Sunday Selections #796

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still havn't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week I am being a little more random.  A little.  And there will be less photos.

On my way to physio last week (a regular torture session) I saw something I have seen in ages.  Sky writing/sign writing.

I think the signwriter was an amateur.  This was as we saw it.

Flipped the message is more readable.

I hope that Rene (I think it is Rene) saw and appreciated it.  It didn't last long.

Now I am going to revert to type and feature some of what is blooming (apart from the weeds) in our garden this week. Speaking of weeds, when it is light I am going into the garden to weed and weed some more.

Here are some of the things I won't be ripping out.

This last photo of the blue plant is not good but if you embiggen you will see a jewelled flying thing (I am not sure whether it is a fly or a type of bee) hovering above it.  I know I said there would be less photos but there are still quite a few.  Oops.

I hope your week is beautiful - and productive.  I am hoping to eliminate several bags of weeds this morning.

  2. Sky writing ... I have never seen this done in real life. I sure hope the intended recipient was outside at the right moment.
All your flowers are so pretty.

  5. Lovely flowers! And thanks for the chuckle over the skywriting, too. I can only imagine how tricky it must have been for the writer. My brain is twisting, trying to figure out whether 'Rene' could have been on the opposite side of the city, somehow seeing it right-side up. :-)

    1. Diane Henders: How did I miss replying to you earlier? Sky writing cannot be easy - always keeping in mind that flying the plane has to be the first priority. I don't think it was right side up anywhere - but could be wrong.

  6. River Fairchild - Heartfelt at least and hopefully the person responsible had Rene ready to look up at the sky. :-)
So many beautiful blooms! I hope you don’t overdo it while attacking the weeds… and I know you will anyway. The flying thing in the last photo also looks like a fish!
Many hugs sent your way and wishing for a week filled with peace for both of us.

  9. Fascinating what you found "written" in the sky, Sue!!
And rushing to the end: The "flying thing" looks not unfamiliar to me, but ...
Anyway, I do wish you lovely hours of weeding, my dear. ;-)

  12. I really don't know how you manage to look after a garden with so many lovely flowering plants. Yes, it's one of those little hover bees. They are good guys, pollinating and their larvae eat aphids.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Andrew: I am never on top of the garden - and even less so than usual at the moment. Thank you for identifying the hover bee. And anything that eats aphids is definitely a good guy.

  13. Always a treat to see your garden and all those luscious blooms. I love sky writing, haven't seen enough of it these days but there used to be a lot more over the lake in Toronto. Undying love, blah blah.

The sign writing is quite good for a first effort, with practise he or she will get better.

    1. River: They are indeed red and yellow ranunculas. I do hope they come back next year. I don't know whether it was the sign writers first attempt but would love to see more.

  20. Dear EC
Spring blossom and orchids, freesia and irises to enjoy, amongst other things! Spring is Springing for you (and for us to share). It does bring a lot of joy, doesn't it? I have a few jobs to do in the garden too - collect leaves, clean out gutters and insulate pots.
    Have a joy-filled week
    Best wishes

  21. Oh the poor sign writer! The flowers are beautiful, as always, and I think your jewelled flyer is a hoverfly - which may have been suggested several times already

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kim: It does seem to be a hoverfly - and is very welcome. I felt for the sign writer - and the person who commissioned the work - which may or may not be the same person.

  22. Definitely some nice colors. Like the red-yellow one near the beginning.
    I bet sky-writing is expensive.

  25. I have never been subjected to the torture chamber that passes as physiotherapy, but Miriam has and declares the pain beforehand is only magnified by it. And increased flexibility was but an illusion. Better to take your solace in flowers.

    1. David M. Gascoigne: It is painful. I go each week. We are working on my balance and I have had less falls since I joined the program. Just the same as you know I do find solace in the garden.
