Sunday Selections #823

 

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image. 

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.  

 

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

 

 I usually run with a theme.  It is definitely winter here now.  I am enjoying our cool and lightly frosty mornings and hoping that we get cold enough to freeze bubbles this year.

 

 

 However I am also looking forward to Spring.  When I am well enough I am gardening up a storm, weeding and in conjunction with himself planting (he doesn't weed). 

 

 Each month Charlotte (MotherOwl) gives us a colour of the month.  This month in honour of her yellow irises survivng the drought in her Frog pond, the colour of June is "Surviving Iris Yellow"

 

 

There are lots more to plant too, but we are starting with the ones that are shooting.

Come Spring I hope to have blazes of yellow again.  Like these.

I usually run with a theme.This week (for a change) I am going to start with early morning shots from home.

Then I am going to take you out with me a little later in the day for another trip to town and yet more public art some of which I have shown before.

This is The Other Side of Midnight by Anne Ross.  Shortly before I took this photo there was a small person hugging one of the dogs.

This is the Icarus Series (2009) by Jan Brown.

Life Cycle by David Jensz.  It is made of stainless steel and stones.

Yet another planter box.  They are changed regularly, and there is almost invariably something in bloom.

Some day, I will go through this shopping centre when it is open and go into this small gallery.

I thought that this brutalist sculpture was softened by the reflected light from the sunrise.

Shots of the sky as I walked to catch the first of my buses (for some reason best known to itself Blogger played silly buggers with the order of my photos).

The art in the city centre is very varied and I think there is probably something there for everyone.

I usually run with a theme. I am going to be a bit more random (but only a bit) this week.

But first, a follow-up from last week's Sunday Selections.  Joanne Noragon asked why the water company had commissioned murals.  So I rang them.  'We did it to encourage local artists, and to discourage graffiti I was told'.
I suspect there is a little spin in the response.  When asked who the artists were I was told that they would ring me back - and I am still waiting for that call.  It does seem to discourage graffiti though.

Some of you will remember this statue, recently installed at a nearby shopping centre.

You KNOW a statue has been welcomed into the community when the locals rug it up for winter.

I wonder whether she will get a hat and sunnies for the warmer months?

Then to some very different (relatively) early morning shots.

And finishing with an awww moment featuring our sulphur-crested vandals.
