Sunday Selections #789

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week?  Not so much.  Odds and sods which have caught my eye.

Spring is definitely well on the way in our garden.

Wattle Day isn't until September 1st, but the wattles in our garden (and much of the city) are already blazing.

There are signs of Spring in the city too.

I continue to delight in the sky.

And Batty gets better by the day.  Odie missed him but he smelt funny when he got home so Odie continued to be stressed.  Both of them are happy chappies now.

I hope all is well in your world's too.

I usually run with a theme. Last week was another very difficult week.  So I am going to post about happy things again.  Frost bubbles which didn't happen this year - but may next.  I can hope.

It was of course mostly Batty's health which made for a difficult week.

After major surgery he developed pneumonia and his asthma became worse.  At times he was oxygen dependent.  He had numerous scans, x-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests.  And a ride in the pet ambulance when he was on oxygen and needed to be transported between vets.  He was of course on antibiotics.  The pneumonia was lessening and his wound was healing.  He flatly refused to eat and was becoming weaker.  One of the vet practices involved provides cat television with images of birds and mice.  He apparently liked that.

He came home with us several times and went back again.  He spent nights in emergency care.  The vets were baffled but said that we shouldn't give up (as an aside he has won their hearts - many of them have commented what a sweet boy he is).  I finally tempted him to eat some treat food.  That was to his liking but he wouldn't eat anything else.  We have him home again.  Pilling him is not fun.  For anyone.  I am stressed, himself is stressed, Odie is stressed.  Batty is glad to be home  and purring.  He finally (knock on wood) seems to have turned the corner.  Back to the vet (hopefully for the  last time) next week when hopefully we will have further broadened his diet.  I am running on empty but much less worried than I was.

I will post some photos of the punk pussy later.  He has had several major shaves.  Tummy.  Shoulders, both forepaws, throat....

Thank you for your messages and emails of support.  Very much.

Batty

Batty is home - which didn't look likely for a while there.  However he is not doing well and Odie is stressed to the max so they are where my focus is.

Back in a bit.  And when they open I will be ringing the vet again.

I usually run with a theme. Last week was a very difficult week.  I am so glad that I went to my happy place the week before.

Now for an explanation about the difficult part.  On Wednesday morning Batty was obviously far from well.  He was wheezing, off his food (which is unheard of) and unhappy.  We were lucky and got a vet appointment.  Yes, he had a chest infection.  However when she attempted to take his temperature she observed a piece of wrapping ribbon emerging from his nether regions.  It seems that somehow he had found a piece and eaten it.  An x-ray confirmed that he had a blockage and urgent surgery was required.  Surgery that was likely to be complicated by his chest infection and his asthma.  Surgery done, he needed to be monitored.  Our vet does not have staff there for twenty four hours.  So he had to be transferred to another vet.  The next morning we picked him up and took him back to our own vet (and I had a Lifeline shift).  That evening was a repeat of the first.  On Friday afternoon the vet said that we could take him home on a trial run.  A failure.  We had to go back to the vet yesterday.  Poor little Batty has pneumonia (as well as multiple stitches from his surgery).  The twenty four hour vet we had been using was full.  So we took him to a different one on the far side of town where he will spend this weekend receiving oxygen and regular painkillers.  We will need to pick him up on Monday  morning (early) and take him back to the regular vet who will make an assessment.
Aaargh.  Cross your fingers for him please.
