Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I
usually run with a theme. This week it is again snippets from home. We have had some much needed rain this week, and a lot of grey days. Andrew mentioned that he had discovered how difficult it was to photograph the beauty of dew drops, so in a rare dry interlude I went out to try and capture rain drops. Andrew is right. Sharing the sparkle that they give to plants and the lawn is not easy.
Not only are the lilies going gangbusters, the orchids continue to flower.
I also delighted the beauty of this gone to seed weed and the delicacy of this fragile parasol mushroom.
You caught a couple really good ones.
ReplyDeleteSome things are just better seen in person. A camera can never fully capture real beauty.
Alex J. Cavanaugh: You are right, but I suspect that better equipment and a better photographer would have done a better job.
DeleteThe sight of the rain drops is fascinating!
ReplyDeleteDUTA: It is, and very welcome.
DeleteHi EC - those are brilliant photos of dewdrops ... love seeing them - at the moment I'd be making your freezing bubbles - it's horrible down here - with freezing fog. I'd love to be in your garden with the orchids and lilies ... and the clock seed head of the dandelion, and that parasol mushroom - beautiful ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton Butcher: Thank you. Even I haven't been spending much/enough time in the garden it has been very wet. Not cold rain by any means. The dandelion isn't but I cannot at the moment remember what it is.
DeleteIt is hard to get photos of rain, as its coming down, or even clinging to something. We have had plenty of rain here last few days with the next week all days of rain. So maybe I'll give it a try. I like that second photo a lot.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: It is difficult but I will keep trying. I know you have had lots of rain - more than we have though ours is very welcome.
DeleteWonderful! You did manage to capture the magic of the raindrops. And I LOVE that last picture of the parasol mushroom.
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you. There is another parasol mushroom this morning. Such delicate things...
DeleteBrill EC, in the rain. I love the Parasol mushroom.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: I love them too, and welcomed another today.
DeleteThe dews are so moving to look at.
ReplyDeleteroentare: It is sunny here at the moment - which has been rare. The lawn is glistening.
DeleteVery clever photography, EC. You are so good with a camera. My poor little camera has forgotten what its purpose is. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the week ahead is a good one for you. Take care...my cuddles to Batty and Odie. :)
Lee: Thank you - though my camera deserves most of the credit. I have a busy week ahead. Batty and Odie thank you and I hope your week is good too.
DeleteThose dew/rain drops are impressive EC and I absolutely love that parasol mushroom and wonder if it's edible. I am a huge fan of field mushrooms and interestingly we have a record number of different species of mushrooms growing in the wild here including precious truffles.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: There are several mushrooms known as parasol mushrooms and I wouldn't be prepared to take the risk. These are very shortlived, gone in less than a day. As a child we often collected and enjoyed wild mushrooms.
DeleteYou do dew beautifully.
ReplyDeleteMike: Thank you - more rain that dew this time.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - You did a beautiful job capturing those drops! Quite the feat to do that. A gorgeous selection of flowers, weeds, and fungi as well. Your garden is always a delight to visit.
ReplyDeleteI’ve had days of rain too, but with the temperature hovering at snow threatening numbers. I’ll trade you. :)
Say hi to the furry ones for me and I hope your week is mild and breezy, both in weather and body.
River Fairchild: As you know I would happily trade our temperatures. We are expecting more rain this afternoon and had a little hail last week. By the middle of next week it is expected to be HOT. Hugs.
DeleteI especially like the photos of the drops hanging from the plants. I wonder do they drop off or dry up?
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: We have been so wet recently they drop off. And I am grateful for the moisture - as is the garden.
DeleteBeautiful little beads!
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: They are, aren't they?
DeleteI love looking at the dew drops on leaves but especially love looking at the pearl necklaces on spider webs. Nature suer is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you got this much needed rain. Your lilies and orchids are very healthy despite the lack of rain. Enjoy the new week.
Hugs
Julia
Julia: Like you I love the effect of water (or ice) on spider webs. It has been very windy as well as wet here and I didn't see any webs. The orchids and the lilies have benefited from the rain - and this morning we spotted a beautiful bright red lily - which I will probably bring inside.
DeleteYou have a lovely week too.
thecontemplativecat here. Your photos are exquisite! Raindrops shimmering in the light---so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: Thank you. It was indeed beautiful and how I wish I could have captured it better.
DeleteI LOVE all the rain drops and that very pretty seed head and now I know those mushrooms are called parasols. The orchids are beautiful. I do suspect dew drops on grass can only be properly captured by lying down on that wet grass and that just isn't worth the trouble. For me anyway.
ReplyDeleteRiver: You could well be right. I would have trouble getting up if I lay on the grass - but might try it anyway.
DeleteBeautiful images
ReplyDeleteI just shared a new post and would love for you to check it out. Thanks a bunch!

MELODY JACOB: Thank you. I will be over to check out your post in a minute.
DeleteYour dew drops photos are gorgeous. I think you capture the drop so well. x
ReplyDeleteBea: Thank you. Sadly the reality was sooo much better. Those drops danced in the light.
DeleteYour raindrops are good, and the orchid is lovely and they do last a long time in bloom. Lovely photos EC.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Margaret D: I am always amazed at just how long orchids last. We have found two spots (on in the front and one in the back yard) where they do well and they bloom and bloom and bloom.
DeleteLovely dew drops! And lovely orchids. What you see in my picture are the pilings upon which the structure that was the cannery was situated. So... My description was a bit vague. But I'm a bit vague tonight. I hope all is well there.
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you. I had worked out that those were the pilings, and was amazed that they had lasted. Things continue to muddle along here.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI think you did beautifully with capturing the raindrops/dewdrops. I love the contrast between the orchid and the dandelion seedhead. Both stunning but one much more prized then the other. I must admit to a love of dandelion seedheads as they are so perfect and so delicate. We have snow here today so I must get out into the garden with my camera before it is gone.
Have a good week and take care of yourself
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. We had lots more rain yesterday so I could probably try and capture rain drops again. River suggesting lying on the grass to get the best view of the shimmering rain drops, but I think I will pass. Snow? A rarity here. I look forward to your photos.
DeleteThis week's close-ups have reminded me of Triffids
ReplyDeleteKim: Much more benign than triffids.
DeleteWater droplets are hard to beat. They are nature’s finest adornment.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I do love to see plants bejewelled with water.
DeleteYou make it look easy, though, EC. You have captured some magical shots with your camera and your patience. I was also fascinated by the parasol mushroom.
ReplyDeleteHope you and the fur babies are doing well.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: Thank you. The parasol mushrooms disappear when the sun hits them so I was glad to capture their fragile beauty.
DeleteI think you have captured those dew drops very well. I like the closeups.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa: Thank you. Hooray for digital cameras.
DeleteYou captured the dew drops beautifully. Congratulations. David and I would love to visit Australia, but at our age we never shall. Too bad, because Oz is so beautiful and interesting.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: Thank you. I am sorry that you won't be coming to Australia. Mind you, I think my travelling days are done too.
DeleteIt looks to me that you've been very successful at capturing the sparkle of the raindrops. Certain plants seem to be better than others at holding large drops.
ReplyDeleteJohn 'By Stargoose And Hanglands': It is usually (but not always) the bigger plants which hold the large drops. Which makes sense - water is heavy.
DeleteThe pictures with the raindrops came out really good.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you. The rain was lovely.
DeleteGorgeous! How are you doing?
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. Struggling a bit, but this isn't a good time of year for me.
DeleteThe raindrops look like pretty jewels, beautiful! I can't pick a favorite photo, they're all lovely! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: You always say the nicest things. Thank you. I hope you and Gregg have a wonderful week too.
DeleteYou caught a delicate balance and it is lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy selections are over here.
messymimi: We were so pleased to see the rain. I thoroughly enjoyed your selections when I saw them last nightl.
DeleteI think you did well to capture the raindrops. Lovely photographs.
ReplyDeleteMy good wishes for the new month of December ... I don't know where this year has gone?!
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: This year has just rocketed by hasn't it? I hope you and Eddie have a wonderful December.
DeleteAbsolutely stunning photos , amazing close ups and beautiful colours xx [I too would love a white Christmas, it's been so hot.. I am also trying to make my design team cards to fit Aussie themes, though it's hard at times as the themes are set to international...]
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: "A white Christmas would be good wouldn't it? Some day. I hope you can find a way to include some Australian cards - most of the themes seem to be Eurocentic.
DeleteThe rain drops are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteRain: We think so too - and there is more predicted for the end of the week. Fingers crossed.
DeleteHappy to hear you're getting a bit of rain. Your photographs of the droplets are great. It's amazing how much difference a bit water can make in an image.
ReplyDeleteGini and I are having fun exploring and we hope your new week is off to a great start.
Wally Jones: Of course you and Gini are exploring. Have fun. I have a busy week ahead but hopefully it will be a week where I achieve things - and we get some more blissful rain.
DeleteThe raindrop covered blooms are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: We are so often short of rain that they were doubly beautiful.
DeleteYet you do an excellent job at capturing the beauty of dew drops.
ReplyDeleteRawknrobyn: Thank you. This morning early I was out trying to do better.
DeleteLate to the party again! Somewhere, I have a pic of water drops on a grevillea. With a bonus bee I had not noticed.
ReplyDeletedinahmow: I would like to see that - and yes that is a request.
DeleteGreat photos. Love those water drops shining. Got a bit of the holiday blues. I hope you're having a great new week,
ReplyDelete
DeleteRasmaSandra: I am sorry you have the holiday blues - I hope that they disappear quickly.
Those photos are very good. But still nature is so much better. Weeds and fragile mushrooms are luckly patient objects for our ambitilons.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte(MotherOwl): You are right of course, but still I would like to capture and share the beauty of nature - and will keep trying.
DeleteI think you did an excellent job capturing those droplets in a variety of settings. And I love seeing them. The mushroom is a beauty!
ReplyDeletejenny_o: Thank you. Isn't that fragile mushroom gorgeous? It only seems to last a few hours - another reason to be glad of being an early riser.
