Sunday Selections #788

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. Last week was another very difficult week.  So I am going to post about happy things again.  Frost bubbles which didn't happen this year - but may next.  I can hope.

It was of course mostly Batty's health which made for a difficult week.

After major surgery he developed pneumonia and his asthma became worse.  At times he was oxygen dependent.  He had numerous scans, x-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests.  And a ride in the pet ambulance when he was on oxygen and needed to be transported between vets.  He was of course on antibiotics.  The pneumonia was lessening and his wound was healing.  He flatly refused to eat and was becoming weaker.  One of the vet practices involved provides cat television with images of birds and mice.  He apparently liked that.

He came home with us several times and went back again.  He spent nights in emergency care.  The vets were baffled but said that we shouldn't give up (as an aside he has won their hearts - many of them have commented what a sweet boy he is).  I finally tempted him to eat some treat food.  That was to his liking but he wouldn't eat anything else.  We have him home again.  Pilling him is not fun.  For anyone.  I am stressed, himself is stressed, Odie is stressed.  Batty is glad to be home  and purring.  He finally (knock on wood) seems to have turned the corner.  Back to the vet (hopefully for the  last time) next week when hopefully we will have further broadened his diet.  I am running on empty but much less worried than I was.

I will post some photos of the punk pussy later.  He has had several major shaves.  Tummy.  Shoulders, both forepaws, throat....

Thank you for your messages and emails of support.  Very much.

  1. Frost bubbles! That should make Batty happy. I know it will make you happy.

    1. Mike: Batty doesn't give a rat's fundament about bubbles. I wish I had been able to make them this year though. We had one day that was 'almost' cold enough last week but it involved an early morning rush to the vet instead.

  2. River Fairchild - I’m so happy to hear he’s finally turning the corner and seems more content. Hopefully the stress will ease from the rest of you in the household.
Bubbles would have been nice for you to have. I’m sorry it didn’t happen. The weather is so out of wack everywhere anymore and not likely to improve without the human inhabitants gaining more brain cells.
Hugs to you and I’m grateful for the Batty updates. ❤️

    1. River Fairchild: Thank you. He has had some breakfast this morning (normal dry food). I take that as a win. Humans getting (or using) more brain cells? Queue hysterical laughter. Hugs received and reciprocated.

  3. Hi EC - I've been with you ... and do so hope all will be well for Batty ... take care - all of you look after yourselves. I hope the frost bubbles will ease your thoughts briefly ... with thoughts and a hug or two ... cheers Hilary

  4. I was hoping so much that your radio silence didn't mean the worst, and I'm glad it didn't. But you have all had a hard, hard time of it. Of course you are running on empty. You are amazing in your dedication, though. A vet once said the same to me about a very sick cat we had (don't give up on him) and it was very comforting. I hadn't known whether to risk putting him through more or not, and that was a clear answer. I hope the recovery graph for Batty will be a steady upward trend, and I hope you get some rest and some relief from the stress. Hugs, heart-sister. Big hugs.
