Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week we are going back to Floriade and focussing on the explosion of colour. Settle back with the beverage of your choice.
You have heard me mentionwhinge that Floriade is commercial. It is. Just the same how much we spend is up to the individual. We spent very little. The cost of the Ferris Wheel was small. We also (as usual) stopped at the Floriade shop where I picked up some fridge magnets.
I am happy to send a fridge magnet to anyone who would like on on a first come best dressed basis. Let me know in the comments if you would like one and which one. Due warning there will be one less available because himself hasn't yet indicated which one he wants to keep.
I also picked up some postcards.
Again let me know if you would like one - and if you would like it sent in an envelope so that you can send it on yourselves. If I don't already have your address my email address is in my profile.
Thank you for sitting through yet another very photo heavy post. Have a bright and wonderful week.
Muy buenas composiciones florales, en los jardines.
ReplyDeleteTodo es belleza y color.
Feliz domingo de descanso.
VENTANA DE FOTO: They are lovely splashes of colour aren't they? You have a good Sunday too.
DeleteThese are so beautiful 🤩 Thank You friend 💕
ReplyDeleteCloudia: I am always happy to share beauty.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - Such an explosion of color! Beautiful and I bet the view from the Ferris wheel is amazing. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI hope the coming week is uneventful for you. Sending you hugs from across the sea where my weather is somewhat dreary.
River Fairchild: The view from the Ferris Wheel is good, across some of Floriade and the city centre. A busy week ahead but I hope relatively calm. Hugs to you. Always.
DeleteI like the ferris wheel and still think it was brave of you to get on that. we have so many high profile ride failures in the U.S., but compared to the number of rides, including ferris wheels, I would guess overall they're very safe. Very beautiful flowers there. I can't imagine the work of planting all those bulbs!
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Relatively speaking ferris wheels are very safe. I suspect we are at more risk on the roads. It would have been a lot of work designing the beds and doing the planting but Floriade has a team of employees. Tulip Top Gardens depends on family assistance.
DeleteA rainbow of colors. Do they ever spell words or create images?
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: I haven't seen them spell out words or images at Floriade but there is a garden bed in the city that regularly spells out words. I will try and capture it next time I see it.
DeleteThank you for sharing these with us. The violet blue flowers to the right of the wheelbarrow are eye-catching! What are they called?
ReplyDeleteSandi: That was a bed of pansies. Beautiful things particularly when planted en masse.
DeleteThanks, Sue!
DeleteSandi: It is my pleasure.
DeleteBeautiful pics... especially those in 4th shot (pink curly tulips?). Would love to see more pics of Jazz and Jewel!
ReplyDeleteRian: Pink curly tulips they are. Jazz and Jewel have both crossed the bridge though they have a permanent home in my heart. I must update the blog. Our current residents are Batty and Odie, rescue cats who also have claimed a place in our hearts.
DeleteSehr schöne Blumen und Blüten in den unterschiedlichsten Farben.
ReplyDeleteGruß
Noke
Noke: Thank you. This is an annual treat for us.
DeleteGood morning, and heavy post of beauty, what incredible joyfulness this is, as you are in one of my most favorite times of the year, each new blossoming is a coming of newness and joy, and how one must not miss a moment of it. Enjoy your new week ahead, and take good care of you.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: It is one of my favourite seasons too - though I look for and find beauty all year round.
DeleteAbsolutely magnificent tulips! I love them all!!!
ReplyDelete
DeleteDJan: The scent and the colour were a joy which I wish I could share more fully.
The magnificence of the colourful flowers...their beauty is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, EC. May the week ahead be kind to you in every way. Take good care. :)
Lee: It is a treat isn't it? I hope the week is kind to the world. So much I hope it.
DeleteWatching all these flowers, while having a pint of Guinness and a wee dram of Talisker within reach, the word 'splendiferous' came to my mind.
ReplyDeleteSean Jeating: The designers and workers would be very, very pleased to hear that - though they would prefer that you bought your beverages from one of the many vendors at Floriade.
DeleteHa ha. Why should I leave my cosy study, when you are doing the visits for me. ;-)
DeleteThe peace of the night, Sue.
Sean Jeating: To put more money in my city's coffers of course. Enjoy your evening. It is just after eight in the morning on our first day of daylight saving time here.
DeleteYour photos are always so beautiful. I would like a magnet, but since I am in USA, I think it would be a problem.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: Not a problem at all. I have often sent Floriade magnets overseas. If you let me know your name and address (here or in an email) I am happy to send one to you.
DeleteLooks like an extravaganza of color. Beautiful! 😻
ReplyDeleteDebby: It was and it is.
DeleteA beautiful explosion of color, Sue! It may be a commercial event, but the beauty would likely not exist without the commercial funding.
ReplyDeleteFundy Blue: I take your point and my city would agree with you, but Tulip Top Gardens (two Sunday Selections ago) proves them wrong. One family plants and runs it and despite the small entry fee it is not commercial at all. I don't know how they do it - but am grateful that they do.
DeleteI enjoyed seeing your Tulip Top Gardens post a couple of weeks ago. Didn't you say the main gardeners were in their 70s? That's amazing!
DeleteFundy Blue: They are. And do the designing and most of the planting themselves. Which blows me away. And shames me.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that boost of beautiful spring colour. It is soon going to be tulip planting time over here and I was planting some alliums this afternoon.
Have a joy and colour-filled week
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Himself planted some tuberose begonias the day before yesterday while I weeded. More weeding is on the agenda today and perhaps some rose pruning.
DeleteThe colours are just amazing, I enjoyed seeing all of your photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
PS Blogger does play up from time to time, but your comment on the low carb diabetic blog came through okay, thank you.
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. It really was a delightful wander and I am pleased that my comment went through (finally).
DeleteIn spite of my defective memory, I suggest the displays are better than last year. I love the photo of the pink flowers with the ferris wheel in the background.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: We thought it was a better display too. A new garden designer.
DeleteBeautiful. What a treat. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I am very pleased you enjoyed it.
DeleteAlways a joy to see your photos, such a beautiful show and so many pots to put in place to make it beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these lovely photos with us, EC.
Margaret D: It is an impressive display isn't it?
DeleteSure is, EC.
DeleteOceans and rivers of glorious colour! I love the pink tulips amongst the purple pansies. I'd love a fridge magnet with the ferris wheel if one is still available or a post card with the ferris wheel.
ReplyDelete
DeleteRiver: A fridge magnet with a Ferris Wheel is yours. So far apart from an anonymous commentator no-one has expressed any interest.
Hi Sue - those are amazing to look at ... Coffee for me ... gosh oh how I look forward to Spring days ... grey gloom here - yet yesterday was 'warm' and blue ... just stunning. Should there be a postcard still on offer - I'd love one ... but no worries if not ... the Autumn colours will glow soon. Have a good week - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I am happy to send you a postcard. Do you have any preferences? And would you like it in an envelope?
DeleteLet's see--- Fridge magnet-- Petals to the metal? Gorgeous pictures. Hugs from the northern half.
ReplyDelete
DeleteBill: Probably petals to the plastic these days. Would you like one?
I am looking at this early in the morning, Sue, so my beverage of choice is coffee. Damn, I should have waited until six o’clock tonight. There’s a bottle of fine Australian wine on the kitchen counter!
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Which Australian wine? Perhaps you could look at these photos again this evening?
DeleteIt’s a Wolf Blass Yellow Label.
DeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I hope you enjoyed it.
DeleteMy beverage of choice is coffee with milk, and I'm glad I settled in to mosey on through the photos because of course, they are gorgeous.
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: It was a spectacular event.
DeleteSeeing all those thousand and thousands of blooms is really stunning. Just imagine how much work and planning and man (or woman) hours has gone into this event. All the colours are uplifting after the winter I'm sure. Although your winter isn't quite as forbidding as ours. My beverage in the morning.... haha Nescafe Instant... yes I'm a philistine.
ReplyDeleteShammickite: My beverage of choice (when my tummy allows it) is chai. Sadly I had to give up coffee decades ago. There is a HEAP of work which goes into planning, establishing and maintaining Floriade.
DeleteIt's overwhelming. All that beauty and colour is a feast for the spirit and thank you so much for sharing with us all.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: It is overwhelming. By the end of our excursion my mind, my body, my eyes were very, very tired. I am glad we went - and happy to share.
DeleteThanks for sharing these colorful beauties with us.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: It is my pleasure.
DeleteTruly a floral colour explosion. Thank you for such beauty!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): I wish you could see it in the flesh.
DeleteWoo-hoo! More incredible floral color from Floriade!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for helping cheer us up as yet another storm is knocking at our door.
Otherwise, all is good here.
Wally Jones: It is good to see you here. I hope that Helene didn't hit you too hard and that Milton is kinder than expected.
DeleteSuch a splendid idea to plant spring flowers inside a pink wheel barrow. Everywhere looks really beautiful! I am loving your series from Floriade. Thanks for sharing another one with us and wishing you a great week.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: There were lots of coloured wheelbarrows filled with spring flowers. They were a lovely touch weren't they?
DeleteGoodness those flowers are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: They were. They are.
DeleteSuch beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteRomance Reader: It is an incredible sight isn't it?
DeleteWow, what a display! I love spring bulbs even though (or maybe because) they're so ephemeral. Wishing you all the joys of springtime! :-)
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: I love them too. Their ephemeral nature has something to do with it, but I think it is the explosion of colour that I most love.
DeleteIt's all so beautiful, I guess they have to pay for it somehow and making it more commercial is the only way. It's still not how we'd like it, is it.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: Tulip Top Gardens proves it doesn't have to be commercial - though I suspect they lose money each year.
DeleteAhhh…spring…tulips…if only!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, EC.
Marie Smith: Spring will come again for you. Really it will. And thank you.
Deletegorgeous!! Have a good week.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. I hope you and Mercy do too.
DeleteLove your colorful flowers but cannot imagine planting them all.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: I couldn't plant them all - and am grateful for other people's industry.
DeleteAgain, lots of great color.
ReplyDeleteI missed this post somehow. I found it running back through previous posts.
Mike: Blogger playing tricks again? Thank you for looking for it.
DeleteFlowers like that in October. Such beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe Blog Fodder: We are in Spring here. And thank you.
DeleteThat is a very pleasant place to visit.
ReplyDeleteHappy week.
contempladoraccidental: It is a very pleasant place. At any time of the year.
DeleteIt looks like you had good weather. All the better for enjoying the blooms :)
ReplyDeletekylie: It was sunny but windy. And it was a good day.
Deletelovely fridge magnet..
ReplyDeletei like the purple and pink flower, tulip always catch my eye...greetings
Mbul Kecil: Would you like a fridge magnet?
DeleteAll those beautiful tulips just take my breath away.
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: I think they took a lot of our breaths away.
DeleteCan't deny spring has arrived!
ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo Newbery: Well and truly. Hopeful the sweaty season is not hot on her heels.
