Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.
Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks),
and I have accepted the mantle. River may not join us this week,
depending on how her eye is adapting to the cataract surgery she had on
Thursday. If she doesn't she will be missed.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I
usually run with a theme. I am very grateful to live in a place that has four distinct seasons. And autumn is starting to show its glory (aboreal fireworks). So on Anzac Day I went for a walk through the neighbourhood. Anzac (Australian and New Zealand Army Corp) is a National day of remembrance and first landing of the Anzacs at Gallipoli. It now is a national day of remembrance in Australia, New Zealand and
Tonga that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who
served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and
"the contribution and suffering of all those who have served".
And then to my autumnal walk - with some late lingering summer beauty and some promises of things to come in spring.
The red on the top of the photinia hedge is not autumn colour but new growth.
Finishing with a pot of spring bulbs - coming up months too early.
We live in a beautiful world. I hope you find beauty too, this and every week.
I enjoy seeing your change in seasons opposed to ours. It is almost summer here now. Except for the currently blooming iris, all the spring blooms have come and gone.
ReplyDeleteAnne in the kitchen: It is good to watch the changing seasons world wide isn't it?
Deletethecontemplativecat here Seeing autumn is a pleasure. We head into hot summer and you move onto a winter.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: I much prefer our coming weather to yours.
DeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeletee: I think so too.
DeleteIt always amazes me that you are busy moving into winter as we emerge from it and enjoy all our late spring sights. It truly is a beautiful world, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteDJan: I don't have any problem with our opposing seasons and love to see them. And yes, the world is beautiful (despite the ugliness it also contains).
DeleteOh my gosh, Sue. I love your Autumnal walk. You post such a fun range of goodies. Hey, did I tell you yet, that I did the frozen bubble on our last really, really, really cold day? It wasn't cold enough to totally freeze, though it was enough to get a taste. Crazy fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: Freezing bubbles is amazing fun. We were too warm last year but I have hopes for this year. And love autumn.
DeleteLaura Eno - Beautiful photos as always. I wish I could get a handle on my own yard so I could enjoy it as much as I enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteHoping the week will be kind to you, my sister across the seas. Sending healing hugs your way.
Laura Eno: I wish I could get on top of my garden too. Shortly (before it warms up) I will go out and do some more. Huge hugs and much love.
DeleteGreat photos, wish you happy sunday.
ReplyDeletesnobe casamang: Thank you.
Deletesnobe casamang: Your site wants me to update my browser so I am unable to read or comment.
DeleteLovely colours! I'm glad you'll be easing out of the hot temperatures that make you suffer. I like the "Lest we forget" poppy sculpture, too!
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: They are lovely colours aren't they? We are still having days that are too warm for me, but it is finally cooling down. I liked that low key celebration of Anzac Day too.
DeleteYour autumn walk sounds beautiful, and it's touching that you tied it to Anzac Day, a powerful day of remembrance for so many.
ReplyDeleteroentare: It was beautiful. Anzac Day still does have meaning but I do with the politicians didn't insist on being involved.
DeleteBeautiful shots. Your Anzac Day is our Veteran's Day. And another blogger (Al) just covered how other countries also honor those who served.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: Thank you.
DeleteIt doesn't seem possible that Sunday has come round again! The weeks do seem to pass by quickly.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy seeing the wonderful Autumn colours in your photographs.
Enjoy the coming new week - it will soon be May!
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: The weeks are flying by aren't they? You enjoy your coming week too.
DeleteI like all the colorful trees and nature. It's always nice to see the changes in seasons.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa: I like to see the changes in the seasons too.
DeleteThey are lovely autumnal photos, with your autumn being a week or so ahead of that of my city.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: You are often ahead of us - I wonder what has changed this year?
DeleteI LOVE the giant red poppies! I also love the brilliant red-golds and the contrasting red/yellow/green shots.
ReplyDeleteRiver: The Anzac poppies are great aren't they? They were in a shopping centre in town.
DeleteIt always seems strange to me that we have Spring and you have Autumn!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me!
Your shots are fantastic with these beautiful Autumn colors!! Thank you very much E.C.
Katerinas Blog: We are both in lovely times of the year. I do like being able to share beauty.
DeleteI think I like autumn better than spring. The colors are phenomenal. Your gorgeous photos reminded me how beautiful autumn really is!
ReplyDeleteBleubeard and Elizabeth: I really like them both - and because of the internet can enjoy them both at the same time.
DeleteThanks for taking us on your autumn walk. Beautiful colours of the leaves and the flowers are always good to see EC. Hope you are doing ok.
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: I am happy to take people walking with me. I am okish. How about you?
DeleteHi EC - the colours are so lovely and really help cheers us. Those poppies 'Lest We Forget' are rather magnificent. VE Day is coming up here (next week) ... at the moment I'm loving the Horse Chestnut tree which bounds out of its winter hibernation giving us white candles ... that's what I see from three storey's up. Happy days - in so many ways ... love your colours - cheers and have a good week - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I love the idea of your white candles from the horse chestnut tree. Did you get answers from your doctor's appointment last week? You have a great week too.
DeleteFall and spring are the best. Some of our trees are blossoming, but most are done. The deciduous trees are all showing off their new leaves which are lighter in color than they will be in another month. I'm glad you got out and about.
ReplyDeleteBill: Spring growth is a particular shade of green isn't it? I always like to see our willows particularly come into leaf.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteIt is so important to remember the many sacrifices made to give us the chance to live in peace. It is sad that some leaders have completely forgotten this. Your autumn colours are really beautiful. Nature can be a great source of joy and inspiration.
Have a colour-filled week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Nature IS a source of joy and inspiration to me, as I know it is to you. Our politicians make too much mileage out of remembrance days I think. Sacrifices that they have never experienced.
DeleteIt all looks very autumnal, Sue, and I know that you appreciate cooler weather, with winter still to come. Say hello to my Suplhur-crested Angels, please!
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I often say hello to the Sulphur-Crested vandals for you. I am appreciating the mostly cooler weather - and also looking forward to winter.
DeleteEls colors de la natura són preciosos en totes les estacions, potser més en primavera, però no m'estranya perquè sortim de l'hivern i volem veure més color. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAferradetes, Sue.
sa lluna: Much as I like Spring I am also very fond of Autumn. Winter has its charm too.
DeleteI've heard of ANZAC day. Great photos.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
ANZAC day was a military disaster. Thank you re the photos.
DeleteYour photos are so colourful, love the flowers and the foliage. I always mark ANZAC day on my calendar, important to many people.
ReplyDeleteShammickite: There is a LOT of colour about at the moment. Which I love.
DeleteSo much colour !!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful and enjoyable week.
contempladoraocidental: I often don't realise just how much colour there is until I take my camera in hand...
DeleteI'm happy you included those "bottle brush-flowers". They are such a treat.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): The bees were loving the bottle brush too.
DeleteYour autumn colour is glorious! Continued enjoyment, EC.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Isn't it just? I do love this time of the year. I hope you are going on more and more picnics.
DeleteYes, those flowers and pictures are really pretty.
ReplyDeleteMarie Kirkland: I think I live in a v pretty area.
DeleteBeautiful flowers! We may get a warm day (just one) next week. Even though just one, am looking forward to it and maybe weather folks are wrong and it will be more than one. What happened to Australian troops in Gallipoli was so tragic. They were so brave.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Gallipoli was a military disaster and sadly I don't think the troops had much choice about it.
DeleteI hope you get more than one warm day. The weather boffins here are often strangers to the truth.
Sehr schöne Bilder von den Farben im Herbst.
ReplyDeleteGruß
Noke
Noke: It is a beautiful time of year. Enjoy your spring.
DeleteMientras contemplo tus bellas fotos otoñales, aquí disfrutamos de la primavera.
ReplyDeleteBuenas Noches.
Miradas desde mi lente: I hope you are enjoying your Spring as much as I am loving Autumn.
DeleteLovely fall photos.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: I think it is a lovely time of year.
DeleteYou certainly do have a lot of beautiful autumn color, thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: I am very happy to share beauty.
DeleteLest we forget!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos dear pal! Aloha
DeleteCloudia: Thank you so much. On both counts.
DeleteLest we forget indeed. The poppy is my favourite flower. My father was a veteran and he died in 1984 at the age of 64. Absolutely gorgeous photos.
ReplyDeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair: My father was also a veteran, though he never made anything of it.
DeleteMy father was a very kind, gentle and humble man and never talked about it.
DeleteLinda's Relaxing Lair: My father had a couple of funny stories about the war that he would share (vultures eating from their dinner plates) but the lesson he taught was that there are no winners in war. None. There are losers and bigger losers.
DeleteFor sure.
DeleteBeautiful - a riot of colours.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: A riot, with more and different colours emerging each day.
DeleteWe call ours "Veterans Day" or "Memorial Day." It's good to honor the dead. I am glad you are mobile. I love seeing those colorful trees.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: I keep moving so I can. It isn't easy but is essential.
DeleteThe colours are lovely to see; I especially love that very red maple leaf (Japanese maple?). I'm glad we have four seasons here, too. There is always something to look forward to, or to be glad it's over with for another year (heat & humidity, I'm looking at you). Take care, dear friend. Thank you for the beauty. xx
ReplyDeletejenny_o: That very red leaf was from a liquid amber - known in the US as a sweet gum. It also comes in yellow and orange. As you know I am a beauty addict. And hooray for less heat and humidity. Much love dear friend.
DeleteOh dear, I was far off the mark! Regardless, it is gorgeous. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet :)
Deletejenny_o: Our maples at least are slow to change. I will try and capture some of their beauty in the coming weeks.
DeleteSuch a lovely way to honor both the beauty of autumn and the spirit of remembrance — your walk sounds peaceful and full of meaning. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteMELODY JACOB: It was a peaceful walk. There were few other people about and mostly we just nodded and smiled.
DeleteThose are wonderful autumn colors - it is such a beautiful season! But why is there new growth on the photinia in the fall? Mine only shows new growth in spring with its stunning red leaves. I hope that the beauty of fall will linger for a while and you can enjoy it for much longer.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: I have no idea why the photinia has some new growth. Perhaps the very little bit of rain we had after a dry summer has something to do with it. It tones in beautifully with the autumn hues though. I hope that the colour will last for a while yet, but fear that it will be over quickly.
DeleteEC, Absolutely glorious. Thanks for letting us tag along. And those giant poppies: a wonderful tribute.
ReplyDeleteHope your day is filled with good health, cool breezes and happiness. Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: I really liked those poppies too. They were in a shopping centre but decidedly non commercial. Thank you for your wonderful wishes too.
DeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteHugs
aussie aNNie: My city does autumn well.
DeleteLove the flowers and all the colors of autumn.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: Thank you. I do too.
DeleteAlways remembered and never forgotten. A beautiful display of the poppies and your flowers, trees and plants are ever beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Welcome back - and thank you.
