Sunday Selections #823

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  It is definitely winter here now.  I am enjoying our cool and lightly frosty mornings and hoping that we get cold enough to freeze bubbles this year.

However I am also looking forward to Spring.  When I am well enough I am gardening up a storm, weeding and in conjunction with himself planting (he doesn't weed).

Each month Charlotte (MotherOwl) gives us a colour of the month.  This month in honour of her yellow irises survivng the drought in her Frog pond, the colour of June is "Surviving Iris Yellow"

There are lots more to plant too, but we are starting with the ones that are shooting.

Come Spring I hope to have blazes of yellow again.  Like these.

Whatever season you are in, I hope you are enjoying it.

I usually run with a theme. This week?  Winter mornings.  We are finally getting some frosts.  It isn't cold enough yet to freeze bubbles but I have hopes.  We have had clear mornings, foggy mornings and definitely cool temperatures.  I like it, though the other household residents (human and feline) disagree.

I am always fascinated with frost etching a filigree on plant leaves...

One morning the bird bath was definitely iced over.  I broke the ice for them.

I do like the layers of colour in the early morning skies.

Frosty or sunny I hope you all have a wonderful week.

I usually run with a theme.   As I am (sort of) this week.  The garden is an ongoing obsession.  At the moment both the garden and I are a bit confused.

Winter is here.  And so are some spring bulbs.

We also have Japanese Iris in bloom.  They are apparently summer bloomers, but this one (given to me by a neighbour who has since died) is happily blooming now.  In theory it likes wet soil, but this one doesn't get it and has mulitiplied happily.

I have also been watching 'frost flowers' which confirm that it is indeed winter.  It isn't quite cold enough to freeze bubbles to my satisfaction (I tried yesterday) but we are getting good frosts.  Today's garden job is to cut down the tree dahlias which have lost their battle to the frost.

While I was attempting to freeze bubbles (- 4C is not quite cold enough) I was also marvelling at the sky.

These shots were taken over about half an hour starting just after sunrise.

Always the same, always different, always beautiful.

Have a safe, healthy, happy and beautiful week.

Like River I usually run with a theme. Winter has finally arrived, and we have started getting frost again.

One morning last week I trotted out with the camera just after dawn and captured frost flowers in their chilly beauty.

And a slightly warmer dawn a little earlier in the week.  My street has been seeing quite a few 'mad woman with camera dances' recently.

With luck it will get a little colder yet and I can freeze bubbles again.

As an experiment I have enlarged the font - please let me know whether it is too big.
