Sunday Selections #661

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week I am taking you through my garden over the last year.

That was the year that was.   It is New Year's Eve here.  The new year will come in without any help from me - I am confident that she knows the way and needs no special invitation from me.

I hope your coming year is filled with colour, life, vibrancy, health and happiness.

  15. River Fairchild - You had amazing colors blooming all year long, even in the middle of winter!
I used to think one year didn’t differ much from another but the last few have me leery about what’s next. It can show up without my help as well.
I hope your heat isn’t too bad in the coming week and you find the time to relax. Hugs to you, my friend, and stay well-ish.

  20. It’s always great to see the beauty of your garden, Sue, an oasis tended by a caretaker of equal beauty, an exemplar of compassion, dignity and excellence in a world of “leaders” sadly lacking in these fundamental qualities of humanity. What a pleasure and an honour it is to hold you dear as a friend, and I may say without hyperbole, an inspiration. I wish you nothing but the very best of everything for 2024. I will cherish you always. David

  31. Your garden is spectacular and I am impressed that you have year round flowering. Do you not get frost in the late fall? I have to cut all of my flowers back in the fall and they lay dormant all winter ... then of course in the spring they become spectacular again.
I too am disappointed that we can't get together. I didn't realize you lived 400 miles from Melbourne. My visit is too short and limited to go outside the area where we have planned. Maybe, at least we can hope, I will be able to return to Australia again and have the time to travel the distance from Melbourne. I would also like to go to New Zealand . So sorry , Sue 😒

    Replies
    1. Andrea @ From The Sol: We do get frost. Months of frost. It cuts some things down to ground levels but other hardier plants keep blooming. There is a begonia on our front verandah for example which bloomed for 365 days last year.
I too am very sorry we won't catch up and hope that you have a WONDERFUL time in Melbourne and surrounds. Due warning. It is likely to be very hot.

    1. messymimi: Thank you - on both counts. Believe me there are some plants for whom my thumb is decidedly black. I seem to be unable to keep maiden hair ferns or gardenias alive as just two examples. I no longer try, embarrassed at all those I have killed.
I thoroughly enjoyed your selections - as I always do.
