleteBeau Bo/kestrel: Thank you for identifying yourself. We have taken to put out an apple for the possum at the end of the day - and he does seem to be enjoying them. Odie's markings are lovely aren't they?
DeleteWhen I was in college, I had to do volunteer time for an environmental science class. I chose the local conservacy and spent a semester taking care of Patty the o'possum. Her mother had been hit and killed by a car and she was alive in the tummy. She was grown when I met her and very nice. The only thing initially a bit of a startle to me was her tail hanging down my shoulder, but I got used to it after awhile too. :) Glad you have progress with the cats!! And here's to the Dandelions!! They were my favorite 'flower' as a youth!
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: Our possums are different to your o'possums but sadly they too are often hit by cars. And some are rehabilitated. Which is lovely.
DeleteI'm way late again - my apologies.
ReplyDeleteThe dandelions look so cheerful, it truly is beautiful! I do see David's point, but I also always have wildfires in mind when I see areas that are not maintained. If it's not mowed and dries up, it becomes fuel for fires. And that is something we can happily do without. It's difficult to find a good middle ground.
I'm glad that the kittens are doing better now and I hope it keeps like that. Odie looks very sweet and a bit mischievous.
Carola Bartz: Apologies are not necessary. You are welcome whenever you find time to stop by. I hear you on the fire risk - and five foot high dry grass is certainly that. Middle ground is desirable - as it so often is. Odie is indeed mischievous - and I am thrilled that he is well enough for this side of him to emerge.
DeleteGlad the kitties are feeling better. I love hearing mine run about the house. I adore dandelions- and am so glad the ones near you lasted longer than usual! :) ~Jess
ReplyDeleteDMS ~Jess: Hearing the kittens thunder around the house is a totally joyful sound isn't it? And yes, I have a weakness for dandelions too.
Delete
