Sunday Selections #833

Sunday Selections #832

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  Last week was patchy.  I am very glad I managed the Out of the Shadows Walk but for much of the week I was weaker and wobblier than I liike.  On Thursday my hair started to fall out.  They have told me that I won't lose it all but it will thin.  And it has thinned signficantly and continues to fall.  On that first day I only lost grey hair.  When I  told my brothers all three of them commented that they only have grey hair left to fall.  There are advantages to being the youngest.  At the moment I have to clear the shower drain thoroughly after each shower or there would be a flood.

Next week will be busy.  Medical appointments for the first three days culminating with the second chemo on Wednesday.  A break on Thursday (so far) and then another appointment on Friday.  I suspect I will be largely absent from this space.

In the meantime spring is most definitely here and I continue to revel in it.  I hope to see anenomes and ranuculas in the coming days.

Same old, same old on the photographic front but they make me smile and I  hope they do the same for you.

Here's to colour and joy.

It’s a shame the weeks are so stuffed. I guess no help for it but I hope you get some rest breaks between appointments.
At least your treatments will be finished by the time the full heat of summer takes over.

  9. I've been absent, due to, we thought, a dead laptop battery. But when I borrowed P's laptop to do some fairly crucial banking stuff...his battery also went down. Turns out, that particular power point is dead. So...a job for a sparkie, whenever.
Battery woes pale somewhat in the light of hair loss.

    1. dinahmow: I hope the sparky doesn't uncover anything else. Good luck. I still have some curls - but less of them.

  11. I LOVE the glorious daffodils. My star flowers are out too, only three flowers so far. I planted grape hyacinth once, hoping they wouldn't affect me like the regular hyacinths do, but they did, so I pulled them out and gave the bulbs to a neighbour.
So sorry about your hair and I hope it grows back to its usual thickness once the treatments are over. In the meantime a plethora of hats, scarves, turbans are all out there waiting for you.

    ReplyDelete

    1. River: It will be interesting to see how much more hair I lose. Turbans have been ordered. I am surprised that the grape hyacinths also give you grief. You have a very sensitive system.

Wishing you times of rest between appointments, dear friend. And as River said, there are many ways to keep your head warm and pretty once you get to that point, although I sympathize greatly with the hair fall. Courage, heart sister. Keep swimming.

  34. Today, NZ time, I received an email from our fried, Sue.
This is the saddest news I have had to convey in a very long time....
Sue has been told that there is nothing more the doctors can do for her.
You may, of course, express feelings here, but I am not sure that she will be able to read or respond.
But I know that some of you are friends off-blogs. If it helps you to commiserate with each other, please do.

And, Sue, if you read this, please know that you lifted me (and many others) with your humour or contrition for those in great need.
    Good bye, my friend.

    2. Laura Eno - Thank you Di. We will miss her fiercely. Such a wonderful person to have known for many years and I will cherish the memories I have of her.

    3. Sue’s extraordinary kindness, compassion, generosity, humor, and creativity enriched my life in so, so many ways.

We drifted out of contact for several years due to overwhelm and dysfunction in my own life, something that I deeply, deeply regret. I’m grateful at least we got to reconnect for a little while at the end. I desperately wish it had been so much… much more. I never stopped thinking about her.

Sue will always hold a big place in my heart, and it’s obvious in many others’ as well.

I also cherish the Canberra Sue showed us. She made the city beautiful, almost magical, through her photos and descriptions. (Only Sue could turn posts about horrible scary hospital visits into displays of art, architecture, and flowers!)

My heart goes out to Sue’s other half, her cats, her extended family, her Lifeline people, and her large adoring online “family” here. I doubt many people have so profoundly touched as many lives as Sue has.

If we could all just be a tiny bit more like Sue, the world would be a much, much richer and kinder place.

      Love you, Sue.

    4. Dinah, the following didn't appear under your comment as I wanted it to, so perhaps you haven't seen it: "When Sue wrote this post, she had had one chemo and was on the schedule for a second chemo in the week that just passed. What happened after that first chemo that caused her doctors to give up to her?"

I've emailed Sue repeatedly but got no response. Dinah, are you in a position to keep us updated about her health? I've known her for a decade or more, and it's very hard for me to think of her as being gone forever with no more information than you've provided.

  38. Dearest Sue,
I came here to say that it's the first Sunday in a very, very longtime that you haven't posted Sunday Selections. And now I see that you have had very bad news.
You have battled long and hard with your health, never complaining, always seeking to lift others, contribute, care and create beauty.
I appreciate all of those things about you. I appreciate your total consistency and your diplomatic honesty.
Wishing you good pain relief, dignity and gentle ease.
Lots of love to you and to "himself"

  39. Peggy had me cut her hair as close to her head as I could get when it started falling out because, despite having a lot of hair left, she didn't look good. I went from feeling shocked initially to loving her bald head an hour later. I kiss it often and see it as a symbol of the strength she is displaying. We've fallen into a pattern in which has chemo every other Thursday and spends most of the next several days in bed. About the time that she's feeling halfway herself again, it's time for another chemo.

  66. Dear All,
as Sue had asked me to send her my prompts at the beginning of September, I wasn't sure until yesterday night whether she had pre-scheduled them on the days when she was feeling a little better.
    She hadn't.
That's why I was grateful when Link-River kindly offered to present my prompts on her blog, as both we like the thought that Sue would have wanted us to keep Words for Wednesday alive.
Hopefully none of you will consider this tactless, even macabre, especially if funny posts were to be posted, possibly even before Sue's funeral.
I like the idea of Sue revelling among flowers, cats, kangaroos, and smiling at us.
