Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I
usually run with a theme. This has been another busy and fraught week (and next week will be too). Instead of a theme I am reverting to type and showing some of the things I have noticed (the pleasant things) over the last little while.
Seeing the Balloon Spectacular made me remember and revisit some of the feature balloons from previous years.
These are from 2016
2017
I hope your week has splashes of colour and joy.
Laura Eno - Thanks for posting the balloons from past years. It’s always great to remember the beauty! Your garden is a marvel too, no matter the season. It must be a balm to your heart anytime you glance out a window or step outside.
ReplyDeleteI’m sorry your weeks are stuffed right now. Hopefully you’ll get some respite here and there. Hugs to you always, my sister across the seas.
Laura Eno: Thank you. At the moment looking out the window at the garden makes me feel guilty. I hope to get back into it. Soon. Ish.
DeleteYa tienes tarea para esta semana, arreglar y poner apunto tu jardín para que brote más flores. Temo que como estás ahora tan ocupado no tengas tiempo para hacerlo.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
VENTANA DE FOTO: You are right. I have lots of homework to do in the garden. And I do hope to get back to it soon, but not this week.
DeleteHearty blooms and gorgeous balloons, love the colors of the parrots!
ReplyDeletee: The parrot blooms are great aren't they?
DeleteGorgeous. I've always wanted to see a hot air balloon display.
ReplyDeleteMarty: If you get the chance, do it.
DeleteI'm always thankful for the stalwarts in my garden that bloom without any help from me, because I haven't had the oomph to pay nearly the attention to them that I should. I'm glad you have those as well. I love the recap of the balloons through the years! They are truly works of art of the very large kind. I especially like the owl and the other colourful bird, which I'm not sure I can identify - it looks a bit like a hummingbird but very colourful compared to the ones I have seen. Thank you for the "splashes of colour and joy" - we are still in the "grey and brown" season here!
ReplyDeletejenny_o: Set and forget plants are wonderful. As are balloons. I think that parrot owes something to hummingbirds and something to imagination - which is fine by me.
DeleteThese hot balloons are so gorgeous
ReplyDeleteroentare: They are. I was so lucky to see them.
DeleteI guess I've been following you for awhile, because many of those balloons from almost a decade ago look familiar. Sending you my very best virtual hugs! I am always happy to see you here.
ReplyDeleteDJan: You have indeed been following me for a long time. Thank you.
DeleteThe balloon with all of the balloons is rather amazing.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: I think all of these balloons are amazing.
DeleteViewing pleasant things is most welcome...particularly these days...there is so much upset around the place. The flooded areas in south-west Queensland cover an area four times the size of the UK...and the devastated area is larger than Texas. It is heartbreaking...and that is putting it very mildly.
ReplyDeleteI'm still having problems with blogger, and until I get them fixed I won't be blogging. It's so frustrating.
Have a comfortable, relaxed and enjoyable week ahead, EC. Take good care...my cuddles to Batty and Odie. :)
Lee: You are right about the upset. World wide. What is blogger doing to you? I noticed that you had put a post up and withdrawn it.
DeleteI hope this week brings better news. To your State and the world.
I did put a new post up, EC...but promptly eliminated it because, once again, no paragraphs, making it a pain in the proverbial for people to read the post. :)
DeleteLee: There is an option for paragraphs when you are preparing your posts - or perhaps you could put a space where the paragraphs belong. Don't let blogger defeat you.
DeleteEven nine years ago the balloons were just as colourful and well designed as now. The 2018 inflating bird is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThey were brilliant weren't they? I have some older ones too that I may well post next week.
DeleteYou could open a balloon photo museum. Also a flower museum, a sky museum, a poster mus...............
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I am obsessional aren't I?
DeleteI love the balloons of the past and would definitely enjoy seeing more. Joanne made me smile with her idea.
ReplyDeleteRiver: Thank you. I will probably put up some more next week. They are definitely 'languishing' in my files.
DeleteYour joyful colors made me happy. You are in my heart.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: Thank you.
DeleteThanks for posting the older pictures! I loved seeing them.
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you too - watch this space.
DeleteThey are wonderful those ballons, good to see an older one or two as well. Your flowers look lovely there.
ReplyDeleteDo hope you are feeling much improved EC. Take care.
Margaret D: Busy and a tad frustrated. Thank you for you concern. I am glad you enjoyed the balloons.
DeleteHi EC - it's so good to see you again - those balloons are quite amazing ... I'm afraid I had to laugh at the 'pustule' one - which looks like it's pinned with smarties ... sorry! I do love the white agapanthus pushing its head through .. the garden will always flourish ... take care - with thoughts - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I thought of smarties when I saw that balloon too. The white agapanthus was a Naked Lady - we only have the blue/mauve agapanthus here.
DeleteNeglecting the garden here has become the norm! Every so often we have a fit and go out and weed like crazy and tidy up, but the older we get the less appeal the gardening has. If I were rich I would hire a gardener so that I could enjoy the beauty without the aching back!
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I will have to have a weed fest too. I do find ripping and tearing out the weeds surprisingly therapeutic. Later.
DeleteI love to see the balloons, they get so creative with some of them. The frog balloon looks like it might overtake the basket, lol, I'm sure it's an illusion, but that's still not the one I would choose if I were paying to go up for the day. :)
ReplyDeleteRosey: Some of those shapes look decidedly unbalanced don't they, but they fly (beautifully) anyway.
DeleteÉs fantàstic veure els globus a mesura que passen els anys, la imaginació i tots aquests colors.
ReplyDeleteMalgrat no tinguis temps pel teu jardí, sembla que ell va fent el seu camí. ;-)
Aferradetes, Sue.
sa lluna: Thank you. Some of the garden is making its way and some of it is decidedly overrun. Aren't the balloons a joy?
DeleteThose balloons incredible! I always enjoy those you share, EC. Hope your week is better than you anticipate.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Even years later I smile at those balloons.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteI find the garden is a very forgiving thing, even if it gets a bit neglected! You always have some wonderful flowers to share. The hot air balloons are such a joy to see.
I hope your week is manageable.
Take care of yourself.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Parts of the garden are looking a LOT neglected. Rotten couch grass is thriving. Soon. And you are right about the joy of the balloons.
DeleteThe balloon of many balloons is fabulous. You've had some really original ones over the years.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Aren't they great? And I did like the smarty balloon.
DeleteHello and many thanks for the lovely collection of photographs.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to see the balloons and the blooms in your garden.
Take care in the week ahead.
My good wishes.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. More balloons and possibly blooms next week.
DeleteFlowers and balloons uplift moods.
ReplyDelete: )
contempladoraocidental: They certainly lift my mood.
DeleteWhat wonderfully imaginative and colorful balloons - thank you! :-) Wishing you strength and resilience for your coming week(s).
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: Thank you. Strength and resilience will certainly be needed. Hooray for balloons.
DeleteAn owl-balloon -- and a balloon-balloon ;) And a frog and ... I love them all, but most the owl. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTake it easy on the gardening front, the weeds always win ;) and balloons and pretty things are more impåortatn for our soul.
Charlotte (MotherOwl): The weeds do indeed win - but I hope (next week or the week after) to challenge them. You are right that pretty things are good (and important) for our soul.
DeleteSo many great balloons. I used to see them in the air here but haven't in a long time.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: I hope you can see them again. Joy bringers always.
DeleteThe balloons are amazing!
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks: Aren't they great? Even years later...
DeleteYes they are. I enjoyed seeing your flowers too.
ReplyDeleteCloudia: Thank you. I always enjoy seeing the beauty and wisdom you share.
DeleteBeautiful photos. Stunning colours.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteGoodness. MY naked ladies never looked this good. Loved the balloon retrospective. So glad you shared these from past years.
ReplyDeleteBleubeard and Elizabeth: My pink naked ladies have been conspicuous by their absence this year. I do love the balloons. Each and every year.
DeleteIt’s wonderful to see how the Sunday Selections meme continues to evolve, with a sense of nostalgia and personal connection to its roots. The photos from the Balloon Spectacular bring a lovely burst of color and remind us of the fleeting beauty of these events. It's also heartening to see that, even in a neglected garden, nature persists and blooms. Sometimes, those little unexpected beauties are the most rewarding.
ReplyDeleteMELODY JACOB: I am a beauty addict and thankful to find it everywhere. Even on the dark days.
DeleteLovely to see all your shares. Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: It is my pleasure. Enjoy your time with your family.
DeleteThis is Gigi Hawaii. Those balloons are always spectacular. You are lucky to have such a festival in Australia. Nothing like that in Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteGigi Hawaii: It is a wonderful display isn't it? I look forward to it each and every year.
DeleteThe balloons are wonderful - I wouldn't mind seeing a few more. The creativity seems to be unlimited. Do they fly just as well as regular balloons or is it more complicated?
ReplyDeleteI have been negelcting my garden as well. Not being at home for 4 and then again 2 weeks certainly didn't help. Then it was raining so much that I couldn't do anything. Now I'm trying to catch up and simply had to decide to just let some things go and do them later. It's a rather wild garden anyway...
Carola Bartz: I will show some more balloons next week. They do seem to fly well though many of the shapes don't seem to be aerodynamically sound.
DeleteThe couch grass (grrr) has invaded a lot of beds here and is trying to take over. Ours is a wild garden too, but I do like so have some say about what dominates.
oh wow. Those hot air balloons are amazing. I've never even heard of a hot air balloon display. That frog one is crazy!
ReplyDeleteLiam Ryan: Thank you. They are incredible aren't they - and quite a sight as they traverse the city.
DeleteThose balloons are so creative. Some of the best I've seen.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a day filled with wonder and free of pain.
Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: There are some good ones aren't there? As there is each year. Thank you for those wishes. I am hoping.
DeleteI love those balloons particularly the frogs. I hope your week is going well.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: I love them too.
DeleteBeautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteCindi: Aren't they? I look at them and smile.
DeleteWell they put a smile on my face, especially that frog - absolutely lovely, thank you
ReplyDeleteKim: I am glad to hear it.
DeleteYou have the most fun pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: My city has some wonderful events.
DeleteI love the balloon balloon. :) So colorful. And that frog! Adorable. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteStephanie Fairday's Blog: I love them all. And there are more this week - and more to come yet.
