Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Starting off Yarralumla, a suburb in my city. In recent years they have developed the I think charming habit of tying red bows around trees in the very leafy suburb. It is titled 'Yarralumla does Christmas'.
These last two trees are outside where my parents house stood before it was replaced with a McMansion. Decades ago I spent many happy hours in those trees with an apple and a book.
Of course while we were in the area I demanded a roo fix.
Closer to home there are also decorations. An early morning walk (just after 7) made me smile.
Santa and Rudolph are obviously not early morning risers.
And the Christmas gnomes are back. The householder was watering his garden when I went past (it is going to be hot again) and I was pleased to tell him how much I like his decorations. As I suspected the initials on the gnomes are for family members. He told me that they were fading a bit - to which I could only reply 'Aren't we all'.
The last photo in yet another photo heavy post is not Christmassy at all but I loved it.
The Guard Chickens were in hiding though. I hope you find things to make you smile this coming week.
Fun to see your Sunday Selections, as they always are. A wonderful tradition with the red bows on the trees, the kangaroos are a joy to me, seeing all those expressions. We have a lot of those deflated decorations around here, too much sherry in the eggnog I'm thinking. The ornaments on the trees are very festive and those gnomes are adorable! So glad you saw the man and told him how much you enjoyed them. If you see him again please tell him they brought me a big smile :) And the chicken warning at the end also, chuckling at that one. Thank you for another super post my friend and I wish you a Happy Holiday and a Very Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Too much sherry in the eggnog is the perfect explanation. Thank you - and thank you for your kind words and holiday wishes.
DeleteThose red-bowed trees are wonderful. And I am so happy that those childhood trees of yours were preserved.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course the roos make me smile every time.

Wisewebwoman: I do love a roo fix. They make me smile too. And yes, while the house I grew up in has gone, I am glad that the trees stand tall and strong.
DeleteI am very happy to see that you got your ‘roo fix, Sue. I know how therapeutic that is for you. I bet the red bows on the trees performed the same function too. Stay well. I hope the holidays are kind to you. All the very best - David
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Thank you. I have never, ever come away from a roo fix without feeling better. The next week will be hot and horrid but I am luckier than many. I hope you and Miriam enjoy your low key celebrations.
DeleteSuch unique and original decorations in your area—it’s so interesting to see them showcased. I loved the red bows, the Christmas globes, and Rudolph taking a nap! The kangaroos are amazing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful Sunday collection🧡🌲⛄
Katerinas Blog: The roos are a year round fixture and delight me. I like the other decorations I showcased too - thank you.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI love the decorations around the neighbourhood - simple bows, bauble, gnome trees (they are great!) and slightly the worse for wear Santa and Reindeer who have started celebrating a little too early by the looks of things! Of course, the roos too - always a joy to see.
Lots to make us smile - thank you.
Have a very Happy week
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Aren't the gnome trees great? I was thrilled when I saw he had continued the tradition - and think he liked hearing how charming they are. And yes, the roos are a joy.
DeleteGuard chickens just cracked me up. I'm sending that picture to a lawyer in Alabama who has a yard full of cool chickens
ReplyDeleteLove how the trees are decorated.
The Blog Fodder: Guard chickens cracked me up too. I sent the photo to himself's sister. Her chooks live in a Taj Mahal in their back yard and she has been known to watch television with a rooster in her lap. A whole suburb filled with trees and bows is quite a sight.
DeleteThe gnomes are awesome. Guard chicken. lol
ReplyDeleteLoved the ribbons and the ornaments in the trees.
Mary Kirkland: I am so glad that others seemed to like these things as much as I did.
DeleteLove all these signs and decorations
ReplyDeleteroentare: I am glad to hear that.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - I always love your walkabouts and the varied decorations in your city - ribbons, gnomes, and snoring Santa and Rudolph bring a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteI’m so glad you went for a Roo fix too! It still amazes me that you can share space with them like that.
Keep cool as you can through the heat you’re having and sending snowy thoughts your way.
River Fairchild: Snowy thoughts are very welcome. We have a brief cool change tomorrow (when I have physio) and I am looking forward to it. The decorations are good aren't they?
DeleteAre the kangaroos wild or did you go to a zoo?
ReplyDeleteSandi: The kangaroos are wild and live beside the lake. Where they thrive.

DeleteLovely, your trees, roos and gnomes, Sue.
ReplyDeleteFor a few years now in December, an invisible Christmas gnome called Wolfram has been moving in with our children who live opposite and who, in addition to daily written correspondence, gets up to some lovely nonsense at night.
Last Monday, he asked Grandpa Sean to cook this delicious rice with chicken fillet pieces and baked beans in tomato sauce, just like last year.
Wolfram's wish was, of course, my command ;-)
Sean Jeating: I love you being at Wolfram's command. And feel sure that others do too.
DeleteGood morning, EC...I wish you and "Him" all the very best wishes for Christmas. Relax and enjoy yourselves. I'll certainly be doing so. Nothing much different than any other day is occurring here with me, because it will just be me and me. Doing puzzles and reading is how I intend spending the day. No different to any other day! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the temperatures stay down for you. Give my cuddles to Batty and Odie...all the very best. :)
Lee: Thank you. It will be a quiet day here too. I have LL on Boxing Day but other than that no commitments. Which suits me just fine. Enjoy your puzzles and books.
DeleteBellissimo post con foto meravigliose.Sono contenta che tu abbia una vita piena.Olga dal Friuli
ReplyDeleteolga: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteThat's a nice collection of Christmas themed photos, not ignoring the kangaroos. Guard chickens, haha.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: Aren't the guard chickens great?
DeleteYou have such a great sense of humor, Sue! Love your roos. The next time I make it to Australia, I'm going to see more roos, and hopefully you and Roentare. Loved the Christmas decorations! Have a lovely Christmas! ❤️
ReplyDeleteFundy Blue: I really, really hope we can meet up. And roentare takes some amazing photos doesn't he?
DeleteGuard chickens…priceless. Those are special trees. I wonder if other children enjoy them today as you once did.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: I didn't see any evidence that children live where our family home was so perhaps those trees remain unclimbed. Which I find a bit sad.
