Sunday Selections #803

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  I moaned about the weather last week and took you back with me to Antarctica where my heart was.  I am going to have another weather related moan today.  We were promised rain last week.  Lots of rain.  And rain every day.  Sadly by Friday at midnight we had only received a total of 5mm (less than 0.2 of an inch).

It was hot, humid and muggy.  And windy. Poor Batty has been suffering too.  Canberra is known as the pollen capital of  Australia and his asthma has been bad, meaning that we have to force his inhaler on him for longer periods.

Most of his fur has grown back after his recent surgery - just in time for him to moult up a storm.

When I could I only went out at first light.

However, very early on Saturday we finally got some rain.  The garden is happy.  I am happy and Batty is wheezing less. I do love seeing rain bejewelled plants.

I think the corellas are happy too.

I hope the weather (and everything else) is kind to you this week.

  1. The corellas are so beautiful. Wish we could have shared all the rain we had over more than two weeks. I wish you more rain, EC.

    1. Marie Smith: The corellas are indeed beautiful - and wear blue eyeshadow better than any human. We had lots of rain yesterday and I hope the weather boffins are truth tellers when they promise us more this week.

  2. I'm happy to hear that Batty is a little better. The pictures are so beautiful. Love the birds.

  3. Poor Batty. I'm sure that's not easy using the inhaler on him.

  4. Sweet Batty, so sorry he too suffers from the pollen. The corellas are gorgeously exotic. Lovely pics EC.

  5. Sorry to hear about Batty and pollen and this is probably the season for it that you're entering. We're having quite the cold wave at the moment, it seems winter is really putting a strong hold on us. Your lovely photos are warming me up! Enjoy your week ahead.

  6. It's Saturday morning here in Las Vegas, Sue! I hope Batty is feeling better. Your early morning skies are lovely. I did love Australia when I was there and want to return so much. Your birds are amazing! I love rain-bejeweled plants too. Have a great week!

  7. River Fairchild - Yay for rain! I hope you get more rain and better breathing for Batty as the pollen gets washed away. That glare he gives you! Did you have inhaler in hand? :)
I will think cool, rainy thoughts for you for the coming week. Hugs to you always.

    1. River Fairchild: Yay for rain indeed - though I am not enjoying the humidity. When himself gets up Batty will get another snifter. If he sees the two of us moving in his direction he tends to scurry under the bed...
And thank you for those cool rainy thoughts. I will send some of our warmth your way. And hugs received and reciprocated.

  8. We've had rain here too, just enough to freshen everything up and save me from having to water plants. I can't imagine how tricky it must be to use the inhaler with Batty. Can cats have anti-histamines or don't they work on cats? Or maybe not well enough for Batty...

    1. Kim: It isn't fun using the inhaler on Batty but it does seem to make a positive difference. He would no doubt disagree. We badly needed rain and I really hope we get some of the promised follow up.

  9. How lovely to finally get some rain. Your photos of the drops on plants are beautiful. It rained here yesterday afternoon. The temperature dropped. It feels good today. My yard needed a little rain. I had no idea a kitty inhaler existed. I understand Batty not liking it, but what an excellent medication when needed.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Janie Junebug: The air smells a lot fresher here today and the garden is noticeably feeling relief. I didn't know that cats got asthma either. He gets a child's dose of asthma medication and we hold the inhaler mask over his nose for up to ten breaths twice daily. It seems to make a big difference.

  10. I am pleased you received some rain, as did we yesterday. They are nice soft dawn photos. It must have been cool when the corellas had their photo taken with their beak feathers fluffed up.

  11. Dear EC
Such good news about the rain. I agree about the drops on leaves. Poor Batty - I hope he will suffer less in the damper air.
The corellas look so exotic - we only get pigeons, jackdaws, sparrows and occasionally a robin or blue tit!
Best wishes for a cooler and damper week

    1. Ellie Foster: We get pigeons took, and often up to seven or eight native species of birds. I love them. I wish we saw sparrows more often - their numbers have declined rapidly. I hope your week is lovely.

  13. Good morning, EC. We're receiving all the rain up this way. It was relentless through last night, but, fortunately, for now, has ceased this morning.

I feel for dear little Batty...poor little guy. Please give him and Odie extra cuddles from me.

Take care...and I hope the coming week is kind to you....kind to us all. :)

  14. I also love plants covered in raindrops. I hope poor Batty doesn't suffer too much this summer. I hadn't know Canberra was the pollen capital, I'll have to cross it off my list of places-to-visit-when-I-win-lotto.

    1. River: Raindrops are beautiful aren't they? For some of the year Canberra isn't too bad, but spring and summer can be very difficult.

  21. Our girl is pretty old now and though she's still spry and happy, she's losing the ability to do some things, like groom!! To make things worse, she hates to get brushed. We've tried everything but the steam brush. I'm not sure that would take matts out, and I'm not sure she's appreciate it, lol. We'll see. I've found a dab of olive oil makes the matts come out, but then there's olive oil on everything she touches, and she touches everything (Queen of the House) so that doesn't work. We'll keep working for a solution. Can't have our beauty queen matted. Glad Batty's hair is almost all the way grown back. Hope you get some rain soon!

    1. mail4rosey: Olive oil to remove the matts and then a bath? Or even dry shampoo? Good luck. And the cats are always rulers of our house.

  22. I love those gorgeous white birds. I sympathize with Batty and I hope he will be feeling much better soon. The cold snap in Florida continues and threatens us with temps to freezing. Yes, it can happen in Florida but no snow. I hope you have a wonderful new week ahead.
