Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week I am again focussing on the hot pinks and reds that have been featuring close to home.
This dawn was brilliantly coloured. Most of our dawns are much softer. In keeping with the phrase red in the morning sailor's/shepherd's warning we did get some very welcome rain later in the day.
There are splashes of red in the garden too.
And in some of the birds that visit us. I do love our galahs.
And our King Parrots.
The female king parrot was obviously having a 'bad feather day' but I do like the chevrons you can see under her tail.
I hope you find colour and beauty in your week.
Goodness me! This first week of December seems to have gone by very quickly.
ReplyDeleteHere in the UK we are currently under weather warnings for strong wind and rain from Storm Darragh! For me - so far so good!
I do like your skies hot pinks and reds, very colourful.
Nice to see the flowers and birds too.
Sending my good wishes.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: I hope you escape the wrath of Storm Darragh. December is rocketing past isn't it? And thank you.
DeleteThese images of parrots and cockatoos, Sue, take me right back to my visits to Australia. Such amazing avifauna - so common to you yet so exotic to me. Appreciated by both of us, though.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I do appreciate our birds. Each and every day - as I know you do yours (and I would too).
DeleteInteresting difference between the male and female parrots.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: They look very similar until the males get their adult plumage. The males have orange beaks though.
DeleteThe birds alone are food for the soul. The blooms and skies are a great bonus. Thank you, EC. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Nature always gives me heart balm.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - Beautiful color everywhere! Gorgeous skies and I envy you for the bird visitors. Glad you got a bit of rain. Hopefully it didn’t turn humid for you, though the plants would like it.
ReplyDeletePlease take care in the heat and I hope you have a week with few commitments and some good books by your side. Give my homage to Batty and Odie, and hugs for yourself.
River Fairchild: Of course it turned humid. Bleah. The rain is welcome though. Another week with far too many appointments and commitments. I 'think' the week after it is relatively low key though. And thank you. Hugs.
DeleteOh those galahs! Stunning.
ReplyDeleteXO

Wisewebwoman: Aren't they lovely? We once had a home decorated in galah colours.
DeleteHappy colour! The skies to dream on, the winged friends to bring smiles. Very beautiful! Cj
ReplyDeleteCj: Thank you.
DeleteYour parrot shots remind me of my pet Taro. She passed away 4 years ago
ReplyDeleteroentare: What sort of parrot was Taro?
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteWhat stunning colours in the sunrise and the gorgeous plants and birds. The most colourful bird I saw in our garden today was a robin! I am glad to hear you have had some rain too. Storm Darragh is making his presence known across the UK, but we have been lucky so far.
I hope you continue to get the rain you need and to find joy and colour in your week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. I would like to see your robin. The rain was very welcome and I hope that Storm Darragh treats you kindly.
DeleteGood morning, EC. We've been getting a lot of rain up this way. All the birds around my place are soaked, poor things, but that doesn't stop their melodious singing and friendly chats with me when they come up close and personal out the front of my wee abode.
ReplyDeleteThe king parrots, cockatoos, and galahs are around but they are not as friendly as my visiting magpies, kookaburras, butcherbirds and noisy miners. I don't why the miners are called "noisy" because their chatter is very quiet and gentle.
Take good care...I hope all is well with you. Give my cuddles to your little furry mates, Batty and Odie. I hope, too, they are doing well. :)
Lee: I envy you your kookaburras. I rarely see or hear them now. Batty is doing a little better - though he still resents his asthma medication. He, Odie and I thank you. Have a good week.
DeleteYou live in a beautiful place and make it more so by your appreciation of it. Thanks so much for sharing dear friend, aloha!
ReplyDeleteCloudia: I am a beauty addict and happy to share.
DeleteI love to see your shades of red in all the places you show here. These splashes of color brighten spots in the world all the way over here! Sending you much love, dear friend. Thank you for the eye candy which didn't put even an ounce on me!
ReplyDeleteDJan: Beauty has no calories.
DeleteStunning dawn phots, and proved the shepherd's warning.
ReplyDeleteAll the bird species we have here and I never see king parrots, although I know they are in the nearby hills, perhaps closer.
Andrew: One of my brothers lives on the other side of town and he rarely sees king parrots. The native bird of our city (the gang gang) we occasionally hear and never see.
DeleteLove the parrots.
ReplyDeleteMike: So do we.
DeleteWhat an original and lovely wish - I hope you find colour and beauty in your week. I certainly found both in your post and your gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteKalpana: Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed this post and I will undoubtedly find colour and joy in the coming week.
DeleteYour sky is gorgeous as ever and so are your birds. I hope the heat has relented.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Today is slightly cooler though still hotter than I like. The sky and the birds always make me smile.
DeleteLovely birds. Happy color tracking.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: We live in a beautiful world.
DeleteJust looking at your pictures makes me feel content... Imagining being able to see those beautiful birds every single day. In my front yard!! : )
ReplyDeletecontemptadoraocidental: I am very grateful that we can and do see them.
DeleteLovely colours and birds. I rarely see galahs anymore, but last month a couple turned up on my lawn to share the food thrown out by upstairs neighbour for the mourning doves who drive me comletely batty with the unrelenting coo-coo coo-coo. Rainbow lorikeets are back too, though I don't see them through the tree foliage, just hear them chattering away.
ReplyDeleteBatty and Odie still well?
River: Thank you. The galahs tend to arrive just before dusk and I haven't seen rainbow lorikeets for a while. Odie is fine but poor Batty continues to have breathing issues. I guess they are part of him now.
DeleteYou definitely have some lovely shades of pink and red in your world, and we have a tiny bit of that fire hot red with a touch of pink as the sun sets and soon, we'll be having more grey skies and white falling upon us. I enjoy seeing your parrots and other birds, they are a delight. Enjoy your lovely week ahead as well!
ReplyDelete21 Wits: I will be looking at photos of your winter wonderland soon enough to cool down from our heat. Stay safe, stay warm.
DeleteWonderful photos of everything, EC. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: Yet again I rescued you from spam. Thank you.
DeleteSo many pretty pinks here!
ReplyDeleteI saw a video about a galah/ cocky hybrid. It was a lovely peach and grey sunset coloured bird
kylie: A family member in the US sent photos of that bird to me. Bizarre - but pretty.
DeleteHi EC - delightful ... I nearly looked last night - but was totally hooked with the Notre Dame opening ... sorry change of subject. I had my jabs in the last 2 days, and so needed to rest my arms! As I came home via the bus I noticed a slate and some pottery spread about - fortunately not here ... but it's been buffeting all night. I can give you seagulls, magpies, jackdaws, blackbirds, robins and LBJs ... I hope they're still here hunkered down! I always love seeing your pics and what's there for us down under ... stunning - a weekend of extraordinary events! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I am thrilled that Notre Dame has reopened and glad you could watch it. I had a shingles shot last week and hear you on the painful arms front. I do hope that your birds are indeed hunkered down - and that you can too.
DeleteI have never seen a galah in person. What a pretty bird, all dressed in pink and grey. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: They are very stylish birds aren't they? We see them most days at the moment and always smile.
DeleteI always love your Sunday Selections and they are the best of the reasons there is hope for me to go to Australia someday.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie: Thank you - and I hope you can visit us some day.
DeleteAnother Sunday treat of sunrises and feathers - just beautiful, thank you
ReplyDeleteKim: I am stuck in a rut a bit - but it is a very pretty rut.
DeleteAnother beautiful Sunday. That red parrot is especially so. Thank you!
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. We love seeing the King Parrots and they bring their family with them which is also lovely.
DeleteI love the birds, we don't see anything like them where I live. I see some black birds, crows, finches, doves, sparrows, and pigeons. That's about it. I love the sky pictures, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: I wish that we saw more sparrows. Their numbers are in serious decline here. Skyscapes never get old do they?
DeleteIn all honesty, I have never seen any of the birds to which you refer, except in zoos. I adore your early morning sky shots. They are stunning.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read Batty is still having breathing problems. Give both a hug from me.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: It is lovely to see that you have been able to comment here again. Batty doesn't seem to realise he is not well - which is lovely. He and Odie appreciate your hugs though.
DeleteBeautiful shades of red everywhere.
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: Colour always makes me feel better.
DeleteI always enjoy the window you provide into your part of the world. Your skies, flowers and birds are stunning.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you. You always leave the nicest comments.
DeleteBeautiful photos. I have never seen a galah. Amazing.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: Galahs are less well known than some of our birds but I think they are beautiful.
DeleteI sure love those parrots. I hope your cats are doing well. Have a great week ahead.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: We love them too. Batty still has asthma, but he is doing pretty well despite it.
DeleteYour galahs and parrots always let me smile. Thank you, Sue.
ReplyDeleteSean Jeating: They make us smile too. Broadly.
DeleteYou live in a stunningly beautiful part of the world. Thanks for showing it to us.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): There are less beautiful things around too - but I choose to focus (mostly) on things that bring me joy.
Deletelovely photos! I like the photos so much :)

DeleteA delight! And I'm sorry I've fallen so far behind in commenting.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: Not a problem. You are a very, very busy person. And are welcome whenever you find the time to stop by.
DeleteThere is something very special about cactus flowers, it's as if they are compensating for their prickly side.
ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo Newbery: You are right. At the moment I am waiting (anxiously) for a spectacular bloom on another cactus. It only lasts twenty four hours but is truly beautiful. And pleasantly scented too.
DeleteWow, stunning
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Thank you.
Deletegood one
