Sunday Selections #814

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This has been another busy and fraught week (and next week will be too).  Instead of a theme I am reverting to type and showing some of the things I have noticed (the pleasant things) over the last little while.

The garden has been severely neglected.  Just the same, some things have continued to bloom.

Seeing the Balloon Spectacular made me remember and revisit some of the feature balloons from previous years.

These are from 2016

2017

 2018

And there are plenty more if you are interested in a revisit.
I hope your week has splashes of colour and joy.

  1. Laura Eno - Thanks for posting the balloons from past years. It’s always great to remember the beauty! Your garden is a marvel too, no matter the season. It must be a balm to your heart anytime you glance out a window or step outside.
I’m sorry your weeks are stuffed right now. Hopefully you’ll get some respite here and there. Hugs to you always, my sister across the seas.

    1. Laura Eno: Thank you. At the moment looking out the window at the garden makes me feel guilty. I hope to get back into it. Soon. Ish.

  2. Ya tienes tarea para esta semana, arreglar y poner apunto tu jardín para que brote más flores. Temo que como estás ahora tan ocupado no tengas tiempo para hacerlo.
    Un abrazo.

  4. Gorgeous. I've always wanted to see a hot air balloon display.

  5. I'm always thankful for the stalwarts in my garden that bloom without any help from me, because I haven't had the oomph to pay nearly the attention to them that I should. I'm glad you have those as well. I love the recap of the balloons through the years! They are truly works of art of the very large kind. I especially like the owl and the other colourful bird, which I'm not sure I can identify - it looks a bit like a hummingbird but very colourful compared to the ones I have seen. Thank you for the "splashes of colour and joy" - we are still in the "grey and brown" season here!

    1. jenny_o: Set and forget plants are wonderful. As are balloons. I think that parrot owes something to hummingbirds and something to imagination - which is fine by me.

  9. Viewing pleasant things is most welcome...particularly these days...there is so much upset around the place. The flooded areas in south-west Queensland cover an area four times the size of the UK...and the devastated area is larger than Texas. It is heartbreaking...and that is putting it very mildly.

I'm still having problems with blogger, and until I get them fixed I won't be blogging. It's so frustrating.

Have a comfortable, relaxed and enjoyable week ahead, EC. Take good care...my cuddles to Batty and Odie. :)

    1. Lee: You are right about the upset. World wide. What is blogger doing to you? I noticed that you had put a post up and withdrawn it.
I hope this week brings better news. To your State and the world.

    2. I did put a new post up, EC...but promptly eliminated it because, once again, no paragraphs, making it a pain in the proverbial for people to read the post. :)

    3. Lee: There is an option for paragraphs when you are preparing your posts - or perhaps you could put a space where the paragraphs belong. Don't let blogger defeat you.

  16. Hi EC - it's so good to see you again - those balloons are quite amazing ... I'm afraid I had to laugh at the 'pustule' one - which looks like it's pinned with smarties ... sorry! I do love the white agapanthus pushing its head through .. the garden will always flourish ... take care - with thoughts - Hilary

    Replies
    1. Hilary Melton-Butcher: I thought of smarties when I saw that balloon too. The white agapanthus was a Naked Lady - we only have the blue/mauve agapanthus here.

  17. Neglecting the garden here has become the norm! Every so often we have a fit and go out and weed like crazy and tidy up, but the older we get the less appeal the gardening has. If I were rich I would hire a gardener so that I could enjoy the beauty without the aching back!

    1. David M. Gascoigne: I will have to have a weed fest too. I do find ripping and tearing out the weeds surprisingly therapeutic. Later.

  18. I love to see the balloons, they get so creative with some of them. The frog balloon looks like it might overtake the basket, lol, I'm sure it's an illusion, but that's still not the one I would choose if I were paying to go up for the day. :)

Take it easy on the gardening front, the weeds always win ;) and balloons and pretty things are more impåortatn for our soul.

  32. It’s wonderful to see how the Sunday Selections meme continues to evolve, with a sense of nostalgia and personal connection to its roots. The photos from the Balloon Spectacular bring a lovely burst of color and remind us of the fleeting beauty of these events. It's also heartening to see that, even in a neglected garden, nature persists and blooms. Sometimes, those little unexpected beauties are the most rewarding.

  35. The balloons are wonderful - I wouldn't mind seeing a few more. The creativity seems to be unlimited. Do they fly just as well as regular balloons or is it more complicated?
I have been negelcting my garden as well. Not being at home for 4 and then again 2 weeks certainly didn't help. Then it was raining so much that I couldn't do anything. Now I'm trying to catch up and simply had to decide to just let some things go and do them later. It's a rather wild garden anyway...

    Replies
    1. Carola Bartz: I will show some more balloons next week. They do seem to fly well though many of the shapes don't seem to be aerodynamically sound.
The couch grass (grrr) has invaded a lot of beds here and is trying to take over. Ours is a wild garden too, but I do like so have some say about what dominates.
